July 26, 2013 (ADDIS ABABA) – In a new show of discontent over what they allege is the government’s meddling towards religious affairs, thousands of Ethiopian Muslims on Friday staged protest rallies in Addis Ababa’s two Mosques.

Following Friday prayers, protesters turned out in large numbers at Grand Anwar mosque, condemning the arrest of their fellow Muslims and calling for a stop to government interference in religious affairs.

“We are gathered here to call for the release of Muslim leaders and followers arrested in the pretext of terrorism”, a protester told Sudan Tribune on condition of anonymity.

When police later arrived at the scene, protesters were seen throwing stones, causing damage to public and government properties.

Islam extremism has become unavoidable reality in our country.
In the name of religious freedom, alqaida affiliated extremists are trying to hi jack the peaceful Ethiopian Muslims as a bargaining chips.
Thanks to our security forces working hard night and day handling this issue accordingly.
We all know these extremists are all the messengers of Egypt and shabia with the co-ordination of the diaspora opposition wanna be losers, who are longing to see a destabilize Ethiopia.
As usual, our govt is on top of it.
Thank God for EPRDF!!!!

It is clear that muslims can not live in peace anywhere. Their religion demands it of them. If they want to make their mosques a politic activity place then shutting it would be very wise. Send all of them back to Silte and wollo, they are not real inhabitants of Addis anyway.

We are supporter of Etghiopian government but we don’t agree the extra freedom that Ethiopian government offered to terrorists.
We are worning our government not to wait those called Islamists till they became strong and cause damages to our stablity. Their sole goal is destruction of Ethiopia and sabotage of construction of dams.
We remind our government that those so called Islamists were not even able to dream to do this in time of Hail Salasia and Minigistu. So,the real problem is: When you give freedom to do what they want to those who criminal who don’t deserve.
Now, it is security and stablity of our motherland and it is necessary to stop those who wants to change Ethiopia to Islamic State such Somalia and Afganistan.
To stop is responsablity on government and all Ethiopian citizens. If we wait there will be time , when it is too late.

What we are observing in Ethiopia is the same to what we have been witnessing heaping all over the world that terrioists spreading their evil activities and division among sociaty in the name of religion freedom. However, thanks to God that their evil missions are getting exposed and they will be melted away from the face of the earth. Especially in Ethiopia, they will never achieve anything and surely they will be chaised away by all the peace loving Ethiopian people…

God bless the world!

The protest took place at Nur Mesjid some 1 mile or 2 away from Anwar Mesjid whose Imam is government appointed. We do not know why they reported the incident. It is clear the government is doing this orchestration as usual. If it was Meles he would have done a rip on the flag of Ethiopia. Not long ago the Muslims were put in jail when the put a flag around their Mesjid. It is not clear why they are now reversing the flag policy to suit their needs. Meles told us flag is like a piece of dirty cloth.

Now, over the last two years the people did not throw a single stone and yet international media is reporting false information as usual. We request Sudan Tribune to remove its article and post a new independent report. If you do not have reliable reporters remove them. This is one of the most incredible protest every that took place for such length uninterrupted despire government ploy. It has no reached a point of return. What I advise those who call themselves the government is to listen to people voice not to their fake cadres who deny the realty in the day light.

Whether they are supported by Saudi or not they are the people of Ethiopia. They have their mind and they love their country as anyone. No body can tell them where to receive help in whatever way. But the realty is the movement is purely indegineous and attempts to paint it this or that is wrong.

It is simple better to answer those questions or face the escalation of the frustrated community to a new level of action. It is not possible to just sit and be killed, tortured and maimed by reckless policemen. We have tolerated the torture and humiliation to prove ourselves that we love peace and we will sacrifice to make that happen. As a matter of struggle when the pain becomes unbearable the government should expect the people to react in a non cooperative way. This will cause a higher degree of confrontation. My message to Ethiopia police is do not listen to your boss Segent Wekeneh. Do not listen to HD the prime minister. Otherwise, if the leaders are not release during this Ramadan, it will bring havoc in that country. The international media and other UN members should uphold the peace loving nature of Ethiopian Muslims and make decisive action before this thing turns violent. We pray it does not happen but naturally this is the course when one is denied any rights and solutions. We gave 2 years for the government to think carefully and reverse its imposition of Ah Bash on its people. We know what happened to King Susiniyos when he tried to impose catholicism on Ethiopian Orthodox. The people revolted. This is what we are seeing today. The international media instead of making things seem very trivial should up the ante on the government and question them on their reluctance. To see the protest for two years long without any appreciation for their demand is totally unacceptable.
The government should stop being provocative and stop its anti Muslims propoganda and hate on its national Tv. The ETV is for all people and not for just one party. Every sane person should denounce the inept handling of the situation by the incumbent Prime Minister.
Otherwise, he should resign. Federal Police affairs minister should resign. Just publishing drama after drama will make only get people suspicious of your evil intentions. You are spreading terror on your national TV. People are very apprehensive about their sleep at night thanks to your negative propoganda. This will have effect on the growth of the economy. Total lack of progress on Muslim issues will only bring break down of our social fabric and collapse of your own system. You will soon go away if you keep things the way they are. The status qou will not get you anywhere. Muslims should be equal to their christian peers.

