Eritrea - Isayas Afewerki World's 8th nastiest dictator
Eritrea's thuggish dictator Isyass Afeworki has been named the 8th worst dictator in the world, breaking his own record from last year. The 63 year old dictator has been in power since 1991.
In 1966, at 20 years old, Isayas Afewerki joined the Eritrean Liberation Front (or ELF, later renamed the Eritrean People's Liberation Front), an organization that's purpose was to establish Eritrea as an independent nation. Later, in 1987, Afewerki rose the ranks of the EPLF, assuming the role of secretary-general. When Eritrea finally achieved independence in 1993, he was elected president in the nation’s first national election. A proposed subsequent 1997 presidential election never occurred, and no national elections have taken place since he took office.
Several years after gaining independence, the somewhat stable relationship Eritrea once held with neighboring Ethiopia following their 30-year border dispute began to crumble, and a deadly conflict between the two nations erupted once again in 1998. After tens of thousands of casualties on both sides, the war finally ended on December 12, 2000, with the signing of the Algiers Agreement. Even today, Eritrea and Ethiopia struggle to maintain their tense, unstable relationship.
Afewerki maintains a ban on all privately owned media, making Eritrea one of the least press-friendly nations on the planet. Groups like the US-based Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters Without Borders have consistently ranked Eritrea as one of the top abusers of press freedom due to the poor treatment—a nd even imprisonment—of journalists.
Despite its ratification in 1997, Eritrea's constitution has yet to implemented. The government maintains that the delay in implementation is due to the ongoing border tensions with Ethiopia, but critics of Afewerki and his politics say that Eritrea's relationship with Ethiopia is a means by which to distract his people. More than ten years later, the National Assembly has yet to fully ratify the nation's constitution.
Afewerki announced in May 2008 that elections would be postponed for "three or four decades" or longer because they "polarize society." All forms of media are controlled by the government. At least 10 local journalists remain in prison since their arrests in 2001.
Meles Zenawi named 16th Worst Dictator in the world
oh yes, just because he did not bend over and take it like the chihuahua on heat Meles.
this shows clearly, the west is f@$d up. meles zenawi openly on broad day light killed more than 250 peaceful protesters for the unfair or rather lost election. he admitted, he was sorry for killing all this people on the record on bbc tv interview. for that he ranked number 16. issais afeworki number 8 for doing things not the west or a white mans way .
this is very funny meles must have bloody ass the white man keep fucking him dry.
He should have been named the number one primitive and illiterate dictator in the world. How can our sea port be in the hand of such animal, for heavensake. It is just a matter of time, his days are nummbered.
Dear President, You look good!
nati-werku, stop lying to yourself. isayas has served himself on a silver platter to the west but he was rejected. isayas being number 8 has nothing to do with meles. if meles is number 1 isayas still be number 9. the issue is why not isayas instead of wasting all eritreas meager resource to destroy ethiopia, can not concentrate on eritrea. what is the reason? why do you waste your time and energy on ethiopian secession fronts instead of building democracy for your own people????
is badme the execuse????
Why are we worried about isays whether he is number one or fifty what we should worry about is our own
problems and for those Eritreans leave as alone we don’t want you and get your own food and why don’t you eat your pasta and try to hung out in your numbered restaurants.you big losers.
Dictator? Yes, but to whom?
To Eritrean agents of the West, the Chalibis? UN Corporation? TO UNMEE? ICC? The AU? IGAD? Arab League? BBC? RSF? Amnesty? All are nothing but looters that would have no support from the defiant Eritreans.
I wish he were # 1, to the West and its kedami mercinaries.
Dictator because of postponing election? F–k with western brokered election. We knew democracy long before even Ethiopia learned the term, in the Forties.
Democracy? deron sideliluat bemeChagna Taluat!
To us democracy meant providing the basic needs of survival: Food on the table, clothes on our backs, and Shelter over our head. The rest is a matter of time, one steo after the other.
A dedicated leader who refused to be a Western agent, a determined leader who liberated his people and country from lion’s jaw and pigs, who day and night fights corruption to make his peoples’ needs and who never even killed a single human becomes “dictator # 8″ while an American mercinary who killed innocent university demonstrators against vote rigging agent, a mercinary banda who is ethnic cleansing Oromia, gambella, and Ogadenia, a mercinary banda who invaded sovereing nations for Whites’ cause to be # 16. The report shows its nature and who is behind it. F–k with imported democracy!
Democracy silu, democracy sinil, remember Ethiopians, during EPRP political fever?
It’s dead on arrival!
