RUSTENBURG, South Africa (AP)
— Ethiopia's chances at the African Cup of Nations have taken a hit with the team's two top players expected to miss the decisive Group C match against Nigeria on Tuesday.

Ethiopia coach Sewnet Bishaw said Monday that midfielders Asrat Megersa and Adane Girma may not recover from the injuries they sustained in the first half of the team's match against Burkina Faso.

Ethiopia is last in the group but will still have a chance of advancing if it beats Nigeria in Rustenburg.

In its first tournament appearance in more than 30 years, Ethiopia earned a surprising 1-1 draw with defending champion Zambia in the opener, then fell 4-0 to Burkina Faso after Asrat's and Adane's injuries.

What to expect from the Walliya's Team? They have to play very hard and control the football in a smart way. Every chance around the goal line had to be in without any hesitation.

Well, it is a big blow to our team to lose such good players in that high caliber. But, the rest of the team players should be fired up with nothing to lose atitude like coach Sewnet himself declared, and give what ever they have, as long as it is a do or die situation. Yes we've earned some respect and learned a good lesson which will serve us for the coming big matches.
Go Walyas!

For a team which is last from its group, this doesn't seem a winning combination. Team Ethiopia must play with passion and hunger. The coach should concede that the long passing strategy is not working. The defense must stop being observant and learn how to defend. The players with such physical disadvantage need to show more talent, speed and penetration to compensate the drawback. I admire their effort for making to CAF, however their aim has to be all the way to win the cup. They are not in town to make a point or be spoilers. Any short comings can’t be pushed to the pitch or referee. If they fail, it will be their luck of playing a better ball game than the opponent. I wish the Walias all the best!!

I dont know what happened between the first game against Zambia when the whole world was talking about our gallant boys who stood up to the champions and the second one when they became the 'laughing stock' of the World. My guess is there probably was too much booze and sex in between for most of them looked exhausted in the first round of the bout from the get go. If they performed as bad, they might as well seek refugee in South Africa or else there won't be welcomat back home. w

Why is so many people surprise that they lost? Becoming a champion is a process and also a learning of the championship culture and norms, therefore, they should focus on learning and people should back off if they lost because it does not work on your first shot. But if people push them so hard there will will be no next time. As Eritrean I am indifferent on the situation but I hate to see people talking non sense.

If you see the youtube video of the first goal against BFaso there were 8 ET players bunched up in one area where the ball was and there was a forward player standing by himself in front of the goal and with 1 pass all 8 players were nullified and it looks very very bad and they look like they have no concept of defense. It looks like they new they cant defend man to man or 1 to 1 because BF players are very athletic and there is no way the can defend them so they have to do like in basket ball do zone defense which multiple players defending a specific area which requires tremendous communication and practice which is the couches duty. This is going to happen again when they play very athletic team. The only way to neutralize athletic team or player is by team defense or by becoming athletic like your opponent which is very unlikely in this life time.

Next call,
Ante Anseba, Ethiopia is not a sinking boat like your Artera. The reason why the skinny red sea boys escape Eirtrea to salvage their life from that sinking little village called Artera. To your dismay, we will welcome our players no matter what.

They lost to Zambia because I heard they were under pressure when TPLF ordered them to wear the photo of Meles Zenawi

Asrat Megersa as well as Adane Girma are ofcourse, vital to Team Ethiopia. But the coach has alternatives and could still use Plan B. Defense is the main backbone of a strong team. You should not conceed goals if you want to win trophies. if the Black Lions defend well they have a chance to win the match against Nigeria. Nigeria will be out to attack.

gudnew,
First of all, Ethiopia did not lose to Zambia. You are a misinformed ahya. Second, there was moment they were asked to wear Our PM photo bearing T-shirt. There is no need for Meles' photo to be on their T-shirt. Meles is already printed in the heart of millions of Ethiopians. So you are simply a lazy, worthless creature vegitating in hopelessness. Get lost sew mesel ahya.

Observer, exactly i have been saying, they surrounded one player opening gap elsewhere. ok the past is done and dusted, let's focus on the future, if we don't panic put our minds focus we have a chance against nigeria. Asrat is overrated but we need Adanne in the pitch. also yusuff, Fuad, any other good defender. let's just relax enjoy the game without tension and panic attack. good luck walia.

My comment from experiance as the best scorer is
* please keep the ball on the ground since they have physical advantage.
* pass the ball the first time quickly
and comfortably.
* Top attackers specifically Salahadin
should receive the ball frequently.
* Top attackers should free them
selves from the Nigerian defense
and weight the ball alertly to
strike .
