Burkina Faso beats Ethiopia 4-0 in African Cup

NELSPRUIT, South Africa (AP) — Alain Traore scored two goals Friday to help 10-man Burkina Faso take control of Group C with a 4-0 victory over Ethiopia in the African Cup of Nations.

Traore netted in the 34th and 74th minutes at the Mbombela Stadium to become the leading scorer in the tournament with three, and ensure that goalkeeper Abdoulaye Soulama's red card ultimately had no effect on the game.

Soulama was sent off with Burkina Faso leading 1-0 with half an hour remaining for handling the ball outside the area.

But Ethiopia was unable to capitalize, and Djakaridja Kone and Jonathan Pitroipa rounded off the scoring for Burkina Faso to put it top of its group with four points.

Ethiopia made four changes from the team that drew 1-1 with Zambia as it tried to counter the Burkinabes physical presence with pace.

The tactic nearly paid dividends in the opening minutes of the game when Salahdin Said's crafty backheel put Shimelese Bikele through on goal, only for his effort to hit the upright.

Burkina Faso grew in stature, and after Wilfried Sanou had a goal ruled out for offside, Traore gave it a deserved lead.

Although Ethiopia defender Degu Debebe was able to clear an initial attack off the line, the Ethiopian defense rushed out and allowed Charles Kabore to send a ball over the top for Traore to open the scoring.

The diminutive Ethiopians continued to struggle with the raw power of their opponents, and made two injury-enforced substitutions before halftime.

They were handed an unexpected advantage in the second half when Soulama snatched a relatively harmless ball from outside his penalty area and was shown a straight red card.

But as Ethiopia pressed forward, Burkina Faso was able to hit on the break and Traore rifled home his second from 30 yards out.

"The game did not go according to plan," Ethiopia coach Sewnet Bishaw said. "In the second half we tried to manage it, but there were unnecessary goals from Burkina Faso and that totally destroyed our emotions."

Kone and Pitroipa completed the rout as Ethiopia fell apart, giving Burkina Faso its first win at the African Cup in 15 years.

"We can say it was a very crazy game, and certainly in the beginning we were lucky with the ball hitting the post," Burkina Faso coach Paul Put said.

"But when we scored the goal you saw Burkina Faso was released to play the game. And I think when we were down to 10 men we kept very disciplined and we scored another three goals so I'm very happy."

NELSPRUIT, South Africa
— Burkina Faso ended an 18-match win-less run in the Africa Cup of Nations by trouncing Ethiopia 4-0 Friday with three of the goals coming after goalkeeper Abdoulaye Soulama was sent off.
Alain Traore scored in each half for the Stallions, whose last victory was against Guinea when they hosted the 1998 tournament, and goals from Djakaridja Kone and Jonathan Pitroipa completed the rout.

Ethiopia vs Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso leads Ethiopia 1-0 at Half Time

Eritrean linesman rocks !!!

Burkina Goalkeeper red carded, Ethiopia gets a free kick

Can they score now?

Finishing much to be desired for Team Ethiopia. Many opportunities wasted specially in the first 30 minutes.

Alain Traoré just did it again with a magnificent goal, Ethiopia down by 2.

Over for Ethiopia, Kone scored the third goal for Burkina. Very unlikely Ethiopia can pull it over now with just 10 minutes and injury time.

It was a convincing win Burkina 4 Ethiopia nil. Game over, next up Nigeria. Ethiopians fans disappointed

Ethiopia will recover as usual and might be a draw again even a win for Ethiopia.

They are playing foul and the reefer is not showing cards.

Instead of loosing 1 to nothing they forgot who they are and try to push forward too many players to score a goal and ended up letting 3 goals to be scored by 10 players. This is purely the head coaches dumbness. He should know the capability of his team and just be content with 1 zero and not to change the game plan. Losing 1 to zero would have possibly allow them to move to the next round if BF beats Zambia and or Zambia beats Nigeria. In that case there will be three teams with one lose and the lowest scored lose will win. After that the sudden death round any thing can happen.

Sad, but it is not over yet. They have come a long way. Bright future ahead. BUT, HORRIBLR, HORIBLE coaching. You simply can not use up all your substitutes in that short span of time. I know one was injured. He should have saved up one striking sub knowing he was down one nil. Where is the kid from the US? Could have paired him up with Salhadin, and should have gone for the kill knowing the other guys were down a man. But, that is just my exasperated opinion. Ok, on the menu tonight, HUMBLE PIE.

So, we are back to reality. We are not that good and depend heavily on Adane's leadership to succeed. So many mistakes that it is hard to list them all.

- why not put Fuad or Yusuf for more pace and finishing abilities?
- Losing 1-0 vs. 4-0, does the manager know the difference?
- Shimeles (and others) if you waste an opportunity, it may never come back to you
- overall no leadership, initiative, fighting spirit from any of the players
- how can 6 of the 11 today be players who did not start last match? (Adane and Asrat sub'ed)
- where was the crowd support tonight?
- #17 Seyoum had another terrible match. He is lucky he did not get red carded for his stupid act of stepping on a player that is down.
- I highly believe in this: WIN, LOSE, DRAW with RESPECT, CLASS and DIGNITY. I did not see that tonight, what a shame.

In short, we got our A$S handed over tonight. The bubble has burst, let's ALL learn from it.

