Tensions persist over disputed Eritrea-Ethiopia border

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia:
Isayas Gabriel was there as tens of thousands of fellow soldiers were cut down during Ethiopia's last war with Eritrea, a 2 1/2 year bloodbath over a seemingly insignificant border town called Badme.

Seven years after the war's official end, he is watching as the countries appear to be gearing up for Round 2.

An international commission charged with marking out the border essentially threw up its hands recently and ended its work with no formal demarcation, evidence of how stubbornly both sides have resisted mediation. The Brussels-based International Crisis Group said last month that the threat of war is "very real," and "just weeks away." An estimated 225,000 troops face off across a tense buffer zone.

Isayas (the Ethiopian soldier quoted in the article) and Abdi are wrong. Both think the war will bring down the other side. I wanna tell them that if the war starts its' end can not be predicted. The only thing that can be predicted is the down fall of TPLF and EPLF. That certainly is no victory to the PLFs. But it will be a victory to the two peoples, Eritreans and Ethiopian alike.

War seems unlikely, If Eritrea had the military might it could launch an attack to take the land which was given to it by the border commission. The key town of Badime is still in the hands of Ethiopia. Asmara could start the war, the only problem they have now is clear. They just don have the military power to deal with Ethiopia. They seemed to have lernt a lesson from the past war. Now they know it clearly, another war..thats it. Asmara regime will be ousted and that will be Ethiopia's aim. Those of you who doubt in the military might and leadership of the EPRDF could continue to daydream. The CUD may expect Shaebiya to come to Addis Ababa and hand them power, but its not going to happen. Its the reverse, Shaebiya will be ousted for good. Shaebiya is now engaged in a cold war like propaganda game. Its accusing Ethiopia of making preparation to invade Eritrea. This is rubbish, Shaebiya is using the situation to collect money from the dispora in the name of "Hagerawi Mekete" national defence.

"Repeat a lie a million times it might end up to pass for the truth" This is the game of many media outlets.

There is no disputed border between the two countries. There is a legal settlement which neither country can escape from. The decision is 'Final and binding' we both signed to it. Now it is true that it is not demarcated using pillars, but not only is it deleneated but there are also coordinates for the pillars, when Ethiopia will stop its obstructionism.

As for war, we Eritreans are fed-up of war we have never advocated it nor seeked it. However we now from history that the only way to win peace is to be ready for war. And I think no Ethiopian who knows his/her history will accuse us of cowardice. We never give up our right to peaceful existence and we will exert it at any cost. If Ethiopian leaders will not fathom that History will keep repeating itself.

Peace.
Tesfa.

Meles knows he can not fight with Eritrea, he knows what happened in last war. Eritrean army are preparing to kick the Tigray Weyane a**s within several days, even don't need to much prepare for minorities gangster. It is ready 60,000 Eritrean army for 200,000 Weyane army. Also if the war start the main goal will be to remove the Tigray region from the Eritrean border and bring Gonder or Gojam to be neighbor of Eritrea.

No more blood bathing between these two close cousins. Please stop it!!

Please let us all say, if at we have to fight, we fight only with poverty, nobody else is our enemy.

Comment from: Woyane’s nightmare, [Visitor]

Ethiopia does not need to get into war with anybody. If this government cannot manage to bring peace and is only interested in war with neighbors it should leave the power to intelligent people who can bring peace and prosperity.

If some insisted they want war; they should enlist themselves in the military to go and dye in fighting with Eritrea.
But don’t force those who do not believe in the war to go and dye for Woyane.

War with Eritrea is only Woyane’s issue because of its grudges. Shabia, Issays or Eritrea is no longer Ethiopia’s problems. We have no grudges to grind.

Important REMARKS:

Recently I have been noticing nazret.com to block comments that have no indecency but are against Meles or the government. I found even most of the news to be not worthy.
In my view it has become the roaming field for those ignorant TPLF and Woyane supporters.

This will be my last comment to post because I reject the notion of being dictated by this site and I am moving to other sites where there is more true and worthy news with a leveled field for all kinds of comments. Like, ethioforum.org, ethiomedia.com, abugida.com and so on.

We have enough with Woyane’s dictatorships and I do not need this kind of backwardness.

as far as the wor goes ethiopoia will not go to wor unless the shaiby invade our country. meles to smart he knows shabia is doing a absolutly good job distroying eritrea. for the past 10 years shaibia has taken eritrean youth into slavery in the name of national service. they country has turned into one big prison. no one ethopian leader has done what shaibia is doing to eritreans. now knowing this why would meles go to wor with eritrea? he should just sit back and watch shaibi totaly distroy eritrea.

THERE IS NO NEED TO GO TO WOR SHAIBIA IS DOING A REMARKABLE JOB.

There is only one truth that no one understood. The Algers peace talk and deal is not binding as it was signed by two Eritreans. Ethiopias' interest was not represented. The real peace deal and legally binding agreement will come true only when true and independent Ethiopian represemntatives are involved. this will come after the all inclusive government of Ethiopia is established. Until then, I am afraid The Eritreans have to petient and waite. That is if poverty does not finish them one by one. I am praying for you that the queue for sugare is eased.