Eritrea will Never Kneel Down!
atleast he has not yet murderd morethan 250 innocent civilians on the independent street in asmara but he could have closed more than 250 innocent newspapers from the street.but unfortunatelly ,the neocolonialists democratic check-list doenst give any credit for the innocent people but their interest has much more weight.
i am not protecting dictators in principle but i wonder if there is a geniuen democratic barometer towards Africa and non of the western countries like china.
who cares? the ar-terans should fight him if they feel oppressed. it is none of our business.
Very Well said.
Indeed, I came to believe that almost every Eritrean measures his or her success when they see we Ethiopians fail. It is depressing but true. Obsession is a chronic disease.
Abet wez? Merkino new weyes yedeha genzeb belto new? Both are stupid dictators. Who cares whether is no 8 or 16 on list?
Isayas Afewrki is not dectetor..who said that ? He is killing innocent Eritreans let he do that ..they are the one who worshiped him as if was Jesus Chraist of Nazret..ther is nothing new.Eritreans has the legall and dimocratic right to seffer under his Kingdom.
AWTNA HAFASH !!
FURSH and Blash !

He is a good sheferd of the people with unique history and proud of Eritrea. He is a great leader. He is strugling against western hagomeny and monopoly from the biguning of his adulthood,we dont give a f**k for what aur enemy are saying. We keep on marching, while the old dogs are barking. Long live the first president of the state of Eritrea.Wedi afom wedi haras nebri the king of the Red sea.
I do beleive the president of the bastard state Isaias is the worest dictator the reason why he survived from this position is because the world knows very, very little what is going on inside the country.
Tiny & Dirt Poor R’Terra is not yet done …… The snooze round its neck must be further tightened AND it has to be strangulated to the bitter end until it submits to Great & Mighty Ethiopia!
Until Ethiopia re-trieves its own Sovereign Seaport with a full right access to international waters, the Accursed land of Fascist-Shabiya and its Soulless creatures will never get peace…….
To Fandiyaw “ZXAmiche": Didn’t Dry, Inhospitable and Resources-Poor R’Terra wretchedly begged and in fact gave a million times whore-like blow jobs to the American Prick so that you serve as the “right” mercinary in the fight against the fucken Arabs, Islamic Fundamentalists & Wild Somalis???? U can’t be trusted, you backstabbers and lunatic Ahiyoch …. Get it!
Ouch, what is going on right now regarding the EU aid money for your impoverished tannikka barren land: Didn’t you parrot the world about self-reliance and that you won’t accept any sort of hand-out at all???? Why campaigning to lay hands on these few hundred €s and incessantly lamenting about it when the EU showed you a frosty cold shoulder????
Ennannte Guddoch, Tebbay Tilloch
Atually ur daddy Esasss is pissed of cause he could not get any…he is like a biitch noone wants to sleep with as there are too many ARABS in his…taking free ride at the expense of you and your ppl…
The fact that you are here on our site is a sign of your similar fruitcake behaviour your daddy Esasss posses…sorry biitch no Arabs here…get the F out.
Long live PIA. Just keep doing the excellent job that we are witnessing everyday. Look at Gash Barka, South Region, East and West side of Eritrea etc… Nobody would have imagined this would be possible, but with you working tiresly we see everyday Eritrea shinning. Again whatever they say, you know how much your people loves you. Again thank you very much the Honarable Isaias Afeworki. President of Eritrea; Wodi Afom.
At least he is more honest then Meles. He clearly stated on Al-Jezeera interview that their will not be an election for a few decades. Done at least he is admiting that their is no democracy in Eritrea unlike Meles who preaches it but practices the opposite.
If you support Meles or Isyas you don’t love your country or freedom or you are some how directly benfiting from their leadership at the expense of the rest of us.
Eritreans need to start standing up for their rights and the implementation of the long awaited constitution, the creation of a democracy for the people by the people so they may have wise and accountable leaders who would not let the youth that is supposed to be the future of the nation, fall like dead leaves in the fall, over a personal brawl. Our future is federation if not outright unity but unfortunately we must get there separately because of the biggest hoax in our history, rebels who sought to exploit minimal differences fighting another rebel in their altar that is war. It seems that in Africa, the qualifications for office are extensive experience in manipulation, historical alteration, jailing journalists and opposition, limiting freedom of speech and communication, divide and conquer the population, disregard for the plight of a nation, derive authority from guns and ammunition, cook up numbers of growth and progression, sell it to addicts like IMF and The United Nations(literally)so they may continue to deny rights to the generation. The notorious deal of 93, supposed to secure peace and set us free but we are still on a killing spree, as if we forgot that we fell off the same tree. How did we get isayas and meles from the same land that gave us Abraham and Moges, Yohannes, Zerai Deres, and Sabbagadis. The night is darkest before dawn as the winter is coldest before spring.