We got Trashed, big time! Makes me wonder whose goalie was red carded. From the Burknabe's successive three goals after the sent off, it sure seemed we were playing man down, like without a goalie. What was that? How could a team that has fought and picked a point with ten men against 11 allows 3 goals when the players count is in its favor? What an irony! The last two goals were built out of our ball give away in the defense and midfield line. Even the first goal was a result of Sala's give away in the other end. The team didn't recover from the psychological shock following Adane's injury at the beginning. After the sensational player's tearful exist from the game, the team didn't look like the same. They were wingless, legless, and lifeless. It was as if, some magical force has sipped out the team's energy and give it all for the Burknabes. To add salt to the injury, the substitutions the couch elected were ineffective. I don't understand why couch Sewunet isn't using the Service of Yusuf and Alula. The number 17 and 9 have been given chances more than they can handle. All in all, as i have feared, our team has over estimated its ability while massively underestimating the opponent. They started over confident, and later couldn't recover from the compounded effect of the misfortunes and many mistakes that have started with the couch's selection of players for the lineup. Ufffaaaa

This was really a part of the visionary leader's (Meles') dream. This guys were around 0-5 years old when Woyanne took power and were eating trash food, may be, once or twice daily while growing up. The result was tremendous love and skill for soccer with no size, strength and stature to match it. Look how tall and strong the others are with less soccer skill. I was amazed with the game the Ethiopian side played with Zambia. It looked as I was watching Arsenal. Reason: Skill but no body size and stength as with Arsenal compared with their peers. Today, the skill is gone with that same body issues. They were playing around their own goal area with unwarranted confidence, and that gave the other team an easy steal and score.
Finally the best future lies in dumping Meles' dream of hunger and malnutrition and feeding select kids at very early age for proper body development in size and strength. Then, add the necessary training skill while growing up as a youth league into national star.

Physically we are not where we need to be, skill wise also they are finally getting to understand soccer is a group effort and a passing game they at times look amateurish.

If they want to play soccer and compete at they high level, then they need to spend a lot of time lifting weight for their legs and strengthening them. The rest will will follow. They already have an advantage in the name of 'stamina'.

Somebody need to open a gym for them and hire a trainer strictly for leg strength. Without that I am afraid we will not go father than this.

We lost big time! Sewinet made a really bad decision. He should have allowed them to play our traditional short ball. He demanded long ball and as a result allowed Burkina Faso to dominate the entire game. He should have allowed Saleh to play. Any way it is our first experience after a long absence and let's hope that our final game will be better.

P.S. It is not over yet. We still have a chance to advance to quarter final.

It is pathetic to expect win from the Ethiopian team because they are not fit or prepared enough to challenge any team in this tournament. We got lucky on the first game against Zambia to draw because of their lack of finishing. But with Burkina Faso no chance at all. I think Ethiopia should stay away from Soccer until we figure out and fully understand how this game is played also build stamina and quickness which we lack. Everyone should take it easy. This should not be a surprise since we couldn't match the strength and the talent of the opposing team. On the final note we should focus on running which by the way is our strength.

My two cents observation. The Ethiopian National team needs to drop this excessive passing game, it did not even work for Brazil, remeber the selecao style of the 80's Brazilian team? Someone in the mid field has to dribble the ball to open up space.
Subs were ineffective, needed to put in strikers Yusuf, Okuri or Saleh.

Luck of consistency and physic were the problems throughout the game. There is no excuse for their embarrassing performance especially in the 2nd half. However, they played a fine soccer, in many occasions their penetration was explosive. May be not this time but Ethiopia should not wait another 30 years … to show up on CAF … the show must go on … Regardless of the outcome I am very PROUD!!

Dear Asmarino –

You are a typical poster boy/girl for the original Eritrean mentality. Your sight is completely blocked by your obsession. Good observation! I was wondering myself why the long passing is necessary and hoping they will be back swinging on second half. Boy.. was I wrong? Seeing how effective they were with Zambia the coach should have left the strategy alone. BF was physically dominant & you could see our team was having hard time to defend them once they penetrated beyond the half field. As far as ball possession goes I still think our team did a marvelous job, too bad it wasn’t translated in to goals.

Come Tuesday, we will see what the team really made of.

Will it rise out of the pit the Burkinabes pushed and buried it into? Will it come prepared to fight harder, smarter and wiser? Will it come with resilience to earn the win? Will the team avoid putting the carriage before the horse and battle for victory or respectable defeat?

It is said, greatness lies in the ability to rise from one's failure or defeat.

Despite the number of goals we have allowed, the defense line showed improvement from the last game with the exception of number 17 and one horrendous dribbling attempt by Degu, i think, that leads to a goal. Everything else was a disaster, which says a lot about the couching stuff regarding its ability to analyze a game and better prepare the players for the next outing. The key for the next game would be accepting defeat, acknowledging mistake, take responsibility, and design ways to eliminate them and improve the performance of the team. Every player who gets the call to represent this great country should give it all and play at maximum capacity.

No more pregame empty bravado. It is mighty Nigeria, a team that matches the physicality of the Burkinabes with an exceeding skill, we will face in the next game. With or without Adane, we should win that game and salvage a positive note out of this tournament. Achieving that demands selecting the right group of players to start the game. The speedy and skillful Yusuf must be given the chance to play. Alula should be inserted at the back instead of number 17. Bench number 9, which was totally ineffective in every minutes of the two games, and let Faud and Umed get their chances.

