Hospital hold Ethiopian woman until she pays cost of delivery
An Ethiopian woman who came to the United Arab Emirates to work as maid gave birth just two days after arriving in Abu Dhabi. According to Dubai based Gulf News, the woman's pregnancy was not known to both the sponsor and her recruitment agency. The paper said, the employer was told by the housemaid that she was suffering from abdominal colic.
But a visit to a hospital confirmed that the housemaid was nine months pregnant and her abdominal colic was in fact labour pain.
A source in the hospital told Gulf News that the Ethiopian woman would not be released, until she paid the cost of her delivery and her visa will be cancelled and banned from entering the country again. The paper said, neither the sponsor nor the recruitment agency bears liability and the woman alone is on hook to pay the undisclosed hospital cost.

In my humble opinion the woman bears some responsibility in that she knew about her advanced pregnancy of 9 months when she arrived.

May be the women was pregnant after rape by a senior Government official/woyane and was threatened not disclose it otherwise she will be killed. That is why she board a plane at the cost of her and her babies life to escape.
May be this women is also among the many Ethiopian women from a mysterious undiscovered genetic reasons can't know whether they are pregnant or not, it is a situation where the existence of a baby don't give any indication until the final hours.
May be this women was suffering complication of pregnancy and lost confidence in the poor hospital facilities in Ethiopia and forced to try hospitals in another country both to save her life and her baby.
It is possible the women have thought Arabs are kind people and would help her deliver her baby and hire a baby sitter for her baby and then she can pick on her work as a maid latter on.

She suffered when the time of delivering her baby came before she found a shelter where she could stay. She suffered while she was delivering her baby in a foreign country. She suffered when she was told she was not leaving the hospital until she paid for the services she received to deliver her child. She suffered when she was told her visa would be cancelled, and she would be banned from entering Dubai again.
How come the Abu Dhabi hospital doctors, nurses, and the managers couldn’t comprehend the immense sufferings of this Ethiopian girl? How come they want her life and the life of her new born baby to be miserable at their hospital? Does not her baby who was born in Abu Dhabi hospital qualify to be a citizen of the United Arab Emirates since he/she was born in that country?
To my judgment, her hospital bill must be paid by the Ethiopian government, including her transportation to go back to Ethiopia, and the Ethiopian government is responsible to find her a descent job and a free housing until she stopped nursing her baby.
