Ethiopia - Axum town residents award Meles Zenawi
ENA - Axum town residents awarded Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia recently for his remarkable contributions in the homecoming and re-erection of the Axum Obelisk after 68 years stay in Rome, Italy.
A relevant committee, which is established to coordinate the homecoming and re-installation ceremony of the obelisk, said on Sunday the town residents awarded the premier, other individuals, and organizations for their contributions for the same cause.
Prime Minister Meles awarded a gold medal and ‘Kaba’, a traditional wear, for his meticulous political and diplomatic leadership role played during the homecoming and re-installation process of the obelisk.
Meles, through the committee, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to town residents for their initiation to award parties that actively took part in the homecoming and re-erection of the obelisk, which is taken as an icon of ancient civilization.
Participants of the awarding ceremony, that included ministers, diplomatic corps, representatives of international agencies, and town dwellers, donated over 500,000 Birr in support of development endeavors in the town