Very hard to win against Nigeria but it wont be 4-0, maybe 2-1. we play ok against big team, Nigerians are not good at scoring, but the big chance gone for us, if we had drawn against Burkinafeso that would have boosted our chance. We are on our way home. This is a learning process for us after 30 years absent. The positive side is our boys can play short balls but executing the ball in the back of the net needs good team work, the defense is messy, Degu panics, syoum bad temper, I thought the little Shimeles played good. One thing is clear our fans are hungry for football, which means football will grow more than ever, youngsters will come up, in 5 years we will be among the top ten African football teams.

Oh, well, it is just soccer game! You win some, you lose some. Nothing unseen before & the game is not over yet. They still have chance to come back & play well. I mean, they played great initially so it was in a way the long ball stuff that let them down! We wish them nothing but success.

@ Asmarino

I would zip it if I were you, clown. At least, our players are playing? You team run the hell away & rumor has it that they are cookin' & cleanin' the respective qualified teams camps in South Africa after being granted political asylum there.

Yetekeberu Fitawrari Free,
Greetings. I like your comment, but are you not being a bit too harsh on these Davids who almost trounced these gangsters Goliaths? Almost all great national teams get smashed by tiny amateurish teams from nations where the game hardly exists; so there you are, the Wallias did almost that. One should take into consideration, at least, the unexpected finess and athleticism they brought into this, once beautiful but now turned into a tasteless wrestling match. They played fantastic against a top professional team, showed courage and speed, team work, and a grasp of total football that once almost brought the Dutch to snatch the world cup from the tedious labourors, the Greman team. All they did should make us all happy. Football is ressurecting in our old Abyssinia. Am I right?
To conclude...Hi AP, Hi Warrior Queen, I am back!! ..and not to forget...Wehe Warihu to our "football expert" from Sodo, Addis Zemmen, whose ex-mushetit recently got married to a rich merchant from Butajira.Sorry to bring this news for you, Ato Addis Zemen.

It is a sporting contest. One wins the other loses, it is the way therefore we should be happy for BF and empathize with the ETH. We can not bring the problems of the Ethiopian races of north and south into every situation. This is not war of words between Ethiopians. This is not war, and everything that has to do with us does not have to end in hate and warmongering.

Les enjoy the football games, win or lose.

1. Khat was not available in South Africa therefore these Khat addicts could not get their act together.

2. When a goal kepper can jump high enouph and hit his opponent on his chest, he must have forgotten he is not playing on the streets of Addis.

3. We love to wear/wave the flag but we are not willing to die for it. Bunch of loosers.

4. Every team has a strategy when playinng against a professional team. What was the strategy of the team or even the coach? To get on the field and hope things will work out? WRONG!!! When you are the underdog, you should play a good defense, Stupid.

Not too bad. It is part of the suceess. Team Ethiopia was disorganized. But in general they played good. Walias are the future Team of Africa and Europe. Many european clubs have shown interest to hire ethiopain footballers.

I think the circumstances are against our team. The fact thet Ethiopia had to pay penality for fan disturbance demoralized the team and the supporters. This should not have been. They should have warned Ethiopia to discipline the supporters. I think there is some dirty trick behind all these.

Ethiopia's goalkeeper should not have been banned. It seems they are hard against Ethiopia. Team Ethiopia should show more discipline and play the next match better and we are sure they can.

In my opinion, goal keeper was not good! Defense were also open and very weak! In general; for some kinds of reason the Ethiopian national soccer team did not play at all. Why? Only god knows! I saw when defender of Ethiopia scared and opened the way for the stricken .....then he kiked the ball and scored the goal. The goal keeper could saved the goal....seemed that was not interested to save it. Other goal, the goal keeper gave it back to the stricker and then he scored it.... How in the hell a national team defender scared and opened the way to let them shoot and scored. Our national soccer team of Ethiopia did not play at all !!! Reason only god knows

I think we have a bad government which has landlocked our country and given territories to Sudan. We have a government that is giving away our fertile land to foreigners. We have government where eritreans decide for us as ministers. These facts play a big role in us being heard in the international community. Every country looks upon ethiopias because of a traior government. Some are demanding to move the African Union from Ethiopia to Ghana or Nigeria or Uganda or Egypt because Ethiopia is a bad example for democracy and rule of law. Ethiopia has the most treacherous government in the world be it Mengistu (who gave away Djoubiti to France)> I think we should try to find our way by controling our fate ourselves.

We shoul overthrow eritrean TPLF and EPRDF with any means necessary. We should make it happen and not wait until somebody comes to liberate us from the tyranni we are under.

Nearly 12 hours after the NT got massacred by Burkinafos, the anger & disappointment fade away. The realty begins t sink in.

Sad to say, but our opponents deserved to win if not by 4 goal difference. We were more spectators than plyers. The BF controlled the game shortly after the first dangerous incurssions past the last defense by Walyas. That could have been the game changer.
Apart from that our opponents pretty much run the show. Physically we were not a match to them. Our players simply couldn't up their game and were not given much space by BF.It's like featherweight boxer challenging heavy weight. We should start eating 1 kilo "Fou Fou for breakfast".
The midfield was non-existant, the defense was scattered and didn't seem to sync with each other. The two goals could have been avoided easily.

