Today, November 5, 2010, WTOP, Washington, DC based news reported that the US attorney’s office for the District of Columbia has dropped the charges against the alleged killers of Ali Mohammed of Ethiopia. Initially, the charge was dropped from second degree murder to aggravated assault.
According to the news, today, the US attorney’s office in Washington, DC stated that all charges are dropped against the alleged killers for lack of prosecution. According to the news, the US State attorney’s office stated that there is no evidence to go forward with any charges.
This was not what Councilman Jim Graham told us when he spoke during the candle light vigil held for Ali few weeks ago. He told us that the police have informed him that there is enough evidence to charge the men for the second degree murder from aggravated assault.
Was this an election ploy? We have got used to politicians who speak with their fork tongs to calm wave of protests. The alleged perpetrators said “They have not done any thing wrong”. A HUMAN BEING DIED AS THE RESULT OF THEIR BARBARIC ACTION, AND THEY CLAIM THAT THEY HAVE NOT DONE ANY THING WRONG? From the start the way the investigation was handled did not feel right; something was fishy. The statement from the police and from the medical examiner’s office contradicted. All these indicated a cover up in the making.
What happened to the witnesses who spoke to the police on October 15? Did any one buy their silence? Are they subjected to any threats? We need to do what it takes to make sure that Ali’s killers are brought to justice. Investigators need to be hired and investigate about what exactly happened that night. The cover up must be exposed. The US attorney office is telling us that there is no evidence? Despite the fact there is evidence in a form of a dead body! How did the witnesses disappear in a thin air? We need to demand independent counsel to be appointed to look at in the way the case is handled. There is also a civil rights violation; thus the FBI and department of Justice need to get involve in this investigation.
It is stunning that today in Oakland California, a white police officer was sentenced for two years imprisonment for killing an unarmed black man. Is the KKK doctrine that says the only good “N” is a dead “N” making a come back? Is Ali’s religion and his color or creed played a role in US attorney’s office decision? At a time where anti Muslim sentiment is growing in this country, a decision to allow an alleged killers of an innocent young Muslim man get away with murder a politically correct thing to do?
It is Ironic that at the time that we Ethiopians are commemorating the murder of hundreds of innocent Ethiopians by a brutal regime in our homeland five years ago that we have learn the injustice committed against one of ours by the “justice system” that money can buy.
Please do not be silent. Make your voice heard. Let us Unite and show everyone that we will not let this go until we know the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth. I am puzzled and stunt by the fact that the charges against Ali’s alleged killers is dropped by the US attorney’s office three days after the election and few days after Councilman Jim Graham told us, publicly, that the police have told him that there was enough evidence by the medical examiner to upgrade the charges from aggravated assault to murder. What transpired between then and now? Were we given misinformation by the councilman? We need to know the truth. Please call US Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. at (202) 514-2001; FBI Director Leon Panetta at (202) 324-3000; and the US State’s attorney office for the District of Columbia. DO not let this go please! Tomorrow it could be you or your loved once, You can count on it!

Oscar Grant (in San Francisco) was shot and killed by an officer in front of so many people and the guy who killed him was set free. And look what is happening to Ali Mohammod. what is very troubling here is that we may never know the truth. That police commander and towns person were very very wrong to give media statements so early. VICK WAS SENTENCE 23 MONTHS FOR DOG FIGHTING; A BLACK YOUNG MAN KILLED AND RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS DEATH WERE HELD BY AUTHORITIES (EVEN FIRED FROM THIRE JOB_THAT INDICATE THEY DID SOMETHING WRONG) THEN THE JUDGE SET THEM FREE WITH LESS THAN THREE WEEKS AS IF SUFFICENT EVIDENC TOOK PLACE AND HE/SHE GOT TO JUDGEMENT/DETERMINATION (NOT EVEN COMMON IN AFRICA COURTS). IT IS A CLEAR UNJUST WHICH OUR AA BROTHERS AND SISTERS WERE HAD IT SINCE LONG.

Let me also add that there are a lot of international organizations, like Human rights watch or Amnesty international or national groups for Justice where we can coordinate our efforts to seek justice for the minority, and helpless like Ali. D.C. being an international city also makes it hard for this judge ot to escape media attention. One route is to let some African and Middle eastern or European nations embassies know about it. Also, why not let Al Jazeera know and investigate?
But, above all, it will matter how much money we are willing to spend. Unlike Romatohara's prediction, today I think differently.
Finally, Ethhiopian's blood is spilling over without any cost that comes with it. I heard through relatives that things of similar nature happened in the past in Columbus, Ohio. A white woman killed an Ethiopian boyfriend. She was able to get away.
Also, have you noticed how many Ethiopian store cashiers/owners have died in Atlanta, Kansas, Memphis, all over the states just because they were Ethiopians. I have not heard any Nigerians who had been killed to this degree or even the more common Indians. May be more Chinese or Korean store owners have died.
