Oklahoma-Ethiopia connection explored in new documentary film

A new documentary film explains how the origins of the $350 million Ethiopian coffee industry are tied to Oklahoma State University, a former school president and a tragic plane crash.

In 1950, former Oklahoma State president Henry Bennett became an assistant secretary of state to head up President Truman's international technical assistance program. Bennett planted the seeds for what would become a series of schools throughout Ethiopia.

Bennett died in a plane crash in 1951 in Iran while researching expansion of the program, which thrived after his death. Thousands of students learned ranching and agricultural techniques at the schools founded by Oklahoma State professors.

What a great story!! OSU's relationship and dedication to Ethiopian agricaltural schools and students, have contributed a great deal of benefits to our country.
Producing such informative documentary film will keep the memory and also is a gratutiy to those involved in the begining and the last six decades.
BTW, congrats to the Oklahoma cowboys football team, for coming so close to be national champions. In my opinion they desrved to play the finals against LSU. Instead of BAMAS, who eventually won the title.

Very strange story. The Ethiopian coffee industry is much older than the US and the state of Oklahama let alone the University itself.

Not strange at all, the resources were there but not so much the technology. Mr. Bennett's help in establishing schools around Ethiopia helped the coffee industry grow into a profitable industry as stated in the modern era.

RE: Ine... What's strange about the story? Read the story again! It did not say OSU planted coffee in Ethiopia.

Question: Why do people that don't fully understand things feel the urge to comment? I see a lot of that here on Nazret; is it our culture?

Ali, you have observed very well my firend. Some times it is good to be confident and act like you know in some situation. But, most of the time it will stop us from asking to know what we dont know.

A great man ones said "TO KNOW WHAT YOU DONT KNOW" is the greates gift, otherwise you will stick you head where you dont belong or dont know.