All in all it was a disaster & now it takes more prayer than skill to win the mattch against Nigeria.

On another note, AZ is conspicuously a no-show.

The Walia Antelopes has everything to beat any team in the AFCON.

No coach bench players like Alula Girma, Yusuf Selah, Fuad Ibrahim and Omad Okri only Sewnet Bishaw. His selection is based not on talent.

He played the same type of game he played against Zambia. He could have changed the whole game and he have everything in his disposal to do so. If he don't go to cover his mistakes and if he put those player he benched so far we will see what was the real potential of the Walia Antelopes in the next game. He never used the full capacity of the boys under his command.

Now we know Fikru Tefera was right about Coach Sewnet.

Every nation has own quality including in Sport.

Ethiopia is representing Africa in athletics including by being the first African nation has won marathon Gold medal (4 in total). Ethiopia is the African athletic representative in the world including in 2007 world championship finished on 3rd place in the world.

So, football is not her thing but she is not as bad but playing the best type of games not accustomed in hard playing and being dishonest including intentionally killing the time black African football but Latin America, Asia and Europe. The Africans that seem are good in football never ever reached even to a semi final let alone final or winning the cup.

So, Ethiopia deserves admiration and respect playing such nice football despite not winning the much knowing the nation is an athletic nation representing Africa for years in the world arena.

Every one agrees that Ethiopians are playing teh best quality and diciplined fotball where very few africans can do that but in Latin America, Europe and Asia-Far east including Japan and china. Big respect to the Ethiopian players, coach and fans.

Keep running and leave the soccer to other Africans. You need a generation of soccer training and investment before getting back to your glory days in soccer. Don't buy into the hype. Be patient, keep encouraging young boys and girls to play soccer. Demand your government and private sector to invest more on athletics and in the end Ethiopia will once again be a true contender in the African and world soccer arena.
Till then be proud with your excellent long distance runners.

Please do not give decent Eritreans a bad name. I am certain they are ashamed that you call yourself an Eritrean. I know both Ethiopian and Eritrean people here in DC and they are hard working cool people and get along fine with each other and other Africans. Thanks to our developing economy, stablity, and freedom, Ethiopians were able to travel in large numbers to cheer for their beloved national team.
Ethiopians' colourful presence for sure made the event more festive and atrractive.
South Africans have never expected their venue to be so festive. More than 30,000 Ethiopians, some from back home and some who live in SA, showed the world, in the near future we will be everywhere in all kinds of occasions, showing our beautiful happy faces. Be it in sports, film industry, art and fashion shows, as well as trade and business expos.
This was only a sample.
Our team on this particular match didn't have the much expected intensity which we saw against the Zambians. They looked a little bit frail and disorganized. We cannot speculate what would've happend if the coach had different players in a certain position or vise versa, it is the nature of team sport which makes it difficult for us not to be judges from our sofa. Well, I wish Jemal didn't commit that foul, that incident by itself might have chnged the whole scenario. But in a second thought, who knows? That reminds me of the analogy of, a small boy who was crying about his lost 10 cents. A man approached the child and asked why he was crying, and the boy said, I lost my 10 cents. Oh, no problem, said the man and gave the child 10 cents and told the child, it is ok now go home. But the child started crying again even more. Then the man turned back, hey I gave you 10 cents, why are you crying? And the boy said, if I didn't lose my ten cents, I would've 20 cents.
Yea, the past is passed. We cannot contemplate nor speculate. Just move on! We have a lot to celebrate!

AP,...
That's why I missed you a lot. You're the only one who dig my sense of humor.

After all, it was a fine effort! Given all of our football days were playing the gave in a not greater than 6000 sqf field; to play such full scale professional game comes with challenges. We don't simply know how to play "long distance" passing game. This is not 6000 sqf field.............. For football to flurish in Ethiopia, the hegemony of "street football, or call it psudo Brazilian style" should change. The coach needs a coach. Change of style is highly needed. It was a fun game, i enjoyed it. But it would not bring the wancha! Get a new coach, learn new style to add to your existing one, then no one will catch you... you will run like a reall Walya.

You know why Ethiopian team lost? because of their coach Sewent's mentality who thinks like you and Assta (the surrogate of nazret).
You criticized Sala (you hate to say Saladin).
Your narrow minded feudal remnant see Ethiopiawinet only for his tribe and his religion followers. Saladin exceeds all of the player by 10 folds otherwise he will not be in the team because of his religion.
Ibrahim and Saleh did not play for the reason mentioned above.

So what is the solution for this backward, fanatic coptic controlled country. Peaceful divorce. East and South should divorce the North and then will see peace in the horn of Africa.
You will never see justice, equality and freedom of religion with you guys as Ethiopia remains together. Only God knows if Amhara/Tigray will become secular. It's a dream in the air.

If Ethiopia beat Nigeria can get 4 points, and If Burkina Faso draws or win Zambia Ethiopia comfortably move to the next round. If Coach Sewnet come to his sense and start to think for the national team and put the right people like Omad, Fuad, Alula and Yusuf it is possible Ethiopia to beat Nigeria.

