Team set to produce Ethiopian investment report for US magazine
An international team of journalists with World Investment News are currently in Ethiopia preparing a special economic report set to be published in the American magazine, US News & World Report.
This team intends to shed a new light on the economic realities of Ethiopia and, in doing so, help to create a positive image of the country.
The team's objective is to bring to the surface business and investment opportunities in the country with a wide representation from key sectors of the Ethiopian economy. The team also hopes to underline the actions taken by individual enterprises in support of the Ethiopian infrastructure development and other projects that are moving to put Ethiopia on the world map.
Stephanie Acri, Carina Barroca and Stanislas de Cabrol form a young and dynamic team brought to Ethiopia to help cover a new angle on investment opportunities in the world today, after the collapse of many of the world's financial markets and investment tools.
The team of business analysts has said that they are impressed by the wit and kindness of the Ethiopian people as well as by the development of the local infrastructure and economy in comparison with other African countries.
Ethiopia is fundamentally unstable and it is doomed to break-down along side ethnic or religion lines. The country has no natural resources to exploit and is dependent on very few commodity goods, such as coffee, hide & skins. In addition the country is land-locked (Ethiopians will give you example of Switzerland for that dis-advantage). The population is extremly poor, growth rapidly and and can’t even feed itself, very dependent on outsiders assistance year-after-year.
More importantly, the Ethiopian mind-sets is unfertile for economic growth and very suspecious of others good will and do not understand that the global-investment motives which is profit.
Investment should go where profit can be maximized but not Ethiopia. The country is sutable only for foreign aid so that the world do not feel guilty. Have your say and go attack me, call me names for stating the above rather than searching your soull and challenge my openion
I do not think so that this team will finally come up with good report interms of Ethiopian interest.
I personally do not like to see western team at my home land, Ethiopia.
The more the country opens businnes and investment opportunities with a wide representatio of key sectors for the country economy the better. The wit and kindness of the Ethiopians can bring some scam Investors and fraudesters as well. There should be some kind of screening. You invite investors and when they start investing unless they corrupt the the officials things you can not even reach half of your goal the cost will sky rocket it may cost more to bribe than to invest.I heard of friend who invest with friends to give education to people who paid thier tax for his education and wanted to pay back to his country and his people in Nazareth. The school got bigger he was sending books and materials collecting from Canadians now the school is controlled by few who are close to the oromia region adminstration and they quicked out the majority and robbed the school.
There is corruption,Bribe, red tape nepotism and so on.Investors should be aware of all this. How dare you invite investors and leave them to sharks to tear and kill them. The clishe each region handles its problems is fake and the government uses this for propaganda. If investment is needed and you invite investors first clean your mess of corrupted offcials and narrow minded employees who are scared of progress and change.Replace them with new blood otherwise it is the catch 22 the porpaganda is big the reality is none.It is not simple and easy to clean dirty work environment, but it has to be done to encourage investors. Those US reporters need to to be fair and square and should not only talk to the few who managed to beat the system because they have connections, but also to those who spent thier retirement money and curse the governments propaganda.Ther is a lot to be accomplished.God bless those who are fighting the corruption and do not gave up.
Do we really need desporas to surviv her in mother land of Ethiopia?? i don’t think so!! i wish all desporas can the pack they stuff and live and Addu Genet will be just fine!!
As they say, jealousy is like cancer it eats you from inside.
MR. Wedi Semon is going to get busy filling these ppl with lies that he is expert about.
Where the economy is controled by few Village Lords and the space of competition very narrow…nobody knows what magic formula is going to come out to make that country suitable for investment.
I will not attack you but I do disagree with your comments.
1)You need to separate the current government of Ethiopia and the country itself. The ethnic and religious issues you mention are exaggerated at best and are completely fuelled by the current administration. If they leave so will that mentality of every zer for his own.
2) Major cooperation like to do business poor countries, just for that reason. They can get cheap unregulated labour; they don’t have to worry about environmental regulations; their capital (in US dollars) is worth a lot more in developing countries; and in most cases the government will do anything to get their business.
3) Natural resources, I don’t even know what to say to this one. Maybe you are comparing Ethiopia to the countries with LARGE amount of natural resources (like DRC, Ghana, South Africa, etc.) but several exploitable natural resources exist in the country.
4) Your last comment about the country being a place where rich countries can dump aide and feel less guilt is just stupid. First of all there are several poor countries that get aide, Ethiopia isn’t the only one.
Overall, I sensed a tone in your comment which makes me think you personally don’ like Ethiopia in general because your points are not based in fact. In fact the current administration, for the last two decades, have made Ethiopia a perfect place for foreign investors to come and do what ever they want and make a lot of profit at the expense of the people. Ask China, Italy, Djibouti, United States, UK, etc. if Ethiopia isn’t a good place for them to invest. That is why we are considered their “allies” because our government will massacre each and every one of us if we get in the way of the money these foreigners give them.
ETHIOPIA HAS LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR INVESTING AS LONG AS YOU ARE NOT ETHIOPIAN!
damark you start by sayiing ethiopia is unstable and doomed to break apart along ethnic or religious lines and continued to say “the country has no natural resource and the people mindset unfertile for business.
this is an evil wish and gross misrepresentation of ethiopia and her peopl not an opinion thus no need to challenge.
.. but we will pray for you
