Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba wins her 3rd world title in women's 10,000m
Moscow: Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia won the women's 10,000 meters Sunday at the world championships, making her move with about 500 meters to go and quickly pulling away from the rest of the pack.
Dibaba won in 30 minutes, 43.35 seconds. Gladys Cherono of Kenya took silver and Belaynesh Oljira of Ethiopia won bronze.
Hitomi Niiya of Japan set the pace for much of the race, but Dibaba blew past her just before the bell lap and was never troubled again.
Dibaba, a two-time Olympic champion at the 10,000, won the world title for the third time but first since 2007.
“The lightning bolt spectators saw over moscow’s Luzhniki stadium in the middle of the women’s 10,000 meter final wasn’t a message from the gods signifying a changing of the guard. Instead it was just the thunderous exclamation of a generation’s female track racer as she continues her dominance over the distance.”
Wow! The distance Queen has done it again!
Tureye, you’re the best! we know how you keep your gold standard with that great work ethics in an everyday grueling training, discipline and determination to fulfil your promise and expectation of 90 million Ethiopians. It is not an easy task, eventhough you made it to look like.
All we can say is, thank you for being our pride and symbol of indomitable nation!
I’m always proud of you!
God bless you!
The great TIRUNESH and the other girls did heroic job over the the Kenyans. There is no word to thank them.
How ever our male athletes must stop Mo Farah on Friday’s 5000 m race by working against his tactics, which usually is to slowing down the over all pace of the pack, in order to accommodate him self at the end. some must scarifies their chance,by taking the role of rising the pace continuously so that a better sprinter could do the the job at the end. Other wise Farah has determined to brake the cycle of east African dominance using any possible strategy. Good luck to all our athletes!!
I love Tirunesh Dibaba, The Greatest!
I agree with Utopya, can our boys stop the somali dude already. Man, I am not used to watching our guys losing at every event.
“I saw him coming at the bell, knew he was behind me and so I had to have something left,” Farah told the BBC. “It was nice to see him second this time.
“I didn’t want to lose again”
Farah was talking about Ibrahim Jeilan of Ethiopia who came second on 10,000. Ibrahim beat Farah fair and square two years ago in World Championships in South Korea. The fear factor played to Farah’s benefit this time. Hopefully, that will not happen in 5000 on Friday.
The three representing Ethiopia on 5000 are:
Not your typical house hold names on 5000. Hopefully one of them will rise up to be the next Kenenisa Bekele.
Tirunesh is the Greatest Female Athlete all time.