I am sure Ethiopia can beat Nigeria if the Coach stop his stupidity.
01/26/13 @ 12:03
Comment from: danny [Visitor]
That defense is attrotious. Ethiopia got killed leading 11-10 men. How the stupid defenders dont know how to play elementary soccer is beyond me.
Yusuf salah
Alula
Umid ukri
Sisay as a goalie who can play.

Maybe Fikru tifera was correct. The coach is an idiot. He subs the only midfielder playing good shemeliss and brings in #3, kebede who cant play and some other scrub. NO YUSUF salah a pro who can run all day, no umid ukri, they played longball against a strong and atheltic team,

I dont know where to start. First fire that coach, replace the goalie, replace some defenders and maybe put a sweeper in there. Play SALAH, Faud and ukri and maybe you have a chance. Those defenders need to stop playing like sissies. Very disapointed and upset at the team. A miracle necessary for nigeria.

First of all the Ethiopians have qualified after 31 years and their first game performance was not bad.
we shouldn't be caught in our emotion after their disastrous performance in their second game against Burkina Faso.By the way, a win against Nigeria and a tie or a Zambia loss in the other game will see them through even though it is not going to happen realistically.
Secondly, I know many Eritreans who were rooting for an Ethiopian side.

Let's stop politics and really have a civil discussion on how the Ethiopian Football Federation needs to be transformed from the way how they operate now.

1)Youth clubs from early age
2)A lot of playing field. The government really should really involve in this matter to reform the Zoning policy in Addisababa and all other cities and towns.
3)A complete diet change. The Injera is not working and we saw its effect last Friday.
4)Players need to play in another league. We are going in the right direction as observed over the last few years.

Better yet you brag about buying Dreamliner whilst your people is starving not my opinion but Proven fact. We, eri, still hanging there despite food shortage but we don't scream for help from ferenj. "Your narrow minded feudal remnant see Ethiopiawinet only for his tribe and his religion followers."

I do agree with you that the reason why we lost for Burinabe is the stupidity of the coach, Fikru Tefera had warned us in advance about this man's mentality, for me there is something seriously wrong with this Coach but not for the reasons you stated: religion. Alula Girma is Amhara from Addis Ababa, Omad Okori is from Gambella and they are not Muslims, Yusuf Selah is from Tigray and Fuad Ibrahim is Oromo, your division South/North is incorrect, actually many of the players are from South.

Master Favioli, it is good to have you back. I hope u had an excellent vacation back home. I don't know which part of the country you have visited beside Sodo, but the Walyas are not from a nation "football hardly exists". To the contrary, they are from a country that helped pioneer the very tournament we are participating at the moment. Football exists everywhere in Ethiopia and no other sport is as prominent as it is in the country. It is almost what every boy plays in his neighborhood and school yards. The thousands of passionate fans who have traveled to support the team itself is a testimony to the sport's undisputed prevalence in the country. With that said, I understand winning and losing are part of any game. What is disappointing in this case is the way we lost the game. It is the complete melt down of the team to the degree of allowing a ten man squad to score three goals in less than thirty minutes that disappointed me most. They had the advantage in terms of skill, the support of many passionate fans, the momentum from the Zambia game and even the good fortune of having a friendly referee. They squandered all that and lost for a team whose only advantage against us is physical strength, which btw is not that much important to win a game as Barcelona and the Spanish national team demonstrated repeatedly in the past few years. Skill and endurance, qualities our players posses, take prominence over physical size to win a football game. Therefore, there is no excuse for the complete collapse that was witnessed in the team. If there were a David in that game, it was the one that has scored three with ten men and effectively silenced thousands of boisterous fans. Lets just hope, this wont happen again on Tuesday.

extra, come on man. You sound unreasonably very emotional. I know the couch is as responsible as the players both for the success and failure of the team, but he does not deserve the name calling from any of us including the retard Fikru Tefera. If anything, in the past thirty years, he is the only man who built and managed a successful team that is able to reach to the stage we are basking at right now. Be mindful, grateful and respectful of that. We all want victory, and hate the bitter defeat yesterday, but that does not justify any name calling against any of the couching staff and players.

I wonder what you are doing here at an Ethiopian site. I have seen many vile commens from you today, you must have a very sad exitence. It may make you happy to hear that the Eritrean referees have done a very good job.
As to the game yesterday; I could not understand why both our players and the fans in the stadium have given up the game too early. Once again Saladin Said was the best player in the field, but he was all by himself up front. This is not to diminish the exceptional individual quality of the Burkinas (especially Pitroipa and Bance).

All the excitment and high expectation is understandable, whether it is from the fans, the coachs, and the players.
After we finish this tournament, whatever the out come is, the players and the coaches have a great task at hand to make it to the world cup. They've a great chance with a possiblity of participating for the first time in world cup in Brazil. Imagine what would happen when that moment arrive for Ethiopia!

In a way you are right, over 95% of those spectators are South African and neighboring countries residents/refugees who run the hell away from GOE? You should visit SA if you haven't done so already? One of the biggest challenge of discussing online with Disaspora is that they have very little knowldge of the reality on the ground.

Coach Sewnet was revenging and nursing his individual interest at the cost of our country. He is out there to proof himself not the players. The reason why he don't use certain category of players have everything to do with his behavioral with individuals and teams back home. He is not qualified to stand as a commander of an 80 Million peoples coach. He needs managerial and administrative maturity and education to overcome his ego and temper.

