Ethiopia says 75 Somali rebels killed in Mogadishu
ADDIS ABABA (AFP) — Joint Ethiopian and Somali forces have killed 75 insurgents in the outskirts of the Somali capital Mogadishu, the Ethiopian information ministry said on Friday.
A unit of the joint force patrolling in northwestern Mogadishu, near Arafat neighbourhood, clashed with a group of 100 rebels, known as Shabab, on Thursday, it said in a statement.
"In subsequent exchanges of fire, 75 Shabab were killed and four captured," the statement said, adding that "a number of Shabab managed to escape. Ethiopian casualties were minimal".
The joint force captured five vehicles, including two trucks mounted with machineguns, and a third such truck was destroyed.
