Deal draws Kenya closer to tapping Ethiopia power

Deal draws Kenya closer to tapping Ethiopia power

Kenya has inched closer to clinching a deal to tap electricity from Ethiopia following a pact between the two governments.

Energy minister Kiraitu Murungi and his Ethiopian counterpart Alemayehu Tegenu reached a power purchasing deal and instructed bosses of power transmission firms Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco) and Ethiopia Electricity Power Company (EEPCO) to inter-connect the national power grids so that Kenya can tap from the line by 2016.

Additional electricity will enable Kenya to bolster its erratic supply. Wednesday’s pact paves way for Kenya’s import of 400MW of much needed power.

EPRDF keep walking Diaspora keep crying

Kenya joins Somaliland, South Sudan, North Sudan, Egypt Djibouti, Uganda as future hydroelectric power clients of Ethiopia. We are going to become a powerhouse in hydroelectricity. The days where we only were known for coffee are numbered. Lets do this.

ArMarea can suck it!

Go EPRDF

Derge was much better than the current racist ruling party.

Few years back BBC tried to create conflicts between the two brotherly African neighbours to stop the Hydro Dam. The Anti humanity elements from England and USA in the name of environment have tried their best to stop it.

The reason is not about Environment but to stop development in Africa. The English are producing electric from nuclear which is the worst human made danger in human history. Yet, those getting their electricity from nuclear, cool and gas are talking about protecting the environment when the Africans are trying to develop clean energy.

Their dirty game is known now. So, the Kenyans that are still the only semi colonized African country by the English are now standing for the truth and their right. They have to know that many many Kenyans were massacred during colonization by....

So, they are right having economic and political ties with Ethiopia while rejecting those are the enemy of Africa.
According to the Agreement Ethiopia will export power to all eastern and central African countries as far as to Zambia and Kenya will serve as a head quarter in the southern division. In the north it will be as far as to Egypt.

Good news for Ethiopians nightmare for shaebiya and its slaves.

This is what happens when vision follows action. Wow wonderful, Ethiopia will soon start exporting electricity to Kenya. I remember few years ago the government came up with a plan of exporting electricity to Djibouti, and many skeptics objected that. But Ethiopia succeeded in doing that. The electricity sector has now began to generate foreign currency to Ethiopia.

More is yet to come with the completion of the great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, that will enable Ethiopia to export close to to 2000MW of electricity to neighboring countries.

Slowly but surely we will defeat poverty.

This kind of news will make self proclaimed prophets of doom like Ayatollah Alemariam Dr Biru, and other ethnofascists sad, this is nightmare for them. This news is a reminder for them, Ethiopia is engaged in fighting poverty, anyone who dares to stop us from pursuing our main enemy isn't tolerated. Business is business in Ethiopia.

No one seems to be able to neither distract nor halt us from developing our country. The attempts being made by shaebiya and its slaves like Dr Biru Nega the fake economist would fail. I saw a very embarassing explantion given by Dr Biru with regards to the Renaissance Dam, he was urging Ethiopians not to buy bonds and give donations for the hydroelectric project.

Now, let everyone know, Ethiopia is pursuing its goals of becoming a middle income country in a decade or two, we are not going to babysit Eritrea and its surrogate kids like G7. If push comes to shove Ethiopian government will be forced to obliterate Shaebiya with its surrogate kids like Dr Biru.

Er'm, before exporting Ethiopia's resources including electricity (to stash away foreign currency in offshore Accounts), why not power at least 50% Ethiopia first. Even Addis has the most shameful, dismal access to electricity. The country is functioning with generators. Currently, less than 12% of Ethiopians have access to electricity, leaving an overwhelming majority in DARKNESS. I bet similar % of people had access to electricity 20 years ago.

... So, leeching on the country, exporting food while people are starving, exporting electricity while citizens are living in almost total darkness only makes sense to despicable TPLF roaches.

Everything has good and bad sides. If Ethiopia sales electricity to Kenya it is clear that our ties with the neighbouring country will be in positive progress let alone the income generated. On the other hand, if it is done without satisfying Ethiopians electricity needs then it is a failure because it will reduce production specially in small scaled industries. It is better we lose the small income rather than losing electric power in our industries and homes.

And some addition: Fuck all hate spreaders who ever they are whether from the fucking weyane side or the fucking opposition sides. Please don't transfer your spoiled thoughts to the next generation. This is how you think as David shine, ex US ambassader to Ethiopia put it "There is some thing in the water in that region that says 'if you are not with me you are against me'"

Meles is the worst hypocrite in the world. Just few months ago he bashed African countries for basing their political system on rent-seeking. On theory he despises rent-seeking as Africa’s developmental bottleneck. But in practice, he and his cronies are the number one rent-seekers. They are engaged in all forms of selling and favoritism at the expense of poor Ethiopians. He has no shame begging donors for food aid year in year out while he and his cronies keep cashing-in by selling Ethiopia’s resources. While much of Ethiopia is in a chronic shortage of power Meles and cronies are aiming at selling electric power to other countries. What a shameless lowlife!!!!!!

"the current ruling party governing the country for two century" wow i did not know Melese was 200 years old. i say this again and i will say it again. ethiopians need education , education and education. we should work hard in educating ethiopians because believe me we are the most dumbest people on earth with backward mentality. mekana, envy, racist all this is a sing of backwardness and stupidity. educate your self people. i am not full educated but trying hard to educate myself all the time. for this news it is great that we export power to our neighbors. i am an idealist i support some of the things EPRDF does and i support some of what opposition stand for. but these two groups must work together and not one should have total control. i don't agree that EPRDF should be replaced by opposition only. that is called dictatorship. EPRDF must stay and will stay along with the opposition. begirigir lela leba yematal.

The power hungry Meles wants to expand his tentacles to Kenya by selling electricity and to Somalia and Sudan by sending his thin legged InterAgame. The funny thing is someone needs to supply power to Ethiopia, where blackouts and outages are rampant.

I understand the concern of those who say that we should concentrate on providing affordable electricity at home before we sell outside. Fortunately both goals are not incompatible.
By selling outside Ethiopia can generate extra foreign exchange that it can use to purchase equipment and know how to further develop the great still untapped potential. The earnings will also allow the government pay for and to subsidize electrification of the country. It goes in steps; borrow develop sell borrow a bit less develop ..you get the picture.
In-order to sell to Kenya, both countries have to develop transmission distribution and physical road and rail infrastructure. This infrastructure will allow Ethiopia to use Kenya's ports and reduce dependence on Djibouti.
Furthermore, Ethiopia’s industry will continue to develop as it works on delivering the transmission and distribution capability. The developed knowhow and capability of our companies and the improved hydro generation and distribution capability can and will used to further the domestic electrification program. Now this is what I call a win win formula

we started to build infrustructure that was very poor to attract investors.now we are selling power to neibouring countries,i think that is one step forward to the long joureny.what ever the money goes,I can see there is big change in Ethiopians future.morethan 10,000 km roads are built and still continuing to build more.for me building electirical power by itself is a good sign of development.

How is it possible for Ethiopia to export to Kenya?

The Kenyans signed an agreement to buy electricity from Ethiopia didn't they? If you can sell sand to the desert people or ice to Icelanders, it shows me your excellent salesmanship.

Gemech

In this case Ethiopia is not selling sand to the people of the desert or ice to the Iceland. If your family has a little to eat you don't sell a portion of the little you got, unless you don't care about the rest of the family as long as you are the head of the family and eating enough for your flesh

After all Kenyan Politicians are smarter than their counterpart in the North.
