Ethiopian Exports Surged by 38% in Year on Coffee

Exports from Ethiopia, Africa’s biggest coffee producer, surged 38 percent in the year through July 7 as shipments of the beans jumped, the Trade Ministry said.

Total exports amounted to $2.8 billion in the period, the ministry said in a statement released yesterday in Addis Ababa, the capital.

Coffee was the Horn of Africa nation’s biggest revenue earner, raising $841.7 million from 196,118 metric tons of beans shipped. Last year, the country exported 172,210 tons for $528.2 million, the ministry said. The increase was driven by a 40 percent rise in global coffee prices in the period, Helaway Tadesse, senior vice president at Zemen Bank in Addis Ababa, said in an e-mailed response to questions today.

Gold shipments increased by 75 percent, bringing in $485.3 million from 11 tons of the precious metal.

Bad news to our neighbor Eritrea and enemies. Thanks God. We need foreign money exchange at this time so our government be able to achieve the five year plan that has already blooming our nation development. Long live to Ethiopia. May God bless our country and our people.

The robbery is countinues in day light by weyannes chiggarams. The so called weyannes GDP is nothing but a Femain GDP. Or as i call it a Chiggarams GDP

Now a days Farmers are learning how to increase their production and sale it for competitive price, they are happier than ever. One way of fighting poverty is teaching and arming farmers with all the tools they need to produce more and sale their products in a fair market. Woyane must be doing something right, so stop politicizing every issue, that doesn't help any body.

If only this money is given to the true owners, the farmers who produced the coffee, it would have been good. But the looting machine will hijack the money and nothing will be left. Let's not forget that second to coffee, the diaspora money sent back home is the biggest economy mover for our rather decimated homeland, Mama Ethiopia.
There will be joy and dancing in the cyber cadres homes as the loot will trickle down to these Meles "PUPPIES".

People's government now!!!

We have heard about this and that SURGE for the last 20 long years but the naked TRUTH and the reality on the ground is simply the endless dehumanization, displacements, killings, jailing, and the Horrible starvation SCOURGE of the 80 million Ethiopians.

The propaganda and endless swan song of the "beautiful cake in the sky" empty lyrics are only for the benefits of tyrannical minority dictatorship tplf members who were are still cashing on the land grabbing, democracy trapping, export trade and other businesses monopolization through mass starvation. They may fool some people some of the time but but they cannot foo all of the people all of the time.

There is no even a single coffee plant in Tigray. But these Tigres are now top sellers of coffee. They become millionaires out of the coffee export.
Sheme on you Wologa Oromos and Keffa . You can't guard your resource against Tigres invaders. You Oromos are stupid!
Wake up and be a man!

I am really amazed how the mind of the diaspora is polluted by worthless hatred politics. This type of politics has never ever been on the plant. These are special people who cares for the people and at the same time don't want to hear or see the better of the people. Whatever the gov is the progression is progression and whatever corrupted the system is, the ppl could be benefited. I wish you to go and get 4 killo palace or just separate Ormomo from ethiopia and lead your people, then you will never use Gilgel gibe II hydro power, or the under construction highway road from what u call finfine-to -adama? this calculation may require a 4 years old child mind to compute. Don't fool yourself ...Good luck!!!

Bulga,

If you are from Bulga, I must be from East Prussia, lol. My dear, time is up for "kefafleh gezachew." What you do not understand is, the Amharic speaker of Merhabete, is ten times closer to his brother, the Oromo speaker of Derra, than the Amharic speaker of Dembia in Gondar. They have married, traded, and lived side by side for centuries under the umbrella of Shewa. No matter how much all of this "mekefafel", what took centuries to build, can not and will not be unraveled by lies of a handful of secessionist haters who pulled down the Ethiopian flag in Mekelle, circa 1990. The same people who begged international organizations to legitemize the dismemberment of the Ethiopian people. You see, cant have two bosses in one house, the sad part like a fool, Isayas took the bet, and millions paid the price for it. To make it short and clear, my dear, we as Shewans don't see it that way. We are born of all people, I have Amara thru Sahle Sellasie, Tigre thru Sehul Mikael, Afar thru Ifat, all kinds of southern nationalities, my dark feature is a testament to that, but above all I am a proud Oromo. Look around you, its a bad season for despots and tyrants, it will knock on your doors too, soon very soon. Your "worthless poluted hatred interhwame politics" will not save you when that inevitable day arrives. Good day.

It is a good achievement for this woman. From selling her body for small amount of Sudanies money to selling Ethiopian number 1 export.

To bulga - the fake weyane cadre,
You really are the standup comedian of the week for this blog site.
I do know that you salary is determined by how much nonsense you write or even make everyone laugh.
Or is it that you are a substitute daycare worker who is telling make-beleif or pretend stories as if the blog site is visited by kids!

Yes, you are right. Some hooligans from Tigray are running the show by shamelessly looting the coffee from Oromia and south Ethiopia. You seem to know that Tigray (TPLF) is running the show. May be you can tell us the latest on the fate of the 10,000 tone coffee that disappeared few months ago? I know your beloved prime minister told us (rather jokingly) that it evaporated. He even told us many hands including those of TPLF cronies were involved in the evaporation process. He didn’t mention her name but we knew who he was referring to (wink wink). But, I was wondering where it rained. My friend told me that there was some rain around Arat Kilo the other day. Who knows that “evaporated coffee” might have been altered into rain? If so, I will be tempted to say that Ethiopia is a country with 13 months of sunshine where coffee beans can suddenly evaporate:):):)

@Shewarega
I'm from ze Behre Bulga doesn't mean I am not Ethiopian!!! I almost vanished my 50% of my grand Behre b/c my half parents are from non Bulga sect. I don't give a shit for what 'Behre' means. and I don't give a shit for what ' hate 'means. If u r from showa, it's true Yohanne's son and Minilike had been fought to gain power since the 19th century. Our race for power has started since the late 19th century. That was the problem for crises that has been happend now. Our economy is alsmot vanished, our politics spoiled, our identity controverted. damn!!
The bad thing is you and your fello hate progogandists are stil kneel to keep the power fight ahead and suffer our pooor ppl more and more.
I am not a cadre, um a RATIONALIST and by definition I am SMARTER than u.
The point is when things get better, We have to admire the gov, and when gets down we criticize it. and it is the civilized and RATIONALIST view!!!
Happy New Year!!