Peace

'That is if poverty does not finish them one by one.' That was so a poor judgment from you. But it does not matter what your trash talk said. There is no poverty in Eritrea but in Ethiopia. Get the news what happened in Eritrea today. They got something that make them so rich. After 2 or 3 years later I guarantee you, you will come to Eritrea for looking job because nothing to work in Ethioipia unless you will spend all your time in 'chat bet' ha ha.... By the way if you are Tigrayean they don't hire you! They don't like Tigray people but they love Ethiopians!

When I see an article that is of importance to both nations, I read the comments posted here, the more I read, the more disgusted I become. It is good to be patriotic and come to the defense of your country, but the majority of these posting are what you expect from the minds of children, "my country is better than yours...no mine is..mine is stronger..no mine is..."If this type of mentality is what both nations have to offer,we've got some major problems in our hands.

One more thing:as I write this comments, In Mogadishu, Tigray hiding places are being shelled heavily resulting many deaths.

"Madaafiic xoogan si ba'an loogu garaacayo Xarunta W/Baastada"
roughly this says, the Basta making factory[a hiding place for Woyanne cowards] is being shelled heavilly.

I pray that war will not break out, I pray for a miracle. I hope that both leaders or at least one of them will come to his senses and be ready to give in- in the name of peace.

But if war does break out, this is my predication:

We all know America is on the side of Ethiopia. That is a fact that the Eritreans have to accept.

Yes, Eritrea defeated Derg even with America and Soviet Union's help... Over a 30 year period, determination paid off.

But to the Eritreans, I say this is a border war and Eritrea does not stand a chance. You have to contend with Ethiopia, Africa's largest Army and help from the US. Just as they helped Meles invade Somalia.

To the Ethiopians, I say invasion will be "easy" and I put easy in quotation becuase thousands of Ethiopians will surely perish. However, we have all learned by now that invasion and occupation are two different realities.

Look at Iraq and look at Somalia.

I know that the sober people in this medium understand my point.

For the hard headed people, I ask: what kind of Ethiopia, Somalia, and Eritrea are we going to have LONG after Meles leaves office?????

May GOD help us and save us all

Daniel Tekle

I believe TPLF sacrificed one big thing; accepted the independence of Eritreans and cooperated with them to achieve it. If this was for the purpose of bringing a permanent peace to the region, now, it is the Eritreans turn to understand the problem of Ethiopians. They should understand the questions and main issues of Ethiopians. If not, we are going to have a series of wars which will go to next generations. We are not fighting for the border; we are fighting because of unsolved issues. Please read the book by Dr. Tesfatsion Medhanie, he suggests some important solutions. We need people like him from the other side.

No one in the world has suffered so much by wars like the Eritrean people, and this is why Eritrea never goes for war even it has many reasons and rights to do it. Ethiopia has occupied many Eritrean territories and Eritrea is showing maximum restraint even it has full capacity to regain its territories. and also because Eritrea never believes that war and arms could make a lasting solution. And this is why Eritreas army is set only for defence and not attacking. Hence, Eritrea will not attack, however, Eritrea have full capacity to defend itself from what so eery comes. Obviusly, the master of Weyane, the Americans will come to help Weyane, but I sassure that it will not change any thing. Eritrea can defend its self from any invasion.

When are you Ethiopians going to learn that Eritrea is still better than Ethiopia after all the destruction bought on us by successive Ethiopian leaders?

GO and read the latest Human Development report from the UN. Eritrea is 13 countries ahead of Ethiopia.

Please come to your senses and discover that your real enemy is your poverty, not Eritrea, Somalia or Oromia. And please blame it on your Western-boot-licking leaders.

As people of Horn Africa,(the Ethiopians,Somalians,Eritrea's and the Sudan's)is there away that we could live in peace and stable neighbors?

Is there way that we could understand each other and cooperate, solve our disputed borders to avoid any conflicts and bloody wars?

Is there way that we can sustain stability of the region?

Is there way that we could start to develop our nations and benefit the fertile unpolluted lands and soil as well as undiscovered natural resources beneath the rocks and plates of each country, and make to prosper the poor East Africans PPL.

OR should be stupid PPL forever?
Which is not the wright option.

For the Eritreans in here, my advice to you pray for Meles, he is the only thing standing between you and the wrath of the Ethiopian people. Your thirty years lies will be put to rest in a day. What you do not understand is the past sixteen years of occupation and slavery has totally transformed the Ethiopian people. It will not be a useless militia collected from the market place like Derrgue's or an Eritrean controlled ethnic militia like 1998-2000, that you will face in the future. I repeat pray for Meles, and since he is mortal like all humans he will not be there forever. Gena ye Hamassien eyen be kuna yeseferal. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, Ethiopia, the nation that defeated European colonialists, will not be defeated by the colony Eritrea. I wish eritreans said this when they got their independency in 1992. The only thing they did was, help the TPLF regime and kill Ethiopians. Then what followed was the desire to become an African Jupan or sSingapoor at the expence of Ethiopians. Just go back and read what was written by your people. It is too late to think of peaceful horn of Africa now. There must be truth and reconcilliation before we think of common interest.
