Ethiopia Supreme Court upholds verdict against Africa Jewelry owner

The Federal Supreme Court of Ethiopia, last week, upheld the High Court's verdict on Mekonnen G. Medhin, the owner and manager of Africa Jewelry who was found guilty for evading Value Added Tax (VAT).
In an operation that was carried out by the Revenue and Customs Authority (RCuA) to investigate several Jewelry Shops in the city for trading with or without VAT vouchers in April 2009, the manager and employees of the African Jewelry were detained. The well known African Jewelry has many branches in the city. They were found guilty by the Federal High Court bench for selling without VAT receipts.
