No objection to the study. But, the researchers are completely ignorant of the populations of Ethiopia. You cannot pinpoint a certain tribe, like Amhara, to be a highland resident of Ethiopia. Ethiopia being an ancient state, is a complete melted-pot! They can only talk about Ethiopian highlander, as opposed to Amhara or Tigre or Oromo or Gurage highlander. They should have asked what tribe Liya (pictured in the article) belongs to in order to correct their wrong selection of just one tribe name. The better choice again is : Ethiopian highlander.

This is really amazing. I am now starting to believe most Ethiopians do actually have very low IQ. The man is just writing a review of a research article published in a research journal called human genomes if I am not mistaken. He did not do the research.

The goal of the study is to find any genetic adaptation to higher altitudes among people of Ethiopian highlands. They found an evidence of this by comparing Amhara highland residents with other two groups( I remember one is hamer). We all know the Amhara reside on highlands. The sample of Amharas were selected from very high altitude some where in northern Ethiopia, not from Addis Ababa (Addis is not high enough to see such genetic adaptions it is only around 2500 meters above sea level). For example, the sample of the Amhara selected comes from residents living above 3200 meters from sea level.

Please people, if you dont know just ask or read. Dont just jump into ridiculous conclusions and name calling. This is just a scientific work and nothing to do with politics or racism. God ...what is wrong with us ?????

But i wonder if there is another side to the reason why the Empress decided to call this new place Addis Ababa, given that according to your comment the area belonged to your Great Grandfather Aba (fit) Ababae Tuffa. There seem to be a co relation between the city's name and Aba Tuffa's name.

Most of what I said came out of the book written by the famous poet, Ato Mengistu Lemma. "Metsahfe Tezeta Ze Alekka Lemma Hailu." It was written after he interviewed his father for many long days, and recorded the events then thru the eyes of Alekka Lemma. Many important events were discussed, including the establishment of Addis, and the horrible famine of 1890-1893, in which a third of Ethiopians perished.

I have never came across from any of the numerous elders I met who mentioned why the Empress chose the name Addis Abeba, but the reason you mentioned seems to be logical. I doubt it has anything to do with Fit Abaebae's name, he was just one among thousands of chiefs in Shewa, it just happened that the city came to grow around his land, nothing more.

Our country has fallen in a very tragic situation, and the only thing she has to retrieve her from there are me and you, and all other Ethiopians, her precious sons and daughters. Based on that, whatever we say in here has in the end to reflect how we can selectively attack the ethnic bantustan "kefafeleh gezachew" imposed upon Ethiopians, with as little as possible collateral damage to all. Collectively attacking a whole segment of Ethiopians will not achieve that.

Having said that, when I talked about Tigrayans being Shewans, I was not talking about those in Adigrat or Adwa, rather those that have lived in Shewa for generations.
