Ethiopian driller seeks place in oil history

LONDON, April 8 (Reuters)
- - Tewedros Ashenafi hopes his Ethiopian exploration outfit will become the first indigenous company to make a basin-opening discovery in sub-Saharan Africa's 21st Century oil and gas boom.

His privately-held SouthWest Energy holds 46,000 square kilometres of exploration acreage amounting to almost 4 percent of the vast, land-locked east African country.

It is looking to drill three wells in 2013 and 2014 in its Jijiga basin blocks on Ethiopia's border with Somalia in the east of the country.

Geological similarities with oil-rich Yemen across the Red Sea could help make a country which produces no oil or gas at all into a 400,000 barrels a day producer, as much as western neighbours Sudan and South Sudan can produce together, Ashenafi hopes.

The guy is it. Very well spoken (British accent), intelligent, thoughtful, commanding and definitely CEO and leader-like. He is all over the place: Wiki, YouTube, the business pages…. An impressive rising star with Columbia and Harvard degrees, he is heading to something bigger as far as worldly things go. Check out his YouTube interviews. He is not a Woeyane type, but if he was, he’ll still be a hit. Big future unless his overweightness does factor in.

its good to see a day like this where ethiopians invest millions and billions of dollars in their poverty ridden country, rather than running away from it. this definately doesnt go well with the doom and gloom ethiopia some people preach and whine about every day. i wish him good luck.

This is to the English Journalists and their associates with…..

They are talking too much with happiness about Ethiopia being land locked including during the time there is no reason to mention about. But what they do not saying is or trying to hide is that Ancient Ethiopia that is thousands years older than little England had always a sea coast line before the English plaid the leading roles with civil war and at UN permanent assembly to block Ethiopia from her millenias old sea coast right. Ethiopia being blocked from the sea using piece of dead stony and hostile land look like a fence is always going to remind how the English are affecting Africa every day.

Every Ethiopians and the Permanent UN members especially China and Russia know what kind role did play that Little England to block Ethiopia from the sea in 1993. They did this not to benefit Eritrea which was a long time Arabs project to make the red sea an Arab sea. They blocked Ethiopia from teh sea is because of they are working for the Arabs for long time including today. If they get money and business interest, they don’t care for anything but the benerfit they are getting. A UN general secretary at the time was also an Egyptian. So, the English and the Egyptian UN secretary have done it together based on teh Arabs plan.

The funny thing is almost all English journalists are mentioning saying land lock Ethiopia while saying nothing about who did it illegally to hurt Ethiopia and working for the Arabs with oil money exchange. But that was done before 9/11. 9/11 which is the Ethiopian new years day is changed everything in teh arab deserta and the west. Ethiopia is getting better and stronger by day which is never expected by her enemies including those intentionally blocked her from the sea by drawing a piece of land look like a fence intentionally done by the worst enemies to block Ethiopia.

However, soon or latter Ethiopia will get her sea coast back. When their agent for more than 45 years issayas is gone, Eritrea will be together with Ethiopia as it was the case for more than 3000 years recorded history before the English came 100 years ago and started the fire there and still is burning because of Ethiopians and Eritreans are stupid; buring together by their common enemy fire instead of making it ash long times ago by coming together in order to benefit together. But the new generation know everything what and who is behind all this.

He said:

“His privately-held SouthWest Energy holds 46,000 square kilometres of exploration acreage amounting to almost 4 percent of the vast, land-locked east African country”

It is also funny that the Apartheid children in South Africa are with the same idea with their British families regarding this matter talking Ethiopia being land locked. Do they know what is going on in SA including 86% the SA land is in the hands of the few….? .

During his 2009 Harvard OPM (Owner/President Management) graduation introduction and speech at which he was the second speaker, it was revealed that he is not only the head of SouthWest Energy, but the head of Ambo Mineral as well. He also said that he was the sole survivor of an airplane crash that occurred between Ethiopia-Sudanese border area and Addis Ababa in 2007. Good for him, as they say, because he clearly has made it. He should also rename his company to Azeb because translated in geez it means southwest. And then of course if the prospect of finding the oil does not pan out then he has to rename the company or move on and retain it. Considering the volume of so called investors and owners from Asia and elsewhere, it is surprisingly good to see any African or an African descend succeed. The man is clever in using his ivy league background like Elleni GebreMedhin of ECX fame did. But these business ventures can be put up by any able person who knows what he/she is doing. Have a solid plan, raise the money, bring in the experts… With a lot more natives participating, the continent can turn into something good in short time.
