Ethiopia coach Sewnet Bishaw believes they must face their last encounter against Nigeria with a hunger for goals if they are to go through to the quarter-finals.

The Walya Antelopes were defeated 4-0 by 10-man Burkina Faso in their second match in Group C.

“We didn’t expect this result from the very beginning. We hoped that we would play again like the first game and take a point against Burkina Faso,” said Bishaw.

The Antelopes still have a mathematical chance of qualifying for the last eight when they play against the Super Eagles and Bishaw is determined for his side not to go out on a whimper.

He added: “We’re not going to the field to defend, because defending will only give you one point. Now we must try to play against Nigeria to score goals to have three points.

“If we get three points, in total we’ll have four, and may qualify for the next stage.

“Not only will we just score one or two goals, we need to score lots of goals, otherwise, it is a matter of dignity for our boys.”

They need to score and win the game in order to have a chance of qualifying. But that kind of play unfortunately means they'll have to attack with a lot of players and consequently be vulnerable/taking risks. Lets hope they don't forget that Nigeria is a good team with lots of seasoned & skilled players, why they must play very disciplined.

To all Ar-teran vultures I say congratulations: Your team, The Red Sea Boys, have all been granted final asylum in Malta.

The main reason with our players is a luck of commitment. The coach can not play but design the type of play for the specific games and its up to the players to play. On the first match against most powerful zambia team our players showed stamina and wisdom. with 10 players on the field they were battling zambians left and right for a draw, but when they played VS burkina faso they looked like lazy, confused, lost and disorganaized. As a fan of the WALYA-ANTELOPES i can only assume prrior to the second match our players were partying, showoff drinking and chasing the wicked womens rather than staying in a shape and focusing on the game

Whatever the next result ,we must continue our Supports to the National Team .Afterall these kids have done a great job ,even physically and technically dominated by the Burkinabese . It's just only a question of lack of more experiences .They are on a good way of being qualified on the Next Mundial . The CAF games too must be considered as on accasion for the training . Also time to spare them from unecessary critics and certainly not by strowing stones against the Coach .

They either had underestimated Burkinafaso team b/f they got in to the game and I think that was due to the fact that they were able to finish the game 1 draw 1 for ten men got them all rild up and they kind of carried away too much and forgot that they have to work even harder to win the following game, there is no need to get ahead of ourself here just focus on the moment that is what will enable you to long way remember we
are not there to win one team or one game rather we are there to bring the trophy home so do so !!

In this version AFCON history is being rewritten, North Africans are at the bottom if you want to go regional, Algeria marks the first to be knocked out followed by Morocco. While Cape Verde and Ethiopia are emerging.

I know the great Walia Antelopes will beat Nigeria, if the worst of the worst happen it is a draw, I can't see any reason why Ethiopia can't beat Nigeria.

when is the last time we won against Nigeria? none! I remember years ago when we played Nigeria in Lagos Nigerian fans threw pieces of breads in the pitch. If we beat Nigeria 1-0 it's like winning the cup. My worry is after losing very badly against Nigeria some of our team refuse to go home ask asylum in south Africa including some of the staff. Ethiopia has made strides in many areas including soccer. Our Athletics has always made us proud and now soccer is following. We are already dignified by qualifying to AFCON 2013. The game with Burkinabe was not a true reflection of our boys' skill. We have received a lot of appreciation already and that won't change whethere we win or loose against Nigeria. I am proud of being Ethiopian. God bless Ethiopia and we will surprise Nigeria and the world.

LOOK HERE GUYS, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT Ethiopian football is coming back from the shadows after 35 years of absence from african scene. We formed the African football federation, won the cup once, and set the trend for the whole of Africa to play football. Some of the countries now playing were still colonies ruled by foreigners, look where they are now.

ETHIOPIAN FOOTBALL WILL BE A PERMANENT FEATURE IN AFRICA FROM NOW ONWARDS, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.

Well the Nigerian team now is not as a strong team as we knew it before. Both games they played with Burkina Faso or Zambia were below standard. However, our team side has big problem to fix before trying to confront one of the giant team of Africa. Therefore, we can win Nigeria team if we fix these problem which I observed from the last two games, may secure to qualify for quarter final :
-it lacks a midfielder or play maker who coordinated both sides and helps to open up the defense of our opponent team.
• We do not have a good striker who can shoot to the target, not only the striker majority of the players do not meet their target unless they do short pass. Long passes usually fell on our opponent team player legs,
• Be ready ahead or come with alternate plan or change the gear of the game according to the opponent team condition or change of players’ number or style of game. When they played with Burkinafaso, Our team was good with equal number of players but when they have got one player advantage the game of our team getting worse and all the game evaluation statistics which was in favor of us was reversed .
• For our third game we need a good striker with a good play maker who can penetrate the Nigerian strong defense and as same time the style our defense has to be changed .we need to develop confidence on physical strength and sprinting ability if we do short pass in our goal area. We have to take a special precaution as we know none of our current defense players overcomes this shortage with Nigerian team.

