From: "Birtukan Mideksa,
Chairwoman of Unity for Democracy and Justice Party"
It gives me great pleasure and a sense of pride to intimate to you the successful conclusion of "Andnet" party's inaugural General Assembly on June 18, 2008. It is a truly exciting moment in our history!
As you are well aware of, the Ethiopian democratic process has undergone major set backs in the last three years. "Kinijit", now "Andnet", has also been subjected to some disruptions. As much as these setbacks and disruptions are regrettable, we should renew our commitment and continue from where we stopped fully aware that a united democratic Ethiopia is something we will and shall realize nomatter what the sacrifices might be. We should also count on the lessons of the past years as we chart our noble mission ahead.
Allow me to point out that the birth of "Andnet Party" is a historic and necessary phenomenon. It will herald the continuation of Kinijit's vision which inspired millions of our citizens during the 2005 election. It will provide the Ethiopian democratic movement a flag ship as it pursues Genuine Democracy, Human Right, Rule of Law, Good Governance and National Unity. "Andnet" will be the voice of the people as our country goes through a challenging time in its history facing ominous drought and looming war.
On behalf of the elected leaders of our party, I will give you my solemn pledge that we will work ever harder and ever wiser upholding the interest and core values of our great country and our great people. I pledge to you that our voices will never be silenced where human and democratic rights are trampled and where the national interest of our country is compromised. I will also pledge to you that "Andnet" will be the genuine embodiment of the desires and wishes of all Ethiopians.
Taking this opportunity, may I personally thank you for being part of the Ethiopian democratic movement and for all your moral and material support. I am confident your commitment and support will continue in the days to come as we work tirelessly to build a mother land where its people live in harmony as they pursue a life of peace and prosperity.
Sincerely,
Birtukan Mideksa, Chairwoman of UDJP
