This is just another feel good propoganda. We have been hearing the same story for the last 20 years but nothing to show for it. The Malaysian Company Petronas promised to invest two billion dollars on a pipeline to Djibouti five years ago but left without saying anything. Our memories are very short. The weyanes were even denying the fact that Petronas called it quits. The truth is that there is a proven gas reserve in Ogaden but the amount is not big enough to make economic sense for companies to invest a lot of money on it. But if they can increase the reserve by aggressive exploration and find new resrves then that is another story. Until then we should just cross our fingers. For now any talk of exporting gas is just cheap feel good propaganda.

I do not think that the finalisation of gas and oil exploration in the Eastern Ethiopia would bring peace and tranquility to the region. The area is a no go zone and there is a widespread human right violation. Gas and oil will definetely excerbate the already violatile situation. This region has always been a war zone where a few blood thirsted mercenaries excuting laws and regulations without checking their impacts.

The successfull completion of this project would embolden the ignorant individuals in Jijiga and pursue their blind policy. I do not think the people of this region would benefit from this project. If this is the case, the war in the region would continue an unabated as long as the people in Jijiga and Addis ababa come to their sense and bring democracy and fair sharing of the national resources.
