Forced Relocation in Ethiopia Especially Harmful to Women

According to Human Rights Watch, an Ethiopian program to relocate 70,000 is guilty of rights violations

Around 70,000 people from western Ethiopia are being forcibly relocated under the government’s “villagization” program. The people are taken to new villages that lack adequate food, farmland, healthcare, and educational facilities, according to a recently released Human Rights Watch report.

Human Rights Watch’s Senior Africa Researcher, Ben Rawlence, said women face even harsher impact under the program.

“Villagization impacts women I think disproportionately, as with all situations of humanitarian need and whether it is food insecurity and where people are vulnerable, because I think in two ways," he said. "Firstly those who are resisting the program and who are leading the opposition are mostly young men who of course are then arbitrarily detained or beaten or who then flee. And then in another way because they [the women] are the primary carers, primary source of the family’s food and income and the core of the housing and so on, so they are the ones who are left behind with the children and with the sick, old people.”

The men can return to their fields they were forced to leave or seek resources elsewhere, said Rawlence, but women must often stay behind. “As always it’s often the women who are left behind.”

Rawlence added that Human Rights Watch recorded reports of sexual violence among the women who were being relocated.

“Sexual violence was something that was reported in many of the places where we did the research," he said. "Military forces are notoriously difficult to control, and when you tell them to supervise the movement of people it’s often going to be the case that they will abuse that position and that seems to be what has happened in this case, and we have received twenty reports of sexual violence. Of course, none of those we are able to actually verify and we don’t know if the Ethiopian government is investigating them or not, but experience would say they are probably not.”

At least 8.8 million acres of land in Ethiopia has been leased to foreign and state-owned firms since 2008, and Ethiopia plans to lease a further 5.1 million acres, the report added. The Ethiopian government has denied rights violations and says “villagization” is vital to the nation’s development plans.

United Nations Declaration
on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Article 26
1. Indigenous peoples have the right to the lands, territories and resources which they have traditionally owned, occupied or otherwise used or acquired.
2. Indigenous peoples have the right to own, use, develop and control the lands, territories and resources that they possess by reason of traditional ownership or other traditional occupation or use,
as well as those which they have otherwise acquired.
3. States shall give legal recognition and protection to these lands,
territories and resources. Such recognition shall be conducted with
due respect to the customs, traditions and land tenure systems of the indigenous peoples concerned.

Neither the alien imposed federation of secession, Katuri or any other neo-colonial enterprise has a legal foot to stand on. Ethiopians from all regions of the empire demand their entitlement to a gasha of freehold land to be past down from generation to generation in order to increase their standard of living be restored and respected, immediately, as well as respect to the United Nations universal declarations of indigenous rights and human rights, taking into consideration Article 15
(1) Everyone has the right to a nationality.
(2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality.

The repugnancy of the neo-colonial regime of ethnic federalism continues to deny Ethiopians at home and abroad of their nationality and land rights enunciated in Ethiopia's Constitutional Monarchy, the only law abiding constitution for Our nation which upholds the fundamental liberties and freedom of Our peoples which is to be protected through the Charter of the United Nations, enabling Ethiopians to rise and take all measures possible at home and abroad to eliminate the neo-colonial forces of alien interests, exploitation and lawlessness from our Great Nation.
The alien imposed federation of secession in Ethiopia, will claim that Ethiopians are not being evicted from their rural dwellings by force but voluntarily, yet the Ethiopians who are being evicted from their land by the alien puppets of lawlessness, are subject to threats and intimidation at gunpoint leaving them with the option of torture and imprisonment, slave labour to the neo-colonial investors for wages below the poverty threshold or so-called voluntary villagization?
We urge all donors of the illegitimate regime to cease any economic assistance to that criminal group which is constantly denying indigenous Ethiopians their land rights, fundamental liberties and freedoms under the United Nations universal declaration of human rights. This colonial type exploitation has contributed to the hyperinflation on essential food items as demand has outstripped supply causing many Ethiopians to go to bed hungry. Outsiders who are the wealthy financial backers of the alien imposed federation continue to turn a blind eye to this neo-colonial exploitation, for they themselves are reaping the benefits of stolen gold and commodity exports from stolen lands whilst trying to make themselves look good by providing the regime with annual political repressive food handouts which are far less valuable and nutritional as those crops produced on Ethiopian soil. The bulk of the agricultural produce is being exported away from the farmer, as the regime continues to deny the farmer his right to land and his crops which he helped produce through his own sweat and labour. Although there is a positive future to come out of this neo-colonial sufferage, that is that the neo-colonial regime will become more hated amongst Ethiopians, and Ethiopians will rise to reclaim land which is rightfully theirs, disregarding all the phony laws of ethnic federalism to the point of evicting the alien puppets from office.

