Ethiopia Walyas move up 7 spots to rank 124 in FIFA ranking

nazret.com - Ethiopia's surprising showing in the just concluded Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup has moved up the Ethiopian National Football team 7 spots in the latest FIFA World ranking. Ethiopia now ranks 124th in the World and 33rd in Africa. Ethiopia's 2-1 win against Zambia at the Cecafa challenge cup has give the Walya's the biggest points for the latest ranking.

Spain is the world's top team followed by Netherlands and Germany. In Africa, Egypt is the top team followed by Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria and Algeria. Close to Ethiopia, Eritrea ranks 177th, Somalia 182, Djibouti 191, Sudan 92 and Kenya 120.

Since FIFA started its ranking system in 1993, Ethiopia's best showing was in December 1992 when the team was ranked 85th and its worst ranking was 155th in December 2001. Ethiopia is slowly moving up in the ranking table, but has a long way to be a football powerhouse.

Ethiopia is in Group B for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Guinea, Nigeria and Madagascar. Ethiopia lost its opener qualifier game against Guinea 4-1 and defeated Madagascar 1-0, it now stands third place with three points. Ethiopia faces Nigeria on March 25, 2011 for the Cup of Nations qualifier.

Ethiopia v Eritrea:
Ethiopia colonized eritreans, most of eritreas scholars graduated from ethiopia, many get scholarship even now, many eris ask asylum in Ethiopia, the tigrigan asks asylum not because of harrasment of thire government but for economical reasons, any eri writer can not write more than one paragraph with our the word Ethiopia. Their best runner Tadesse won one time the great Kenenisa and Kenenisa won him 15 times. The eri said the reason is because of the colonization.

Comment from: THE CHAT GENERATION'S ACHIEVEMENT [Visitor]
Ethiopia's best showing was in December 1992 when the team was ranked 85th .THIS NUMBER CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE MALNUTRITION AND CHRONIC HUNGER THAT HAVE BEEN PERPATRATED BY TPLF TO WEAKEN THE MAJORITY OF ETHIOPIANS FOR THE LAST TWENTY YEARS OR SO. IF IT WASNOT FOR THE CHRONIC HUNGER THIS GENERATION WOULD HAVE BEEN FULLY PARTICIPATING IN ALL AFFAIRS OF THE COUNTRY .

CURRENTLY WOYANE'S CHAT/KHAT GENERATION IS IN SUCH A WEAK STATE OF MIND WOYANE CAN INTIMIDATE THEM SO EASILY AND THE RANK 124th in the World and 33rd in Africa IN SOCCER IS CONSIDERED AS AN ACHIEVEMENT .

FOR A COUNTRY OF 80,000,000 PEOPLE WHERE SOCCER HAD BEEN MORE THAN A HOBBY TO ALMOST ALL MALES THE CURRENT SPORT ENVIRONMENT IS A DISGRACE TO ALL .
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE I WONDER WHAT MENGISTU WORKU WAS FEELING BY WATCHING THIS KHAT/CHAT GENERATION CONTINUEING HIS LEGACY IN REPRESENTING ETHIOPIA IN the 2012 Africa Cup .

Addis Zemen

I usually don’t agree with most of the comments you post on this site. But I must agree with this one. I also see that our team is much better these days. I was very much disappointed when they lost to Guinea in Addis Ababa last summer. I hope they beat Nigeria next march and qualify for the African Cup of Nations.
