Ethiopia suspends Kenenisa Bekele
BRUSSELS -- Olympic distance-running great Kenenisa Bekele has been suspended by the Ethiopian federation for not reporting to a training camp in a move that could affect whether he competes at the London Games.
Bekele, winner of the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the Beijing Olympics, was among 35 Ethiopian athletes who were originally suspended through the London Games. The group also includes Tirunesh Dibaba, winner of the 5,000 and 10,000 women's titles in Beijing.
Ethiopian Athletics Federation president Bisrat Gashawten Tirfe told The Associated Press on Friday the suspension will be lifted if they report for a future camp.
"They have to come to terms accordingly," she said.

ADDIS ABABA, Jan 20 (Reuters) - Ethiopia has indefinitely banned 35 athletes - including Olympic men's 5,000 and 10,000 metres champion Kenenisa Bekele - from competition in a row over training, the technical director of the Ethiopian Athletics Federation said on Friday.
The body, angry over flagging results in the past few years, summoned 200 athletes to a training camp two months ago ahead of the World Indoor Championships in March and the London Olympics in July and August.
But Bekele and other athletes including Olympic women's 5,000 and 10,000 gold medallist Tirunesh Dibaba ignored the call-up, technical director Dube Jilo said.

Only free spirited, gifted, determined, highly motivated, free willed strong individuals win. If training alone guaranteed gold medal, the ever well-disciplined, well trained Caucasians would have taken over long distance a long time ago! Discipline is the most important part of any sports. No matter how much an athlete is talented and great, if they don't have discipline, everything will be wortheless.

I think it is the right move by the Federation, they can't just go to Olympic because of their past glory and constantly embarrassing both the nation and themselves, the federation have the obligation to check their fitness, after all Olympic is much about the nation than the individual. IT's a big malady of the federation. I do not know why they do not want to learn from their past blunder that they made on Ethiopian Sport history. They were denying Adere Berhane at the Athens Olympic competition when she was the best athlete and the best time of the then year and also the historical occasion like Seoul olympic that we lost to see their best talent of the best athletes of the then like Belanyneh , Abebe, worku, Kebede . Federation has to know these athletes are not made best by them and they have their own God gifted talent and the federation has to negotiate with them properly for their best result.