'In our own times, there are those expansionists who by shedding blood, desire to achieve their ambition and by dismembering themselves they are seen as tools for alien interests. Our people from Ethiopia shed blood, to save them from disintegration. Those personalities who believe in freeing a country by secession are selfish and prey to outsiders. We will not accept their motives.' Selected speeches of HIM Negus Haile Selassie I, page 426

"Neo-colonialism today takes two forms: economic and political. We recognize that economic dominance is not only often the more difficult to eliminate, but often serves as the entering wedge for political domination. We further recognize that, given the history of our continent, and the conditions under which we came to freedom, it is not unusual that, despite our best efforts, the economic independence which we seek is long and difficult in coming. Long-established patterns of trade are not easily or quickly reoriented. Let us not delude ourselves in thinking that these facts, for such they are, are of no significance for the future of Africa. But let us, at the same time, toil with all our strength to alter them.
When we consider political neo-colonialism, our desires, although perhaps no less difficult of attainment, are at least easier of articulation. We seek to avoid a rigid and inflexible posture which prejudices our position on major issues before the world. We seek to avoid alignment, to achieve true non-alignment. Our late good friend, H.E. Prime Minister Nehru of India, put it thus: 'The only camp we should like to be in is the camp of peace and goodwill.'" Selected Speeches of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, page 269-70

"The fundamental obstacle to the realisation of the full measure of Ethiopia's agricultural potential has been, simply stated lack of security in the land. The fruits of the farmer's labour must be enjoyed by him whose toil has produced the crop." Selected speeches of HIM Negus Haile Selassie I, pages 492-3

"The aim of those leaders that is based on ambition for power and personal gain is one with no firm foundation and will, consequently, crumble easily." Selected Speeches of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, page 471

"The soil of Ethiopia is a fertile soil. And it is loyal and dependable. Given but the proper attention and care, the Ethiopian soil remains, however much it is tilled, a dependable source of livelihood and dignity and wealth. It is thus ill-advised and indeed unreasonable to abandon the honourable and rewarding livelihood of farming in quest of other forms of employment in urban areas. A renewed dedication and diligence in farming would surely be a venture of more rewarding and lasting value.
It is not only that Ethiopia is ideal for the development of agriculture but the preponderant majority of its people also happen to earn their livelihood from farming. Draft legislations aimed at accelerating the tempo of agricultural development have been therefore prepared, following a thorough study of the existing systems of land administration and tenure in the various governorates-general." HIM Negus Haile Selassie I

"For those of you who possess the land and labour but lack capital, We have made credit available at low interest. For those of you who have the necessary capital but do not possess land to work on, We have, in accordance with Our proclamation which entitled every Ethiopian to ownership of land, established offices in every province through which you may be able to acquire land. Those who have neither land nor money will be granted land and a financial loan at low interest. For those of you who possess land, who have financial resources and manpower, We have made experts available to furnish you with the necessary guidance and advice in your undertakings." Selected Speeches of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, page 486

"The longevity and tenacity of a building can be judged by its foundation." Selected Speeches of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, page 495

"Every structure must be built on a solid foundation, for those constructed otherwise would soon collapse. The proclamation by which We made land grants to the entire Ethiopian people is the foundation of this scheme." Selected Speeches of HIM Haile Selassie I, page 487

"Man can only begin an enterprise it is for God to dispose of it to a good end." HIM Negus Haile Selassie I

Worth no comment.

