Serve the country diligently?

...Within a few years, every one of these graduates will leave the nation for the West!

That is just the way it is! And, it is very sad...

Wow so after 57 years in a country of over 70million AA University can only graduate 2000 students? Most can't speak a proper sentence in english even after 4 years education taught in english but they now have degrees? No wonder we are so backward and a danger to our selves 90% of them will now runaway to the west and become 4th class citizens living of benefits rather than work in ethiopia for 1800 birr a month and can you blame them?

I hope the quality of the education is ok too. The only way Ethiopia can get out of the misery she is in is by educating and have more a collage graduate…AAU losing the brighter instructors by mass people goes abroad to further their education but by far the majority not returning to their country…..
The addition thing I noticed in one of my many trips to Addis and visiting two of AAU campus with the help of one of my family member. I always wish to visit AAU since I did not get a chance to go to college back in Ethiopia….There was one thing I notice more than anything else and sadden me more than any other thing I saw “good and bad”. this particular thing that I noted after I met a student whose major was economics and I asked him to show me what text book he is using for his economics class, I could not believe my eye this guy text book published in 197 and the book practically look like used for century . I am not economist or act one, the last time I took economics is in 1994 when I was the 2nd year’s student and I took the class as social elective class… but I can tell that book shouldn’t be in the shelf of the library let alone using that book as a text book. The same thing I take a look from one of the student from 5 killo (engineering school) at least the engineering book was not bad. Right after I came back I fully participates with the book drive to AAU and we sent so many books to Ethiopia. Even if the some of the books did not get where we tried to sent it because of the higher education corrupt and stupid system some of the books ended up one of neighboring port ….

Anyhow all the graduate congratulation and wish you more success…

Is there a program in place to keep our university graduates in the country by providing them with jobs, or are they going to immigrate to western countries and do jobs below their training, with such a great loss to Ethiopia?
The drama of third world countries that spend a lot of money to educate their chidren and loose them to western countries because they end up jobless or feel insecure in their own land, is one of the main reason for the continued underdevelopment of countries like Ethiopia.

Send them to Ogden to drill oil so that they could create a job for themselves and be rich. If they stay in Addis their life will be messed up except a few fortunate. So, they have to learn the game "Drill baby drill" which is capitalism 101!!!

Let me tell you something. Non-Tigrayans have long stopped attending AAU because there is no added value education there. AAU is fit to educate only the mehayem TPLF members. The only proud person about AAU who is non-Ethiopian is you. When AAU used to be the center of education, your hero Meles couldn't handle it so he dropped out and run to the Tigray bush to become a blood-thursty shifta.

Despite the challenge that the graduates face in the future, it is really a positive thing for the country. I think the Meles regime is much better than the "Nugus Hailesilasie", who have slept for 50 yrs with doing nothing except proud of Ethiopia that we have fought for for many years. Being educated is an example of civilization. CONGRADULATIONS!!! for all students, who graduate from Addis Ababa University and Gonder.

Ethiopian leaders are killing their kids and the future of the country. Take the MEDREK manifesto, they include another tribal national language (Amharic and Oromo) Please get ride of all tribal languages from the national level and adapt English as the nations means of communication in the Federal Government level and let each ethnics enjoy their own language as their national language.

How can give four languages to master and become effective to understand the class courses written in English?

Since our education system is English why not adapt English language and save all the costs incurred to translate books from English to Oromo and Amharic? Ethiopians kids will be bombarded by Latin; a very difficult language to learn it to begin with. If the Oromo hates Geez because the Semitic people of Ethiopia using it, why should we the rest of Ethiopians bother to learn Latin?

No more Amharic, Oromo, Tigrigna in the national level but English as a common language for all of us to communicate and easy to learn it and will be beneficial to our kids to understand the course given in classes instead of memorizing to pass the exam with out understanding it.

Black Boy,

you said you did not get the chance to go to College in Ethiopia?

Yes, I did not because I left Ethiopia before I had a chance to join AAU. To be exact I left right after I took my final exam did not even received my final exam (if I am not mistake they call it ECLC)… by the way I always wish I was a student of AAU. That is why I ask my relative to take me and show me the camps…

I hope you are not trying to tell us that you finally….

I don’t know what you trying to say but to answer your question yes I went school here in the U.S. (to be exact I went school in Massachusetts) …. Both of my degrees are ME.. if you think my writing skill did not look like a college graduate, I admit writing was my worst enemy when I was in collage or even in my professional life…the good thing my job required more analytical based on number than writing such as literature… in addition to be truthful I was in the dean list most of my college life….

By the way I did not say anything that put down any one all I said and wrote what I saw in that college… just for FYI so many my family who comes before me went that college and I have great love for that school, currently 2 of my first and second cousins teach in that school…

comment to criticsofdictators and Damrak,

criticsofdictators - let me tell you something very important about you - wallahi u r the stupidest person ever visited this web. why shit your non-sense here. Endrias is Ethiopian intellectual we are all proud of. you are just washing some dishes and leaking ass of the white in west!! Idiot. Did your mother teach you some good manners or you became a refugee so early in your life and had no chance. you failed your parents terribly, ok? Go to school and rethink your life.

Demark, please liberate your head. You seem to be colonized by Tigreans in your head. Meles has ever been brilliant student and he didn't leave the university because of academic problem but because of his passion for politics. Addis Abeba university is and Ethiopia university and it is full of students from all over the country, I know that. Tigrean students are minority there. I know students are there from Afar too. What the hell are you saying? Don't be victim of poor thinking and prejudices.

I congratulate the new graduands and want my beloved country to prosper. Please guys lets us think positively and denounce negativists and people who talk, write, think, contribute money to divide our historic and proud nation that withstood all problems to stand and shine as a nation. We are a generation that will never allow fake politics and ethnic hate mongers to divide our great nation on lies.

Ethiopia - beautiful and proud nation - let us work and study hard wherever we are.
Your bro,
Afari Sifari

Does that bloody university still exist? A university that teaches management but it has never organized its work properly.O my God, How many campuses we had to run for registration spending all day( European universities take only 30 minits for registration), to deal with the laziest and the ruddest staff members....I went recently to the uni to get some info. One of the ruddest and laziest secretary is still working there. I knew here when I was a student. When I got in to her office, she gave me her long srew face. I never forget a bunch of arrogant instructors their main task was to bully, abuse and humliliate students. There have been substantial number of money-crazed instructors, they wouldn't appear at the university chasing part time tuition with private colleges. Some of them even copy previous years exams for this year as they have no time for preparing exams.
I took 42 courses for undergraduate degree. I can say, I forgot the name of most of the courses when I was a final year student. How redicoules it is to take biology, phylosophy, goegraphy, logic....and other courses that are almost the same in content but with different names as a business student. On top of this lazy and incompetent instructors, and few and outdated books. Now the thing is even worst as the university enterance requirement is relaxed and new generation low competence instructors joined.
So, do we expect competent professionals from this poor quality university? I don't think so.

Tefera,
What are you are talking? I have attended a couple of American Top universities and I am still proud of my AAU specially Techno. The education is competetive even with developed countries standard. I agree with you that that there are some areas that need improvement and there are some rude employees in registrar and some adminstration places. But lets not forget that this is not unique to AAU. If you go to post office, kebele,City Hall or any governmental office you will recieve the same retarded reception. We as a nation are weak in delivering service and demanding our rights generally.
I love my AAU my instructurs and the cupuses. Oh my goodness...after all all of that was for free...
Please stop whinning and be thankful.
