I wonder if Egypt is sending her troops for a genuine contribution to AU's blue helmet army, or a bunch of spies to pass on the movement of UN's movement in Darfur Sudan, to the government of Sudan, decoded under the blue helmet.

mission in Rwanda, Burundi, Sieraleon, and now in Sudan. This is good for Darfur to get internationally experienced Ethiopian soldiers. Their peace keeping duties was much heralded in Liberia. Ethiopian troops were much liked as they were very disciplined and very helpful. Mogadishu 01, Jan. 07 (Sh.M.Network)-President Yoweri Museveni has recalled the UPDF contingent spokesman in Somalia, Capt. Paddy Ankunda, to replace Maj. Felix Kulayigye as the chief defence and army publicist.



Mr Museveni's directive through the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, at the weekend is also to affect 34 other senior UPDF officers that have been sent to various military academies in Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania and Kimaka in Jinja.



Outgoing defence spokesman, Maj. Kulayigye confirmed the developments in a telephone interview yesterday.



"I am leaving this Friday. Capt. Paddy Ankunda has been appointed to take charge while I am on the course," Maj. Kulayigye said.



Maj. Kulayigye will be going to Karen Defence Staff College in Kenya for one year military course. In Somalia, Capt. Ankunda, will be replaced by Capt. Barigye Bahoku, who has been the government spokesman during negotiations with Joseph Kony's Lords Resistance Army (LRA) in Juba

MOGADISHU, Somalia Dec 31 (Garowe Online) - A pregnant mother and her
five young children died in overnight Sunday clashes in the Somali
capital Mogadishu, the surviving father said today.

A seventh victim who was visiting the home also died when a mortar
slammed into the residence, according to the father, Madey Sufi Moallim.
Mr. Moallim said his family recently returned from Elasha Biyaha, a
stretch of land between Mogadishu and Afgoye where thousands of families
have fled to in recent months, living in makeshift refugee camps.

He said his wife was seven months pregnant, adding that he was not at
home when the deadly mortar hit.

Another mortar hit a house near Mr. Moallim's home in north Mogadishu,
witnesses said.

Two women, a mother and her daughter, were wounded in the second home.

Other mortars hit military installations in Mogadishu used by Ethiopian
troops and African Union peacekeepers, including the international
airport and the former ministry of defense building, residents said.

Muktar Robow "Abu Mansur," spokesman for the Al-Shabaab guerrillas
waging war on the government, claimed "victory" in last night's clashes.

He said the Al-Shabaab fighters wanted to inflict casualties on the AU
peacekeepers from Uganda and Burundi, saying that last night such an
attack "became possible."

Abu Mansur denied that any of the Al-Shabaab fighters were wounded in
Sunday night's attacks.

Capt. Paddy Ankunda, spokesman for the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM),
dismissed the other side's claim of victory.

He said a group of guerrillas in an armored truck attacked AU
peacekeepers at the KM4 junction in central Mogadishu.

"Our soldiers chased away the attackers.and also chased away another
group that was launching rockets from the distance," Capt. Andkunda said
on Monday.

There was no casualty report about the mortars that hit Ethiopian bases
in Mogadishu, including the former ministry of defense building.

Dahir "Dheere" Mohamed, an official at Medina Hospital, told Garowe
Online that 25 wounded civilians were admitted to the hospital since
Sunday night.

Somalia's government invited Ethiopian troops into the country a year
ago to help quell a powerful Islamist movement.

The Islamists have since regrouped and have waged a relentless series of
attacks, including assassinations, face-to-face combat, roadside
bombings and mortar attacks.
Mogadishu's Islamist fighters have demanded that all foreign troops, and
especially the Ethiopian army, to withdraw from Somalia or they will
continue their armed struggle.

It’s unknown why the troops with thrown and where they went to.







The withdrawal of these troops came as heavy clash between government military and police troops occurred in that parish on Tuesday which caused the death of two soldiers from the two sides and the wound of other one.







The clash is said to have began after the soldiers have disputed the extortion money they take from the civilian vehicles use in the districts roads.

Military engagements between the armed forces of the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) regime and Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) troops started on 13 December near the town of Galaalshe in the Fik zone and are ongoing.

TPLF regime casualties to date total 215 dead with 93 killed on the 13th and 14th December. An unconfirmed number of enemy troops have been wounded. 55 small arms have been collected from the enemy with four military transport vehicles destroyed. Ethiopian helicopters have been used to transport wounded troops out of the area during the past few days. Fighting continues near Galaalshe.

I'm proud of any soldier that fights to secure our country and eliminate those who threaten us. This particular peacekeeping troops which are to be sent to Sudan though makes me, not only, proud but I also feel sorry for them (for some obvious reasons).
