Ethiopia: Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant in Las Vegas Cited For Sanitation Violations

Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant located on Convention Center Drive in Las Vegas, Nevada has been profiled in a local TV show dubbed "Dirty Dining". The restaurant featured this week is a prime example of why we call this segment "Dirty Dining."

And as the owner told Chief Investigator Darcy Spears, most of the problems boil down to employee negligence.

The pictures make it hard to tell when the kitchen was last cleaned at Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant on Convention Center Drive.

How would you like to eat food cooked in pots and pans covered in "extreme black debris build-up," making them "impossible to clean?

Ethiopian restaurants are the worst when it comes to sanitations. It’s a cultural thing; I learned that from my trip to Ethiopia. Have you been any Ethiopian restaurant restrooms, please do not go if you ever been there. You will start vomiting. You would assume they would clean it since you use your finger to eat the soft bread but the bathroom is the worst please to be. Now I learned the kitchen is dirty. Will never go there!

I have been saying it all the time how bad they all are with disgusting habit (Guursshaa) . The owners Do not have a slightest clue when it comes to sanitation. They live like they are in Ethiopia. They snizze and scratch their hair and they never wash their hands. I some times wonder if they are clean and free from TAPEWORM AND OTHERS THING THEY CARRY WITH THEM FROM ETHIOPIA. You never know untill you one day . The ET restaurant specially in America hire ppl. Who just arrived from Ethiopia with all sorts of infection diseases specially the women with their smile hides a deadly infectious diseases . I never put my feet where GIMMATAMS run a restaurant with dirty toilets. It is in their culture when it comes toilets and cleanese ,they do like it STINKY.

NOW , back to school how to run a CLEAN restaurant with CLEAN TOILETS AND SANETATION. or end up closing it.

Ayeeee, birr bicha sitay sanitiation zengiteh:: Don’t blame the employee. Most Ethiopian restaurants have poor sanitization if you go into the kitchen. I feel sorry for those who dine 7 days a week in Ethiopian restaurants. He/she will be ended in staying in the hospital for a week.

That is the problem with Ethiopian restaurants, they are all about money. Clean your damn restaurants. I rarely eat at Ethiopian restaurants for that same reason. Either the toilet smells or they lack sanitation.

This is shaming for Ethiopians all over not to mention our culture.

Best to refrain from foul words and defamation.

Whether it is true what is written over here is a questionable.

I know that immigrant seeks food rather they would stick on eating sand from their back home. Now it appears that they want to reflect their hate toward Ethiopia , either emanated from a conflict with the country or existing as business competitors.

If there is a problem, inspectors can take care of it. This is a highly standardized country, and not like Erteria, Ethiopia, Somalia, Egypt and others which are obviously on development stages.

As an Erthiopian I agree that most of as Ethiopians have a distorted idea of doing business and we don’t want to put as much effort as our desire to work hard or do business…Having said that it is attributed to our history of isolation such as not having being exposed to the rest of the world through colony…a very deep subject I very much doubt most ignorant commenter on here can understand..

Wow……kikikiki….please don’t. Tell me how are the condtions of the bathrooms. when you go to the restaurants in addis ababa, from what I will never forget …. as soon as you walked in to that nasty bathroom you will be greeted by tons of flies..kikiki
After that what you have to say is ( it is cultural ) so what you have to respond back for those tons flies is ” ere..ere.. ayegebam ” and take your sit on that horrible looking bathroom sit…..kikikikiki…will never forget this mess…but soon all will be in the perfect way.
I love you my mother Ethiopia….long live Ethiopia.

It’s very common that Health inspectors often check businesses and sometimes close it temporarily due to sanitation or for some other reasons, and the subject restaurant happened to be an Ethiopian Restaurant, not a big deal..

I am sure the owner of the restaurant will fix the mistake and will comeback even stronger. wish you all the Best!!!

Not surprised. What do you expect from the toxic diasporas? Please start cleaning instead of protesting in the street.

The bottom line is this place is so dirty!!! And the owner is not taking any responsibility, he blamed the employee but doesn’t he run the restaurant? Just man up and clean the place…..PLEASE

Why should this be in a national TV?
Is it just b/c an Ethiopian restaurant?
Each year in the United State, one to two bouts of diarrhea illness in every adult, up to 48 million cases of food borne illness occur and due to lack of sanitation at least 128,000 american are hospitalized and 3000 die.
Are all these people dining in Ethiopian restaurant???
