Ethiopia is the Underdog in Group A for World Cup Qualifier
Ethiopia reached the group phase of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers after beating Somalia 5-0 on Wednesday in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia drew 0-0 against Somalia in the first leg of the match in Djibouti, which caused some soul-searching among football fans, but managed to win comfortably at home and sail to the second round. Now, Ethiopia finds itself in a relatively weak group but still it is the underdog team. According to the latest FIFA ranking, Ethiopia ranks 136 in the world, which places last among the group A teams which include South Africa, Botswana and Central African Republic.
South Africa is the favorite, but Ethiopia still has a chance to make it to the third round. There are 4 teams each in 10 groups competing to qualify for Africa's five spot in 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The 10 top finishers in each group will move on to third round and the top five finishers will represent Africa in the World Cup.
Ethiopia has not qualified to the African Nations Cup in more than 25 years much less, the world cup, but anything is possible and wish the Walias a success.