I'm tired of watching, reading, listening and following a white man with matters that are only mine but not his.

Black man is really less than human. He is unable to stand for himself at all levels in the 21-century. Do you know any Ethiopian journalist or organization living in London talking or writing craps, lies and evil ideas about England? No. He would be seen as immigrant, poor, weak, unwise, isolated, uneducated and with many other bad things. Or they would use him for little left over to keep him alive and close to them to affect his own country by being their slave/agent.

Yet, Look the western so called journalists including this one and organizations doing in Ethiopia. They are there to harm the county while working for their own government policy which is most of the time bad.

The Anglo-American media and journalism is becoming the biggest fret and worst disaster to modern human. So called western NGO is also harming the poor while pretending to help.

The Ethiopian government must expel all western shit journalists that are there not for the sake of Ethiopia but to harm for the sake of their country and themselves.

The good news is that except few stupid and less than human Diasporas, no one reads, listens and believes any western Media and organization Satanic idea including so called HRW.

HRW? Is it a UN created body? No. It is created by group of selfish individuals with secret agendas working for the interest of anyone giving them more money. These kind groups are created by governments to do its job with misleading names. There is no Human right watch without UN, AU or the likes controlling it 100%.

Wake up people. Black man is still acting as if he is by nature less than the rest and he feels that he can't own/have his matters by/for himself. Listening, reading, following and go to hell/shit by a western white man seems the only option he has. Stupid.

"Agar na tareek iymotom ye tareek na kebr yemetebekow twulid naw" Negus Haile Selassie I

"Honesty means not to oppress anybody and deny him his deserved share. It does not mean being irresponsible or conceited and dictatorial. We, on Our part, will never cease to eliminate conceitedness, oppression, subversion and corruption in order to maintain peace and national security." Selected Speeches of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, page 393

"We take pride in reminding you that the tradition of Our Imperial Body Guard has been to follow unquestioningly the call of duty and to laugh in the face of death. To you who now take the place of those who have gone before you falls the sacred task of upholding this noble and glorious tradition."
Selected Speeches of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, page 605

"Ethiopia must remain united, without dissention, like members of a family. She must be regulated by a Constitution of universal application and governed by an Emperor. The force of this unity must be based on community of interests, so that the individual, without as a result suffering neglect or prejudice, may understand the power of this unity and the advantages to be drawn from it in the protection of his personal interests, whilst at the same time renouncing all personal ambition which would be to the detriment of the common goal." Selected Speeches of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, page 389

"As has been stated by Us when We gave the first Constitution, that '...the Ethiopian people must share the burden of responsibility which in the past was borne by their monarch...,' by this act We sought to disperse responsibility and authority among Our people, that they might exercise it, together with Ourself in securing the advancement and the unity of the Ethiopian nation. In this manner We sought to lay the groundwork for the orderly and natural growth of those political and social institutions which are essential to the development of a dynamic yet stable society." Selected Speeches of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, page 411

"Ethiopia is a country with her own cultures and mores. These, our cultures and customs, more than being the legacy of our historical past, are characteristics of our Ethiopianness. We do not want our legacies and traditions to be lost. Our wish and desire is that education develop, enrich, and modify them.
You all know the continuous effort that Ethiopia is exerting for the development of a profound and high standard education. We need educated and trained persons for research, for the study and development of our country's resources, for technology, for medicine, for the law, and the administration for our people according to their custom. These are the needs that constrain Us to provide, at all levels, education free of charge. And students, ever mindful of this privilege, should endeavour to recompense their country and nation." Selected Speeches of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, page 35

"Those that have fallen in the battle-field have sacrificed themselves so that Our future would be more secure. And we living have the responsibility of living up to the sacrifice that they have made, and to this all Ethiopians must dedicate themselves. In all your undertakings through your career, base yourselves on greater knowledge, courage and determination. For, if you base yourselves upon these values, you shall not fail but you shall forever go from one victory to another." Selected Speeches of HIM Haile Selassie I, page 612

When you have fertile land and you don't make use of it, you might as well lease it. Ethiopians prefer to depend on foreign aid than work hard and increase their GDP.
