The first step should be to invite back the Amiches ( Those Eritreans who has been kicked out from Ethiopia during the 1998-2000 war.)They are rejected by their government and we reject them and they are in the middel of nowhere.

We need to mix force with compation to win this war and give our problem a lasting solution. I saw some of them in Sudan refugee camps and they are still sing Ethiopian songs and they miss their beloved country Ethiopia. They knew that they made a big mistake by supporting the independence of Eritrea and Esayas. They have been caught by uforia of that time. I think they deserve a second chance.

I urge the Diaspora Eritreans to help their relatives back home by creating a party that advocate Unity with your Mother Land Ethiopia! Your misguided adventure of being indepedent fail miserabily.

I occasionally read the comments on your site. I sometimes take the liberty of giving my humble opinion as well.

This time, I read Eshetu Daba's article regarding the influx of "Eritrean" refugees
into Ethiopia proper.

I beleive we all experience a deep rooted identity crisis as people of the region having undergone all sorts of human misery as a result of natural and artificial disaster, colonial schemes, abaject poverty, political policies, cultural cynicism, inter-tribal hatred and contempt, etc. Now that the perceived enemy (who ever that may be) is gone, we are left to sort out our problems by ourselves. Our leaders need to be fast, visionary and big-thinkers incoporating the ideals of equitable justice, reonciliation and lasting peace.

First and foremost, we need to learn to accept each other as human beings, then as black (or white) Africans, persons created in the image of God. For geopolitical and all other all other reasons of socio-cultural, liguistic or econimic expediency, we are divided into clans, nations, nationalities and people grouppings. The time has now come for considering cris-cross connections for survival. The days of nationalism are long gone. Apparently, in this golobal and terestrial economy people need to compete (sometimes, globally) for their very survival. Now where does Africa stand, let alone Eritrea or Ethiopia? I think we should catch the momentum to assess our position in the trend of the modern world system. We have run out of time for playing the name calling and blaming game.

As for your article, Brother Daba, thank you: indeed, was a great historical document. That Eritreans fought for unity with the mother land, Ethiopia proper is a recent history. May be they should make as much effort to re-unite as they did to secede.

Receiving strangers and refugees is an Ethiopia/African and more importantly, biblical or religious virtue. We should keep our hearts and homes open for Eritreans or Ethiopians.
