Is it too late for Haile G-Sellassie to run the marathon? It would be great for Ato Gebreselassie to run the marathon and retire or relax and chase the money cicuits, instead in an interview he gave recently, he said that he will run the 2012 London Marathon. His judgement is a little off in my opinion. Track and field will undoubtedly change in coming years as Eritreans and other Ethiopian-haters in the region jump into the action. An ideal job for Haile G. would be to train young potential runners for the future.

Congradulations Ethiopia. Keni and Sileshi are simply the best. Haile is a legend but he should have given a chance for younger stars like Jaylan or Chercose this time around. We could have swept the medals if a younger athlete was included.

On another note, the Eritrean guy(what was his name?) deserves perhaps a zinc medal for pretending. In fact it is tragic to see his country continously descend into oblivion but they all pretend that they are doing great.

1st and 2nd...well done guys...I think it would been 1st 2nd and 3rd for Ethiopia If Gebremariam was in the 10k instead of Haile...Haile could have earn the gold in the marathon easly and should accept the fact he is no longer the big factor in the 5k and/or 10k. Haile Gebrselassie was unable to keep up with the Kenyans in the final lap. Printer friendly version Kenya's Kenenisa Bekele has defended his 10,000 meters title after setting a new Olympic record.

Bekele clocked 27:01.17 with team-mate Sileshi Sihine taking second, while Micah Kogo won bronze to complete the sweep for Kenya.

Sihine, who was second at the Athens Olympics and at the last two world championships, finished in 27:02.77, with Kogo clocking 27:04.11.

Two-time Olympic champion Haile Gebrselassie, 35, finished in sixth place.

After leading his rivals for most of the race, Bekele upped his pace in the last 400 metres to finish well clear.

Kogo said: It was very difficult for me. I pushed the race very hard but he [Bekele] broke away and I didn't respond."

Elsewhere in athletics, Cameroon's Francoise Mbango wins triple jump gold after jumping a new Olympic record of 15.39 metres.

Russia's Tatyana Lebedeva was second with 15.32m with Greece's Hrysopiyi Devetzi jumping 15.23m to take the bronze.

In my honest opinion, the Ethiopians did what they are best at, which is long distance running. If they lost it will be considered a huge loss, if they win it will not be any surprise to those who have followed the sport all along. "long distance is Ethiopias baby" if some one likes it or not. Short of the Ethiopians, that sport still will be won by other east Africans who are also known to be competitors. So, it was a great show for Keni, Haile and Sileshi. Specialy Kenenisa is amazingly excellent on that win.
My advice to those who try to compare apple with orange by simply trying to compare the Ethiopian runners against Eritreans are those who do not have self confidence on them selves. Celebrate for the accomplishement of your athlates, not the failure of the Eritreans. Always remember the Eritreans are new comers to such competition and if they are bitten by the super powers of the long distance there should not be big fuse about it. The Ethiopians are meant to beat anybody on this field not only Eritreans.

Congra to Ethiopia. These Ethiopians have shown that they are the dominant athletes of the world and they controlled the game and did it as they wished to do. They attempted a total sweep and Kenenisa was the manager I saw him reminding Haile at one point to take the lead and destroy the fake front runners at once and amazingly he did the job. Once the fake runners were taken out by Haile the real ones showed up that included Kenyans and other Africans. Sihne and Kenenisa were to take Haile with them to the finish line although Haile finally couldn't deliver his usual acceleration. He is getting older we should all admit that.
What else would the world want that the 10000 meters is once and for all and for ever the Ethiopians. Miruts, Haile, Kenenisa, Sihne, Derartu, Tirunesh, the list goes on and on. Imagine if there was no Kenenisa in the today's match, Sihne's performance was definite gold by big margin so Ethiopias confidence on this match was too high. In fact it seems that a lose on this one for Ethiopia was unacceptable with these lions.

For those having negative view on Haile's result and participation on the yesterday 10 k race should rerun the tape and watch the whole running before giving blind analysis by looking to the result list. Haile did marvelous work to crack down the Eritrean and Kenyans team work that were trying to take away our monopoly of 10 K for the last 16 years in Olympic and most big international tournaments. If you rerun the tape and watch in detail, you can see how Tadesse was upset by Haile Smart move and how The Eritreans also was trying to sandwich Bekele at the beginning of the race and also the Kenyans did their best team work too . Have not included a smart and skilled runner like Haile in our team the result might not be same as it was. His selection was not by having big name in Ethiopia Athletics but by the merit that he has scored in 2008 competition and he has the third best time of the world 10K race..

Where did these three runners/champions go and get the flags? Did you see and notice guys and gals? The flags were on the ground and there anyone who knows the meaning of a nations flag???

If not for Haile's contribution to the team and the Kenyan guy pulling that sneaky Eritrean by his hand, I beleive the Eritrean would have gotten in 2nd or 3rd place. As an X-long distance runner my self, I observed the race very closely and that tigre lead the crowed for most of the race and that was unprecedented on my view. If this rece will be held between our Kene and zeresina the guy can outlast kene by a far distance. Please, rerun the tape if you have one and observe the whole race. It is good to give credit to where it belongs. Regardless of his countrys or presidents wrong doing and hatred towards our country.
