Ethiopia - Ministry launches salt iodization project

Ethiopia's Ministry of Health (MoH) today inaugurates salt iodization plant built in Afdera town in the Afar Regional State.
Ten iodizing machines have been installed in Afdera at a cost of 9.2 million Canadian dollars. According to MoH, 40,000 sq.m. of land has been acquired from the regional state for the construction of the iodization factory. The cost of the project was jointly covered by the governments of Ethiopia and Japan, UNICEF and Micronutirent Initiative. The plant has created employment opportunities for 24 youths organized under a cooperative.
