Ethiopia's Tyrant dodges NYT Columnist Nicholas Kristof in Davos
Ethiopia's Tyrant Meles Zenawi apparently has no balls to meet New York Times Columnist Nicholas Kristof for a Q&A. Writing in the New york Times titled "What’s He Got to Hide?", Kristof wrote, "I’m in Davos, Switzerland, for the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum, and so is Meles. I’ve been pursuing him for the last few days, trying to confront him and ask him about his worsening pattern of brutality.
He has refused to see me, so I enlisted my Twitter followers to report Meles sightings. I want to ask him why he has driven more journalists into exile over the last decade than any other leader in the world, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists in New York City."
If he has a balls he shouldn’t hide at Menilik’s palace and corrupt the Country with his mafia groups.
He had the balls to lead a guerrilla group and fight a soviet sponsored derg war machine WITHIN the country unlike diaspora cabbies almariam.
Eselem i know you dont have half the balls Meles has.
He didnt fear mengistu, he doesnt fear kristoff.
He has no time for this piece of swiss cheese when we have kitfo to fry!
VIVA LA MELES
Really? Why should Nicholas Kristof and his “Twitter followers” be important to Meles?
That is nothing new, He has a lot and a lot to hide so he wouldn’t dare to sit for an interview with the likes of Nicholas. Nowadays, his brutality seems no bound, even by african dspots standard.
you are not after justice or any thing baby, you are just after fame and attention…you just want to promote yourself with a pretext of exposing crimes against humanity…typical of incompetent western journalists who can not make it in the west and try to get fame by hunting Africans.
The Crime Minister is a well known COWARD who has never had the GUT to
face “TRUTH” .Wonder what the hell
can contribute all these despots to
the Davos Meeting .If the Organisors
want to help African Peoples by resolving the Continent Economic Crisis .The First Step that they should make it’s to Invite these looters to bring back the wealth and
the money to the peoples from whom
they have stolen !!!!
“THE GREATEST DECEPTION MEN SUFFER IS FROM THEIR OWN OPINION” Leonardo da Vinci,
This columnist thinks he is somebody important, and put himself in a position that, he can insult or say anything in his mind about an African leader, so long there are people cheering and aplauding for him.
Well, FYI mr Kristif, the first step to be real columnist is, to be honest to yourself, abide by the rule, follow the ethics. There is always the other side.
If you decide you can label someone with what ever is in your mind, why do you expect us to believe you?
You may have found fans from the opposition side, or with your own account you’ve taken CPJ as a reliable source. The fact of the matter is, our leader PM Meles Zenawi have proven time and again, all those Ethiopian enemys wrong and delusional. And you’ll find yourself in that catagory soon. WRONG and DELUSIONAL!!
This is one more self assertion from the talkative journalists mob. I think Meles did good by ignoring you.
People at this economic forum in Davos need to wake up to the realization of the fact that their economic model which benefits the minority at the expense of the majority is no longer sustainable nor morally acceptable. The Murdoch propaganda empire is broken, Wall street is tumbling and the Eurozone is crumbling away. For so long wicked Babylon have deceived the nations through her wine of fornication, her divide and rule policy is evident today in neo-colonial Ethiopia under ethnic federalism, which is a regime propped up by the wealth of outsiders and controlled by alien puppets at the expense of Ethiopians and their land of riches.
“Man can only begin an enterprise. It is for God to dispose of it to a good end.” HIM Negus Haile Selassie I
“Each provision in this Chapter has a precedent, either in Ethiopian traditions, or in well-established constitutional precedents abroad. No less than 29 articles have been inserted in the Constitution to provide for the protection of the essential liberties and rights of the people. Thus, We have provided that “no one shall be denied the equal protection of the laws"; that “there shall be no discrimination amongst Ethiopian subjects with respect to the enjoyment of all civil rights";that “there shall be no interference with the exercise in accordance with the law of the rites of any religion or creed by residents of the Empire";that “freedom of speech and of the press is guaranteed throughout the Empire, in accordance with the law";that “correspondence shall be subject to no censorship except in time of declared national emergency.” We have, further confirmed our practice that every person accused of a crime shall be presumed innocent until proven guilty and that no one shall be imprisoned for debt, except in case of legally proved fraud.” Selected Speeches of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, page 406
“Unlike many countries of the world, We have provided the right to any resident of the Empire to bring suit against the Government or ministry, department, agency or instrumentality thereof, for wrongful acts resulting in substantial damage. Likewise, everyone in the Empire shall have the right to present petitions to Us.
So important have We considered these guarantees of Human Rights and Fundamental Liberties that, in the Revised Constitution, We have stipulated that not only the courts but, in particular, Ourselves, shall at all times assure and protect these Human Rights. They constitute principles which no branch of the Government, be it the Executive, Legislative or Judiciary, can transgress and which, in consequence, must be placed under the particular protection of the Sovereign Himself. We Ourselves will always be ready to act positively to ensure respect for these rights by all branches and every official of the Government. Thus, the lowliest subject of the Empire, the poorest as well as the richest, even the convict in prison, has always the assurance that the Sovereign is at all times vigilant in the protection of his rights and fundamental liberties.” HIM Negus Haile Selassie
“In our own times, there are those expansionists who by shedding blood, desire to achieve their ambition and by dismembering themselves they are seen as tools for alien interests. Our people from Ethiopia shed blood, to save them from disintegration. Those personalities who believe in freeing a country by secession are selfish and prey to outsiders. We will not accept their motives.” Selected Speeches of HIM Negus Haile Selassie I, page 426
“The aim of those leaders that is based on ambition for power and personal gain is one with no firm foundation and will, consequently, crumble easily.” Selected Speeches of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, page 471
Long Live the Constitutional Monarchy!
