Chelsea striker Victor Moses vows to destroy Ethiopia, as Nigeria battles for survival

Moses vows to destroy Ethiopia, as Nigeria battles for survival

Guardian

IT is another trying moment for players and officials of the Super Eagles today as Nigeria faces Ethiopia in a make or break encounter here in Rustenburg, South Africa. It is a must win game for the Eagles if they are to remain in contention for the Nations Cup title, which Nigeria last won 19 years ago.

As the players have acknowledged, there is no room for another draw as witnessed in the last two games.

Anything short of victory for the Eagles here in Rustenburg and a win for Zambia in their game against Burkina Faso will mean Nigeria is out. The Burkinabes have four points and are topping the group. Nigeria’s opponent in today’s encounter, Ethiopia, still has the chance of qualifying from the group if the Stephen Keshi-led Eagles fail to live up to expectation.

But if the confidence expressed by players of the Super Eagles are anything to go by, the Ethiopians will be in serious trouble this afternoon.

From non-playing team captain, Joseph Yobo, to Chelsea attacker, Victor Moses, the level of optimism is very high.

The duo spoke with The Guardian at Kruger Mpumalanga International airport, and their chorus is: The Ethiopians will pay for the ‘sins’ of Burkina Faso and Zambian, who forced Nigeria to draws in two games played so far in the competition.

Yobo said: “We have no choice but to beat Ethiopia, but we are pleading with Nigerians to believe in us and continue with their support.

“I want to admit we did not play well in the game against Burkina Faso, but as you can see in our second game against Zambia, we did well. We will improve on that in the last group game on Tuesday (today) because we know that anything short of victory will not be good for us.”

On his part, Chelsea goal digger, Moses, said he would use today’s game against Ethiopia to register his name on the scorers’ chat in the Nations Cup competition.

Moses was sad that in two games for Nigeria in the 2013 AFCON, he has not been able to score a goal for Nigeria. “I am looking forward to end all that on Tuesday (today). It is very important I score a goal in this Nations Cup and we have to beat Ethiopia to clear the way. We can’t afford to drop a point in this game and I am confident we will win. All we need is the support.”

Meanwhile, Super Eagles Skipper, Joseph Yobo, yesterday came out to say that he still had a lot to offer the nation in this competition and other engagements.

He said: “I am not too old to play in the Nations Cup,” Yobo debunked the claims that he is not fit for the hassles of the competition.

According to the Turkey-based defender, “I know what I can bring to the national team, especially when the going becomes as tough as it is now.

“That I did not play the second game does not mean that the coaches have suddenly discovered that I am too old. Tactics for matches vary and I am sure I have a place in this team.

“I was injured before we came to South Africa, but I am now fully fit and ready to go.”

Apparently the Ethiopian Coach didn't make the team composition properly. Should Fuad, Yusuf, and Omar were played, there were no such loss to Burkina. Now the Nigeria saw such game and started to be boisterous.

This pompous speaking may put the Nigeria to lose. What is expected now from the Ethiopian Coach is two options: 1) continue to lose to Nigeria being fail to use those three Ethiopian players at the same time, or 2) Use those three players at the same time and win Nigeria. Under option 1 the Coach take responsibility of inaction rightfully or option 2 is the players responsibility or capacity to make or break it.

This is going to the reincarnation of the David vs Goliath fight, with Goliath conceding let say...2 goals...sssthhhhh to sons of David's 1!
May the force of David be with our national team :-)

well I have to watch this game no matter what!

I really don't like anyone who boast SO I want to see our team DEFEAT the Nigerians!!

A message to our teams:

1)Please please please no matter what the outcome, DO NOT PANIC!

2) keep THE BALL far away from our goal keeper.
Every time i see the ball rolling around our goal keeper i am close to have a heart attack! lol

Those were suggestions from "wedi adi"

Well, that may end up being the case, but how it happens counts.

For what it's worth, if I were the Sewnet Bishaw, this is the lineup I would use:

Zerihun Tadele as GK or put Sisay.

Defense:
#6 Alula Girma, we need a real right back for a change
#2 Degu
#5 Aynalem Hailu (The best defender thus far IMHO)
#4 Butako or #10 Birhanu Bogale

Midfielders:
#14 Minyahil Teshome (ask him to roam the center of the field as replacement of Asrat Megersa)
#21 Addis Hintsa as distributor. He is not very fast so may struggle against the quickness of the Nigerians, so will really have to work on ball possession
#18 Shimelis Bekele (replaces Adane, playing more on the right)
#16 Yussuf Saleh on the left - pace, crossing and finishing ability all in one package.

Forwards:
#7 Saladin Said
#13 Fuad Ibrahim

- I would tell Fuad to run like crazy for 45 min and then sub him with #9 Getaneh after the break.

- I would tell the 4 defenders to not even cross the halfway line.

- Sit back, you know Nigeria will try to jump on us from second #1, so let them. Frustrate them with a good defense, use counters effectively, don't lose ANY ball in our half, don't try to make it look cute, just go for efficiency.