Thanks giving us your thoughts but I think you're overlooking one crucial thing!

Modern football begins and ends with a solid defense where every player chip in and do his/her part in the defensive work. The defensive formation against Burkina Faso was bad at is best and many times terrible. Our players in the back was/are in essence really talented but tend to forget their marking, as well as be reckless with the ball, hence making wrong decisions such as trying to tiki-taka their way out of dangerous situations when they should simply get rid of the damed ball.

In regards to strikers...

We have a, not good, but awesome striker in Saladin. He's a smart player with good skills and technical ability, able to cover and hold the ball, thus enabling the midfield to move up. In addition he's got size and a good shot. With Ethiopian success or the right agent representing him I could easily see him be signed by many top-notch European clubs. Unfortunately he was most often (The Burkina spies sent out by the coaching staff did a good job) cut off and lonesome up front. Especially after Adanes injury, who've by the way is also very, very good player; even though he seems to be more of a, although versatile, natural midfielder to me. I am not sure but from what I have heard & understand we've got mad talent, stars in the making, sitting on the bench.

Win Or Lose I really Proud To be Ethiopian for believing on our own Ethiopian coach. I have no idea why Most of African teams (I can say 80%) Believe on coaches from another continent mostly white. Are they saying there is no talent in Africa to lead? Shame on them. This colonial mentality has to stop learn from Ethiopia and Nigeria and trust your own.

Every time Nigerians lose an away game they blame the pitch. They did it again at the 2013 AFCON. According to some Nigerian players, the pitch is to blame for their poor performance so far. Should they lose tomorrow I am sure they will say that the pitch was their enemy.

Some people are saying Salhadin Said's missed goal that bounced over the bar was supposed to be a goal in normal pitch, the reason it bounces over the bar is because the pitch is too dry.

Let me hope they loose and blame the pitch.

Let us face it, Burkina Faso, a very little known team beat the sh*t out of them with 10 men. I think the Super Eagles are energized and determined to score as many points as time permits. I just hope that I won't see more than 5 goals. The coach is right in that a draw won't do. They must win the game. But that will be a manumental task. But a draw will help them save face in the face of the merciless and uncivilized Woyane media and the public that expects a miracle.

Wish them good luck

Considering the terrible sate of conditions in our country, the result of the national team is very encouraging. We need to remember that these players did not have the opportunity at a young age to play with a real foot ball (cherq quase), no football fields, and balanced diet that replenish the body. They reached to this level based on their individual efforts. Football is a reflection of the stage of development a country has. Ethiopia has been poor and is still poor. Therefore, we should not expect a positive result overnight. It takes a creation of a stable government and economic devolvement. I once asked the famous Ethiopian football player Kassahun why the Ethiopian foot ball team success? He said, ‘the is not foot ball field for children too play foot ball.’ Having said this, I can see two main problems in the current team. The number one problem is defense. The defense is so pores that other teams have found a way to exploit it. Most of the defenders do not know what to do when they get the ball. The other problem is giving the hard earned ball to the opponent very easily. The latter problem is a serious issue that must be addressed for tomorrow game if the team to have any chance for winning. As the others above stated, they must replace the goal keeper with Sisaye Bancha. I heard that the reason they do not play Siasy is that his confidence is too much. I do not know what the hell that means. Let test other players so that they would gain experience.

Come on, there are many good Nigerians and majority are an all round decent people. If you are trying to make a point about Christianity it is only Nigeria who have foreign religious mission while Ethiopia got the Bible earlier and sleep on it, we didn't even took the gospel to South Sudan, forget South Sudan we even failed to spread it to western and southern Ethiopia. I have never seen dedicated religious people as Nigerians. Definitely you have never been in Nigeria or make some friends but, they are great people and human.

You are right there are many crook Nigerians but that is not all about them and are not majority. You are generalizing. Nigeria is a strong ally of Ethiopia in the continental politics, Nigerians fought fought under the British command at the end of the 5 year Italian occupation while Eritreans and Somalis were attacking us along side Italians. They are also majority flying Ethiopian Airlines than any other African country. Talk about the idiot Arabs and their b*tch fake state Eritrea if you want to bash people generally but Nigerians are our African brothers. I know many Ethiopian women who date Nigerian men and they love them. I am wondering what is the point you are trying to make.

Don't you remember Wole Soyinka, even AAU recognized his contribution and awarded him a honorary doctorate degree. The number of their great writers is unparalleled by any other African country remember.