He killed Walia Antelopes, and the dream of this great nation.

I ADVICE COACH SEWNET TO REMAIN IN SOUTH AFRICA, THE ETHIOPIAN PEOPLE WILL MAKE HIM ACCOUNTABLE BY THEMSELVES IF HE COME BACK. RIGHT NOW ANGER IS BUILDING AGAINST HIM THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY AND MAYBE HE CAN RESIGN TO SAVE HIMSELF.

It is possible as a foul of politics might be behind the team composition. Though it is difficult to give a conclusive remark whether the coach or the team composition have brought to such lose to Burikina, it will be better to compose the national football committee(to form team players based on their ability without a biased) from various ethinicity and religious background: Amhara, Oromo, Tigre, etc. This apprach may improve atittudes and confidence of the team players, and most importantly to form the team player based on their capacity, and may finally produce good results for the country.

Fuad? why was he saving players on the bench as if saving account? he made a lot of changes but the wrong changes, the defense is rubbish, i saw Saladean rushing back to help the defense. apart from football skills they need psychological coaching, its not all about physical strength,. the defense shouldn't panic no matter what, they surrounded one player opening gap elsewhere. we still have tinny chance against Nigeria, if we can hold on 0-0 draw would be excellent. we have proved we can play even international commentators had said we were the better side against Burknafes in terms of football skills, infact some commentators had predicted we were the dark horse of the tournament until the last match we lost very badly 4-0 against Burkina really embarrassing. my african friends making joke of me lol i told them enatkhin tibd*t lol

It was only until recently that China, who've had numerous of famines throughout its history, were able to feed its population. The death toll during the last great famine (58-61) is estimated, modestly, to at least 45 million + deaths. China today as you know is a superpower, in addition to being a giant in most sports.

Longs story short. And all believe making a "HERO" out of nothing. The reception given to tamagne in SA, and the glorifieng of abebe gelebaw here in the US, as a "HERO", remands me of the saying "saygadlu goffere, sayaregagittu wore." It is possible a coach to exclude one or two players without regard of their talent for other reasons. The real question was not Fikru Tefera, what brought Fikru to surface is the exclusion of some of Ethiopia's dynamic players like Yusuf, Umad, Alula and Fuad and the resultant defeat by BF. The world is shocked to see the dramatic contrast between the two games in between few days difference. I really do respect Coach Sewnet he is the one who brought the team to this level but he failed us in the BF match. He should have changed the tactic and the players on the second match. It is said Adane Girma covered the maximum distance level of a professional player should cover per match when we played with Zambia and Coach Sewnet should have put that in consideration and put new force and new tactic on the second. The point is he have the tactic and the players in his disposal. He have shown us that in the friendly with Tanzania. He is the one who show us what the Walia Antelopes can do but he didn't apply it when we are badly in need of it.

Is Burkina Faso stronger than Zambia? No. Then what happen?

Come on now! You completely took this discussion away from topic! Be reasonable. First of, don't you know, there are countless folks who were CORE parts of Derg regime but now core parts of GOE i.e. politicians, Ambassadors, business folks etc etc? I saw the list not too long ago? If you want to know them all, I can dig 'em out for you? You can not have one rule for certain folks, and another for different people. It seems like you are saying, oh, if certain folks were part of Derg but now, GOE's bootlickers, it is fine. However, if they were Derg & are not clowning with GOE now, they are enemy #1? Too childish, retarded if you ask me. That makes you folks appear too hypocritical, silly.

Secondly, as far as I am aware, Tamagn was NOT part of Derg in any way. He was just a stage persona just like the new GOE clown aka Neway Debebe? Hello! He didn't hold any position, didn't kill a single human being, didn't loot and disgrace his nation like current ones? Hello! :) I watched Tamagn's response video to this accusation, seems like all that is Weyane fabricated BS.

Lastly, as far as I am aware, Tamagn is not a politician. People like Tamagn are called activists. There is a huge difference. He is not campaigning to become a leader or politician of any sort, he said it himself. That said, even if he was, what is your problem? Education level, right? As if we don't have 4th grader jungle buddies allover GOE?

Lets reason with 21st century mindset plz! It simply does not work like that. He has every right to be, to hold certain views, to oppose, to scream to do whatever the hell he likes as long as he is not a criminal, killer, thief, disgrace ...

...also

Leaving your hatched up post and disjointed ramblings aside for a second I'd like to take the oppurtunity to remind you and other worthless Erishitrean vultures (who're equally desperate to forget the mess back home by reading & blabbering about our loss) that Ethiopia have played two matches at the African cup of Nations - after decades of absence from the international arena. In the first one, when you wicked ppl were grinding your green teeth's out of envy, we nearly mauled the reigning champions, but managed only a draw due to factors that can be summarized as inexperience. In the second, as could be seen last Friday, we were, yes trounced, instead of only defeated, also due to the above mentioned inexperience. Burkina Faso, despite their goalie being sent off, executed their game beautifully. Kudos to them!

