Ethiopia cracks open airwaves to commercial radio
Meaza Birru has started the country's first private station.
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - By most accounts, Meaza Birru is patient. Not easily daunted, she waited eight years to have a commercial radio station – the first in Ethiopia

This is good news. private media will provide a variety of ideas in the country. It will be better to the ethiopian people to listen to radio other than the government run and the diaspora radio who doesn’t have any idea what is going on inside the country. I hope the new radio stations will provide a fair and non bias radio.
God bless Ethiopia.
Slowly but surely Ethiopia is going forward. Now, what we need to do is that protect and guard these progress by any cost.
I read in other website that Ethiopia will export electric power to Kenya, Djibuti and Sudan starting 2009. Sorry, Eritrea can’t afford to buy anything from any country. They can use their “Gura” as power. I am still waiting for to hear ” Let’s Unite With Ethiopia Party” from Eritreans.
God Bless Ethiopia!

Deder, what are you talking boy? Ain’t tigray part of Ethiopia and the people there are Ethiopians? Those soldiers you see in the pictures are Ethiopians regardless of where and which part of the country they are from. Give it a break man and grow up. Beside how could you tell the difference amongst Ethiopians? Someone said Guto Ras here, it must be you!
This is great… Now, we need more TV stations in ETHIOPIA.
Curtailing press freedom is the main weapon by which dictatorial governments try to hide their dirty job. Haile Selassie and the Derge did the same, and TPLF/woyane is simply saying business as usual.
In democratically governed countries, opposition parties and the free press are first of all the means by which government excesses are checked and brought under control and secondly it gives the people the right to choose between differing political views. Dictators on the other hand want to rule a blind and deaf and puppet nation by controlling what it should know and should not know.
Sustaining power by all means is the main business of dictatorial governments. Every thing said and written against their misrule is treason against the state, because they believe in absolute authoritarian rule. They are the state and state belongs to them.
When we were children we were taught to say “let our emperor rule for an other thousand years”. The Derge came to rule for a hundred years and TPLF/woyane hopes to do the same.
Our enlightened rulers want to lead by the hand those whom they call the blind masses, which of course includes all those who are not loyal supporters of their political organization. What an irony. Why do dictators talk of democracy when they are still in the jungle and forget even the word when they enter the palace? The truth is, they are the other side of the same coin that ruled the country before them. Suppressing the feeling of the people will only create a pressure that will explode in their faces in the future.
Dictators are afraid of mass enlightenment and scrutiny in the light of the day, because they are not true to their people and they have always some dirty thing to hide. Who introduced ethnic politics, and who wants to use it as an excuse to stamp on press freedom? The same people, the same government.
If the TPLF/woyane government believes that it can control for ever the Ethiopian people by closing its eyes and its noses, thus by not allowing it to see the reality and breath the air of true freedom, and is satisfied with what they can feed the people through the mouth, they must know that they are making a very big mistake. Our people are not animals that live only on their stomach but they also have feelings and aspirations. That is why they want economic development, democracy, freedom and justice, all at the same time, today, not tomorrow.
The government should first of all free itself from its fear of the people and then should let our citizens free; to be able to think, write, work and assemble freely! Ethiopians really do not care who rules them as long as they are justly ruled!
IT LOOKS LIKE MELESE SAING ‘ PLEASE PLESE
USA PLEASE BRITISH ..DON’T ASK ME TO GIVE
THE LEADER SHIP TO TO THE ETHIOPIAN PEOPLE
I DO ANY THING FOR U !!PLEASE ..PLAASE
This is good to start. Next time may be private T.V. Indeed good news too. Yeha
I dont think she works freely and without woyane touch.
She might be a cover for woyane like Meto aleka girma who falsely represent the largest ethnic group in ethiopia.
Woyane is very alergic for independent bodies and want to control in ethiopia and now in east africa.
it is show media to international community to say that there are free media in ethiopia like the so called opposition parties.
Stop writing your nightmare!!! This is a good news to Ethiopia and hope next time we also see the private TV!! Believe me!!!
Ethiopian nations and nationalities including most Amhara’s know that CUD stands and fights to bring
Amhara domination. You are dreaming. The past is a dream for you and a like. You and CUD is the remnant of the past living your life. Ask your self why is CUD does not gain grace root support among non-Amharas? The answer is, you said it “if you are amhara one day you will be cud, then put the cell if an oromo olf etc… jail. go on please". Should not you see how joyful it was when Amhara EDRDF celebrated their 25th year party inception and struggle with other invited nations and nationalities in Baher Dar city not
as a dominant but equal to others?
I know you and CUD believe that the present government is a “minority". For 77% Ethiopians, even excluding my fellow Amharas who accepted nations and nationalities equality, it is a majority rule. There are more development in Ethiopia, particularly in Amhara state, than when Ethiopia was ruled by Amharas alone for generation. Remember, equality before unit. Your ancestor’s policy unit by force today leads Ethiopia to be disintegrated.
Have a little mit-mita so you can burn you heart.