Clearly, the biggest weakness is in midfield which is now decimated thanks to the hard pitch at Mbombela stadium. I hope others will step up to fill the big shoes of Adane and Asrat.

My prediction: unfortunately, we will lose and Zambia will beat Burkina Faso, so world order will be restored by this time tomorrow. I hope that I am wrong.

Joseph Yobo,
It is the Almighy God that destroys or otherwise. You do need to deafen us by blowing your trumpet.

To our players in South Africa, this dude is saying he is coming back after healing an injury. Be smart enough to give him a hard touch on his injured leg somewhere at the middle of the pitch lest a painful consequence unfolds. He will be stretchered out. Yihe guregna

Victor needs to shut the hell up! Why didn't he show his striking skills when Nigeria struggled on both their games so far? He is a big mouth. His team is battling to stay in the game despite having international players? Hello!

Go team Ethiopia! All the best.

@ Taxi D!!!

How good to see you here, Mar! Where have you been hiding? :)

@ AZ

Hahaa! Have you ever seen, smelled or tasted that little round chili that Nigerians/Caribbean folks eat? You be crying, chocking just looking at that awful Karia. Mitmita is so mild compare to that. Hopefully, we will make him eat his own words by kickin' his a$$...

I love that addis zemen. Ethiopians need to show support as well. Even if they score on us first, the fans need to keep cheering for our team. Thats what happened when we played the Burkinabes. Don't panic my people, it is soccer.

loosing adane and asrat is a blow for ethiopia but ethiopia will prepare itself now therefore should do better than it did against burkinafaso. mossess should know the field he is playing now is not as smooth as the premium league where he elegantly cuts the ball tormenting his oponnents. the ethiopians know him and how he plays and that plays in their advantage..any way what matters in a game is how well/bad most of players play in the team not one or two so if our players play as well as they did in their first game we could win.

Moses just barked and coughed out two delicious goals at the expense of your weak team. I have nothing against Ethiopians but the soccer skill that is all.

Had it not been for inexperience we've could absolutely have gained three points and qualified for the next round. That said, the better team won today why we wish our Nigerian friends the best of luck. I think you will need that as I am convinced that the Eagles will be absolutely trashed against Drogba and CO

Getting back to our Ethiopian team I have to say I am soooo proud of our boys. Champions League winner Mikels weekly wage being more that our entire squad is ludicrous having seen our players turn him into a thuggish lamp post. LOL. We definitely proved ourselves today foks. Not only to the world but most important to our countrymen back home in the Motherland. I just called back home and my family told me Addis literally stood still during the game. The same I have heard happened throughout Ethiopia. Dilla, Adwa, Arba Minch, Jijiga, Debre Mark’os and I bet every little village in our beautiful country.

Long story short, we've obviously got mad ass skills and in combination with more stadiums being built, more money pouring in as well as gaining much needed - experience we've got every chance in the world of transforming our Habesha tikitaka country into a football giant.

@ Assmarinero [Unwelcome Visitor] and other crossed eyed Ar'teran vultures. The weak ass Red Eye Boys having fled your rotten to-the-core banana republic (without the actual bananas:-) are presently seeking asylum in Malta. Yawl should be worried about that instead of scavenging anything Ethiopian. Inferiority and envy will not reverse the thirty years for nothing nor the fiasco we call idnPESTnece :-)

Duh??? What has Kenya to do with anything? I have absolutely no clue what you're blabbering about let alone are trying to convey. Then again, why would I care, knowing you're desperately seeking diversions in order to escape the never-ending nitemare called idnePESTnence, courtesy of the same TPLF who gave it to you on a silver platter, (but later revoking it. KKKkkkkkkk

What part of 30-years-for-absolutely-nothing, failed nation, aridness, fiasco, the world's largest exporter of refugees and kidneys do you not understand? Eriously spanking, you're one cruel al-sheabia groupie, obsessing about the same Ethiopia, who've rejected you worthless riffraffs. This while your compatriots back home, 2/3 to be precise, are desperately malnourished while the remaining are surviving on Rial and Dinar hand outs, courtesey of your makers & sponsors around the Gulf.

Lol Envious Erishtrean vulture, why don't u go and weep for your skinny Red Eye Boys who're currently selling chewing gum and fake Chinese bags in the streets of Malta. They nor you ever won anything, let alone the ongoing battle against the qmal on your emty scull.

CIA, strategic withdrawal, The EU, Nazret administrators, TPLF but most important: any patriotic Ethiopian who dare to forget the insignificant, arid, rotting and utterly failed banana republic (without the real bananas) of Ar'tera. The list goes on of excuse, reasons, justification and defence in order to explain & steer away from the rock solid fact that you & yours are reaping what you sow by experiencing the tormenting nitemare called idnPESTnence.

Assmanino, Your are worthless, evil and when it comes to Ethiopia – envious, inferior and hateful. Thus, deal with it before it consumes you for good.

Ethiopia a giant in the making. Wedefit, Ethiopia Tikdem :-)