Success in modern football requires other than facilities, the right diet etc., also, and perhaps most important: the above mentioned 'experience.' That is something all the players in Burkina Faso possess, being professional players in foreign clubs with resources, and at that, from early age as many of them practically grew up in France. Long story short: inexperience leads to mistakes and when you commit mistakes in modern football you'll be mercilessly punished no matter if you happen to run the game. That is exactly what happened to our team. That said, even experienced teams makes mistakes. Germany e.g. thrashed The mighty Argentinians, with a star filled line up at that, with 4-0 during World Cup in South Africa. Yeah, Messi, Tevez, Aguero and co was playing! The Wahabis, also being your nr.1 place for hand outs, Saudi Arabia, (that kindly gave Eritrea the infamous sick sheep's of shame, yack) despite its ultra modern stadiums, tons of money and star filled league, lost a match with 8, eight goals to zero at the World Cup in South Korea ...The list goes on and on.

I know that gloating at Ethiopia's failure whatever that means is the very foundation and principle of al-Sheabia aka Erishitrean patriotism. That's fine! As I wrote earlier you are obsolete and at that a laughing stock as you've almost lost the fake idnPESTnence that was given to you by TPLF.

What is important is that OUR BEAUTIFUL Ethiopia have managed to show ourselves and the world that we have not only talent, but exceptional mad ass football skills that, given its natured, which is happening with money and expertise pouring in, will lead us to a bright future. Basicaly we're marching forward

That cannot unfortunately not be said about you & your teams knowing that your Red Sea Boys who're currently seeking asylum in droves, are being replaced with Sawa recruits who in turn will soon make use of their sandal cloted feets by running towards Sinai, Shimbela Camp, The Red Sea, Malta and other places. AP,...

You seem trying to legitimise and glorify that brutal dergue regime.
It doesn't matter for anyone whether they were part of the dergue or victims of it. The main important point these days should be, that if we have learned from history, condemning the brutality and unnecesary killings which took us 50 years back in everyway we look at it, and making sure never to repeat that same cruel system.
What I see in the camps of the hopeless ESAT and it's supporters alike is, a blinded hatefull campain intended only to discredit the current regime, with what ever it takes, including glorifying and making an angel out of the devil. Wishing the reincarnation of that same devilish system.
Ethiopia these days as we see it is in a different level. For me as a victim of the dergue regime being robbed of my youth as a teenager, can never fogive that backward system which destroyed the whole young generation of my time, and wouldn't wish to see it again in any scenario.
But for the losers here in the west, it is not about the people of Ethiopia or for the better of the country. As long as they can dehumanize and discredit our govt and grab our attention, they wouldn't mind using anything which is against Ethiopia, which btw seen practically these FOOLS & IDIOTS supporting our enemies like alshebab, shabia, muslim extrimism, etc...

Asmarino, Tesfa and all you haters.

So what we lost the game? Don't you know that in sport there is wining and loosing? At least our team is proud of representing their country . Whether they win or loose they are taking part in the African cup with unity side by side with their African brothers. Where is your team? Who is representing Eritrea? OH Excuse me, Eritrea who? There is absolutely nothing going on your side of the country, you are looking over to Ethiopia for excitement. Sorry you are disappointed. But to us our team is our pride. whether they win or loose, we are proud of them and we support them.

Ms.TEDDY,

U said ms.Tamagne is activist... Okay but he lived in America for more then 20 years did he go to American collage to upgrade his knowledge? If u want to be activist about health then he have to be very knowledgable about Heath it will be preferable it u were a health doctor... If u want to be enovernment activist then it will help if u are a scientist... If u are worried about whales then it will help if u r biologist

So in our beloved ms Tamagne case u could have study about political science while she stayed in America for last 20+ years...

In Ethiopia anyone can be politican we think to be a politican u don't need education... In America most of politican have law degree or they are very succufill in what they do in business in law etc... Yes there are very few exception anyhow ms Tamagne is u like it or not one illiterate who want glorified by poor South African Ethiopia who doesn't know better... If ms Tamagne accused of Meles image become cult then why he does the same thing? Who cover his expenses? Even if those Ethiopian in South Africa cover the expense that is our money wasted unwisely... Now if ms Tamagne acting like king before she become king then what would u think she will do if she replace hailemariam desalegn..

One positive thing about ESAT... Unlike AZ, I think ESAT is very successful history of the opposition... Their online radio is solid rock they are much better then400, million dollar VOA online that crash every second... ESAT show what the opp. Cando when they are united for good instead of evil...as u know I believe God send Meles to save Ethiopia from people like u but I don't believe in destroying the opposition... In fact I want very strong opposition that exposed the TPLF weakness in short Esat show that but when it come to the news and information dismantling they still spreading hate....but that doesn't mean their organization is not successful.. This show if the opposition united for good they can do miracle

Let me give u some example just like ESAT, if opposition started modern farming co- operation and collected million and start farming, milk production, teff production, hen farming in fact by now we will have billion dollar investment...to those who say it is impossible I say look ESAT, look sport federation this is very few example I know that the opp. Successful ....the more economy power u have the more political power u will have....if the opp. Have billion dollar company then even if the Ethiopia government refused them they can invest in any Africa country and challenge al Amoudi.... This much I will say because I know this is very hight level thinking... For Amhara prances who is thinking to be a king but never happened because just like in England the queen is a live and kicking... I feel sorry for those prances who are waiting her Mather queen to die so that they can be a queen or a king.