The above comment shows Muslim Ethiopians will not back away. In fact, if this continues the Muslim demand will be directly at the incompetent Administration of Ethiopian government and not the constitution. So far Muslim demand is constitutional.
Also, the government is forcing the people to leave Mesjid and go to the streets and demand power restructuring. I am sure Christians will also join hands and the demand will be more than Muslim issue it will be power restructuring issue. It is will be about freedom from government control of state resources and its abuse. It will not be too long before people join hands demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister.

You, the oppressor is a peaceful agent (sic).
If you think Muslims are not peaceful people for not throwing a single stone or kill a single ant let alone human beings despite your boss instigating violence then get out of their lands and leave in peaceful place in northern caves.

You can live in your cave worshiping your cave god and burn trees for meskel, worship wooden boxes, hate Muslims, etc which are your religion pillars
Addis Ababa and the rest are not your lands. Do you really understand me idiot!

These are courageous people standing up to the rotten Weyanes. For the rest of you Kizenams who do your daily Zeraf Zeraf from afar. All I say hush!
For regulars here, your hypocrisy has been duly note. Woyanes are only bad when they put your cousins and nephews behind bars and that is the only time we hear your noises. But, they good when others are suffering in the same gulag.
Democracy, equality, freedom of speech, any kind change in Ethiopia can only come from within not from far. Not from the usual Zeraf Zeraf then Fertit politicians sitting in cafes and restaurants in DC.
That’s why I always support grass root organizations from back home.

Hi fellow Ethiopians, I am sure these terrorist and extrimists are coming to their desperate actions because, their time is ending, trust me.

This tollerance in the part of the government, as I think, is collecting infirmations and evidences, to prove them wrong in court of law. I like the process but, it shouldn’t go umtil they take someones life. For example the Imam of Dessie. I am glad the assasins are caught with their associates by the gallant security forces.

They are doing this with collaboration of the enemies of Ethiopia like, Shabia and their Egyptian mastermind. I have great confidence on the Ethiopian Security forces. Not only to curb theeir plot but to chase and get their recruters red handed too. Good job Ethiopian Security forces. Ethiopian christians, Ethiopian peacelover Muslims and other sects of religion are counting on you.

Brother, do not try to tell us garbage comment.
Muslims demand always associated to extremism, terrorism, Saudi, Egypt in tora bora, haram bokka, who else, go on Mr oppressor Coptic.

Coptics who are always depend on outside help for handout, to rule and oppress only Muslims, etc.

Stop trash talk and just respond to those highly civilzed, extremely peaceful Ethiopian Muslims demand period.
The rest, take your politics or pretext to your bank.

How did Egyptians brought Morsi down in 3 days and Mubarek in 18 days.

Amaharas/Tigrians oppressors will say Saudi and others, this and that helped them. They give you pretext for every thing in Muslim case.
Same apply on Ethiopia Muslims.

They think Saudi, Egypt, Nigeria, etc, terrorist, bla bla are behind Ethiopian Muslims. Wow.

Abiyot Square can be used as Tahrir Square. Let this government try eliminate them by killing millions of them as john john Tigrian Yohannes offspring suggested.

This kind of elimination took place in Sharpville, South Africa yet it brought with it the freedom for good.
Eritrea too.

Ethiopian Muslims should take lessons from south African, Balkans, etc. history or from recent peaceful Egyptian demonstration.
You should not confine to that Markatto area. Go to Abbiot Square brave children of Gragn Ahmed and not Yohannes or Menlik and stay there till you get solution or remove this rigid government who despised jailed, killed, made drama on you.

Ethiopian Muslims ruled by four rulers since the country established by invader Menlik in 1887. May be that blood thirsty Mengistu gave them a break for he believes not in religion. The rest imposed vicious cycle of repression non stop.

Ethiopian Muslims are the most secular in Muslim world.

Their patiency now runs out. God help us or give us an honest leader like Mandela, Gorbochov, and others who are peaceful and peacefully relinquish their power to the majority.
Ethiopian Muslims are majority and yet they don’t want establish Islamic Ethiopia. They just want share power equally and live in peace forever.

Minority northern Coptics rulers should learn from those great leaders and save Ethiopia from crack and split into villages.

You may think you are indispensable, super power whose survival depends on handout from out side.
Don’t you see even true super, super power Soviet Union, South Africa solved their chronic problem using peace.

No wonder no one give an ear to the cry of oppressed population instead mock, even wish genocide per Assta wish, and many more evil things.

Remember peace wins over evil and violence at the end.