Long Live African Unity!
Long Live the United Nations Charter!
Fire burn down the neo-colonial star of secession
Rise with the Lion of Judah!
Gasha for Ethiopians!
Long Live Independent Ethiopia!
We Africans are too busy for your little western Imperial men like you. We’re moving fast with higher gear to the east side of the road. You can talk to me when you are out of your recession or call it depression. Until then you have to wait 11 years to see your Swedish friends ;-)
Kristof you sound like a mini dictator yourself, how on earth can you dream of forcing individuals to get interviewed by you. I can see from your writings, you appear to be already biased and prejudiced.
Ethiopia is not detaining individuals for being journalists, those detained are individuals who have been attempting to cause havoc and instability in the country. Any country wouldn’t stand and watch when certain individuals are trying to destabilize the country.
If you are talking about the two Swedish journalists its clear. they entered the country illegally and that itself is a crime. Can you tell me if USA will fold its arms and watch when foreign journalists are entering the country accompanying terrorist groups like alshabab or alqaeda ? Please be fair if you got a rational mind, otherwise if you are trying to bully Africa and African systems, you deserve to be ignored. Meles has done well by avoiding you.
Nicholas Kristof you appear to be speaking on behalf of the toxic Ethiopian opposition whose job is feeding negative information to columnists like you. The reality in Ethiopia is different from the way you are trying to depict our country. Journalists in Ethiopia can operate freely, read what the president of JAR said recently about Ethiopia.
The outgoing president of African Journalists for Renaissance, Hon. Dr. Moha Dahir Farah, appreciated Ethiopia’s tremendous efforts in realizing freedom to journalists and the media.
In her exclusive interview with WIC, Dr. Moha appreciated the government’s openness to work closely with the media in order to maximize media’s contribution towards strengthening democracy, good governance and development.
“What some media are reporting about Ethiopia is quite different from the reality in the country; Dr. Moha said, adding that Ethiopia is a peaceful, respectful and developing country where encouraging and hopeful changes have been taking place.”
She underlined that as the country is in a rapid socioeconomic progress, both local and international media should work inline with the reality so as to offer the best benefit to the public.
“I had ample exposure to many African countries like Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia, South Sudan, South Africa, Mauritius, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Ghana and Nigeria in the past few years that gave me a good opportunity to learn what is happening in connection with media freedom, she said, adding that media freedom in Ethiopia, by any parameter, in a very encouraging stage.”
She also congratulated the government of Ethiopia in general and H.E. PM Meles Zenawi and H.E. Bereket Simon for all the improvements in the country in media freedom and other development issues.
Dr. Moha also said that despite searching only the negative stories of Ethiopia, it would be better to open eyes to the developments in the country
She advised to African media in particular and international media in general to shoulder their shares of responsibility in ensuring economic development and realizing good governance and democracy in the continent.
Journalists for African Renaissance (JAR) were established by journalists from Somaliland, Kenya, Botswana, Sudan, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia on January 2009.
Fascist Meles never had a ball.If he had the ball…he could have showed it on 2005.he was so scared he had to send the agazi fascists to every city to shoot and kill …any one who happens to be gathering or playing football..been shot ..i WILL NEVER EVER FORGET THAT..HOW INHUMAN AND FASCIST THE TPLF WERE EVEN AT THAT TIME…I WONDER HOW HE SLEEPS AT NIGHT???I WONDER…I WISH ONE DAY YOU WILL DIE THE SAME FATE AS BULLET ON YOUR HEAD…EVEN THAT WILL NEVER HEAL THE WOUNDS…
The silent majority ethiopians have no balls or guts to disobey the unelected cookoroches and leeches the brutal Legesse regime tplf law of the land. The Journalists & activists who are in concentration camps for every ethiopian librity and dignity.what in the heavens are we waiting for? We the young have the responsibility to remove the cancer and free our country …enough of this barbaric & racist regime..beka ..beka beka!!!
Rise up & stand up!!!
kristof, even those who disagree with meles on many issues think these two “journalists” and others who meddle in our affair, by supporting these or that rebel group, got what they deserve. by the way all of the sudden you are concerned about ethiopia when your two white folks are arrested inside ethiopia border, what does that say about you??? dont you know what you basically are saying is “meles can do what ever he wants to do to his people but not to my white people no matter what they do, even if they are found with armed terrorist group illegaly in ethiopia!!!
Go to hell Nicholas D. Kristof!! What a f**** journalist are you? You have already made your mind that he is the culprit and you’re determined that you want to assert that to the world. Is this journalism in your world? You are so biased and angry and you actually wanted to prosecute him not interview him. You are not ready to listen to his side of the story. With this purely judgmental and partial view why do you need the interview? Only to ridicule him, slay him and to show your kill and buy cheap popularity; right? Hey white man, go and write your already formed bitter opinion. No news this time!
So, Meles is smarter than accepting your ‘invitation’. You don’t get anything out of the cerebral leader to make news. He cannot be your victim.