Ash ,for your Information Tamagne never presented himself as a scholar ,of course as an artist using his skills to serve his peoples by denouncing an evil Tyrant's Regime surviving on the suffering of the Ethiopian Peoples .No need to go to Havard ,Princeton or George Town to understand on the evil Ideology of Hates and Tyranni Rule of your Agazi Bros and masters .And being an Economist ,to find out on the Ethno Mafia Looting Firm institued by the evil widow and the Tigre Mafiosis .Of course Nothing is Impossible to cocretise social and economic miracle in the country ,but the main threats are from your own Agazi Bandits blocking any valuable initiative . By the way SLUTY Ashish it's a waste of time using such childish game by calling those who do not share your point of view as Ms ;nothing is as worst than being an Agazi WORE as you are practicing here for the sake of your bandit masters ...LOL !!!!!By the way if you are suffering of a COMPLEX OF INFERIORITY vis à vis of Tamagne Beyene why don't you call your Mistress Azeb or the Sheraton Sheik to send you money and even raise bonds from your Agazi Bros to play the Azeb Mesfin Apostle with the blessing of the Pente Master Aba HMD...LOL !!!!

OneL,

Of the 3000 years of Ethiopian freedom, the province of baher negash enjoyed 2918 of it as a province of Eth, 61 with their euro masters and 21 of it in hell with IsayASS. The only history of the now called Eritrea, the province of Ethiopia, is the 2918 years of freedom as an Ethiopian province. No matter how you want to redress it, you are still the same shit. Get it?

OneL go fak yourself over to Asmerino.com. Why do you like hanging around Ethiopians, your masters?

3000 year of what? Freedom? Hailesalassie, Mengistu, now Woyane recent colonizers within.....outsiders once conquered by Italy and occupied by that nation from 1936 until 1941 and incorporated into Italian East Africa with Eritrea and Somalia.

Football:
Every Sunday Asmara stadium was a battle ground among the local teams and teams representing the Ethiopian army and police. And yet outstanding teams like the Red Sea and Cipolini were emerging out of the intense situation. Again there were Eritrean players like Tesfamichael Dagnew, Hadish Abera (koreri), Tefera Ghebrekrstos, Amanuel Iyasu, Negash Teklit, Yohannes Zemichael, and others. These players like their country men in the 60s and 70s were the back bone of the Ethiopian national team.

Ms.Tamagne, is a doctor because even a his family doctor ask him where it hurt...

Ms.Tamagne is An economist because ms. Tamagne know teff cost $40 birr now $1500 birr so we don't need economist to know the dollars were two birr today almost 18 birr we don't need economist to tell us that we know what it mean inflation

Why we need a nurse to inject needle... Ms. Tamagne handle needle every well he fix his torn cloth using needle so how hard. It would be to inject needle..

Ms.Tamagne succeeded in America without education the why we need education it is waste of time...

Realty check yes the doctor might need ms. Tamagne help to get information where ms.Tamagne feel pain but to fix the pain we need real doctor... Ms.Tamagne knowledge stop where his pain is after that we need a real doctor.

Economics anyone can tell us teff cost today 1500 birr then 40 birr... But not ms.Tamagne but the economist can suggest policy that can fix inflation

Otherwise even mengistu haile mariam try to fix the economy by killing and jailing... He kept the price low... Rent was 8 birr the whole one track cement cost were 400 birr today only one 100kg cost 400 birr so mengistu haile mariam was doing well without being an economist....

Why we need weatherman all we have to do is come out and check if it rain or not.

The point of our discussion here is NOT the Derg regime. The main point here is ((Tamagn Beyene NEVER BEING PART of Derg regime))! If you say he was, prove it!

The other point is how do you judge Derg in comparison to TPLF? I know two wrongs don't make right but TPLF/Weyane are as despicable, brutal, genocidal, totalitarian, dictatorial, disgraceful, looting killers even worse than Derg! Also TPLFs with their clowns EPLF took the nation 50 years behind by destroying infrastructures, looting banks & property of the nation to & from Assab Port, civil wars, killing, kidnapping, collaborating with Arabs & all sorts of external elements etc etc.

So Personally, I see Derg & TPLF with the same eyes? Their only difference is Derg was not an apartheid regime & GOE now has so called free economy, unlike Derg's retarded communism? Other than that, what is the difference in terms of atrocities, totalitarianism? Who is overcrowding, languishing in Kaliti now? Who is practically starving? Who is NOT being massacred under TPLF? Gambella, Afar, Amhara, Oromos, Somalis & whatnot? Which country is chasing out its own citizens in their millions as we speak? Making citizens Destitute refugees, asylum seekers? Fleeing like flies, dying in the process? Whose citizens are synonymous with house maids, orphans now? You need to stop being pathological liar, hypocritical.

Amhara Princess, u know I Love u... I no hate for u but respect...

What u r say only make sense from where u stand....

al qaeda to an American can say what u say about TPLF... The American also say the same thing about al qaeda beeing terrorist it is endless cycle...

In finial analysis it doesn't matter who is terrorist or who is freedom fight the finial saying goes to the winer in this case the America have upper hand so to TPLF... If the Nazi had won the second war then the American would be the terrorist do u get my point u have to win to set in judge set...

In case of TPLF if ur father Derg then the TPLF would be called terrorist and they would have been jail and make pay for all crime they commit..

I don't know how in hell I should make u understand TPLF win the lottery and hit the joke pot now what is the use swaying if Derg had win the joke pot...
