New conditions drawn up for Ethiopian domestic workers headed to UAE

New conditions drawn up for Ethiopian domestic workers headed to UAE

An Ethiopian official said the country’s government is close to lifting a ban on its nationals working in the UAE after reaching a labour agreement with authorities in the Emirates.

The treaty, expected to be made public in the next two months, would guarantee a minimum wage and insurance for Ethiopian maids and low-paid workers, the official claimed.

In July, the Ethiopian government banned women from coming to the UAE to work as maids after a series of complaints about serious physical and sexual abuse.

I would love to advice my people to stay home and find a good idea to make a living rather than dreaming about the so called good life in foreign land east, west or Mideast the reality is you are outsider no matter what. In Ethiopia under current EPRDF leadership there are many opportunity here is tips for you get in a good group with a good idea and ask for small inter-price business loan then you are on your foot for success,

This new rule\policy\condition is only on paper. There is no Enforcement clause.

So life will move on and the maids will suffer. We ought to learn from our neighbours from the south Kenya, Tanzania, or Uganda. You don’t see maids flooding the airports in those countries to go to Gulf States.
The culture of using humans as exportable, hard currency earning items need to stop.

I agree with on your comment “In Ethiopia under current EPRDF leadership there are many opportunity” Yes ! That is TRUE ! The problem is our brothers, and sisters in the diaspora always lying to the young generation by sending a picture next to the unknown owner car, and vilas ;instead of telling the truth. So far it is getting better now, we knew everything about their lie, but still there few young Ethiopians trust their propoganda….

What a Shame .These bandits are treating with the UAE state as if our ladies are simple marketing goods .It’s concerned of Human Lives .If these poor ladies are obliged to be exiled is because of the countrie’ s low income problem .Unable to feed they and their families .Not really as stated above two Stupid Agazi Ass Holes ,looking for conforts and leisuries .It is also the result of bad
governance of the TPLF Tyranni and the looting of the peoples wealth by the Tigre Mafiosis and their Bandas .Whatever they say or write these evil bandits are accountable for the suffering and the death of our sisters in the Arab World .

Very good news. We live now in a globalized economy. India, Philippines, Nepal, Bangladesh and others all have workers working in the Gulf Region. Not only maids but professionals too like Doctors, Engineers and nurses. Dubai business now mainly is moved by Indian Millionairs that went there as workers and built their fortune. I do not see why we Ethiopians can’t do the same.
I would like to inform the Government that one tactic that employers use to intimidate their foreign workers is that they demand their Passports and won’t give it back to them. Since these are registered workers at the Embassy, the Embassy should be gracious enough to help them get another copy of a Passport. Also there should be a clause in the agreement that allows for Ethiopian workers to change jobs that they deem better giving their bosses reasonable time to find another worker.
It would be nice also to see Ethiopian Bank branches open all over The Gulf, good for business and good for Ethiopians.
Amen.
Good Luck and do not listen to the negative. Respect the laws, save your money

Seattle,
Two things,
One isn’t it too early to say it is on paper or not, because time is a factor and we have not yet seen the policy enacted to say so.

Second, Do you know China and India actually have many domestic workers in other countries too with their economy being the way it is? So this has been there, even east Europeans go to west to do similar, or closer jobs. This is human behavior to search for job. Or else why don’t you start creating job for your sisters, other than remotely commenting?

Thanks for being polite when you will answer my questions, either here or to yourself.

Gebru , John and EPRDF lovers

There is ruling class and there are majority who are being ruled.
For the few in the ruling class, life in Ethiopia is thriving, business is booming employment is abundant, every door they knock is open, for the majority, eating once a day is luxurious, even after graduation a cobble stone is waiting under safety net.

It was up to the government to create a favorable policy and condition for its citizens to create job or employment opportunity.

It is only economic problems that makes the young to flee in exodus from their own country. Just recently how many has died trying to cross to Yemen illegally. Whose body was that, all over the news in the sands of the beach of Yemen ?
The regime you are supporting has rotten from the stem, no other branch will be healthy. It’s corrupted, it’s a racist, ….nepotism, cronyism is highly developed. It doesn’t respect it’s own law…..
So you guys are trying to be idiot-smart siding with a regime who has created a slavery system in modern age.

Ethiopian women have the right to travel anywhere they please. The Ethiopian economy can not absorb all the graduates graduating every year, neither China. So individuals have to create their own job (open a business) or go abroad.

It would be very selfish of us that are outside living a good life preventing others from doing what we have done. When giving a permit they should have an age limit because I have heard instances in Wollo where Muslim fathers pushing their young daughters to go.

We have been crying for the last twenty plus one year about this illegal human trafficking.
For weyane elites and their watchdogs it’s highly profitable business. These Kerakenbos, weyene, never attempt let alone find the remedies for this terrible long standing problem . The only solution for this and any other problems is to irradiate parasitic-mercenary weyane once and for all from the land of Ethiopia.

When it comes to Arab countries and their relationship with Woyane on Ethiopia we should never let our guards down.

All those home grown enemies such as Shabia and TPLF/Woyane were groomed and nurtured in Arab counties. Now it is the continuation of their “Let’s Ruin Ethiopia” program that was created before 1991 Woyane era.

All Arab counties especially Gulf give their citizens including the beduans rights to abuse Ethiopians and poor foreigners who came to their country to work as labors, maids and servants. Fairness and human rights never have or will ever exist in Arab countries. Even to their own women. Qatar may be slightly better democratic to its own citizen but not to foreigners.

Guess what now we have Alamoudi the Saudi Billionaire who is ruining the farm environment and sending organically farmed vegetables and food to Qatar and building his empires at the destruction of Ethiopia.

There is no friend of Ethiopia in the whole Arab continent except maybe Yemen who is also a victim of Saudi invaders.

Qatar is acting as a Super Power like Saudi Arabia not because they are strong in military and technology but because they are oil rich and can buy African greedy so called leaders
