Dibaba storms to Olympic double

Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba made it an Olympic double after winning the 5,000m on Friday in the Bird's Nest.

A week after winning the 10,000m, Dibaba sprinted to victory ahead of Turkey's Elvan Abeylegesse and defending champion Meseret Defar.

After a sluggish start with nobody willing to push the pace, Dibaba took the lead with two laps remaining to finish with a time of 15:41.40 secs.

It is the first time a female runner has won the 5,000m and 10,000m titles.

Dibaba wins 5,000, completes Olympic double

— Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia has won the 5,000 meters to complete an unprecedented women's Olympic distance double.

Dibaba, the world record-holder, won the 5,000-meter race in 15 minutes, 41.40 seconds on Friday night. It's her second gold of the Beijing Games after her triumph in the 10,000.

The 23-year-old Dibaba also won the 5,000-10,000 combination at the 2005 world championships but only chose to defend the 10,000 in Osaka last year.

Elvan Abeylegesse won the silver. She also finished second in the 10,000.

Ethiopian world champion Meseret Defar took bronze in the 5,000 in 15:44.12.

Tomorrow if we are gonna be lucky we will have atleast 1 gold and secure the 16th place expecting that Kenenisa will snatch the gold medal. I predict atleast one gold and if the the other two are strong enough we may still have the silver and bronte and even be 15th.. that wil bring us to be the 1st in africa.

God Gob our atleats!
