Ethiopia signs $800 mln mobile network deal with China's ZTE

By Aaron Maasho

ADDIS ABABA, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Ethiopia signed an $800 million deal with China's ZTE on Sunday to expand mobile phone infrastructure and introduce a high-speed 4G broadband network in the capital Addis Ababa and a 3G service throughout the rest of the country.

The agreement with ZTE, China's second-largest telecoms equipment maker, is half of a $1.6 billion project split with Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, the world's second largest telecom equipment maker. Huawei signed the agreement last month.

Both firms will provide low interest loans to Ethiopia through an arrangement known as vendor financing, Ethiopian officials and both firms said.

Africa's rapidly expanding telecoms industry has come to symbolise its economic growth, with subscribers across the continent totalling almost 650 million last year, up from just 25 million in 2001, according to the World Bank.

I highly recommend Ethiopia continue doing her business with China and Israel and ignore completely the Arab-Muslim world. There is nothing good that Ethiopian boys and girls can learn from these lusty, greedy, indolent, and addlepated Arab-Muslim nations.

Yesterday I read the following short article:

“UK: Islam’s new invention ‘Breast Bomb’ challenges Heathrow airport’s security
Aug 18, 2013

Breast bombs which blow up on board midair flights have sparked fears of a new front in the war on terror.
Al-Qaida is developing exploding breast implants which cannot be detected by scanners and security staff at airports, according to intelligence reports.
They can be activated by being injected with a liquid or an electrical signal and have triggered a security alert at Heathrow airport in London.

Bomb expert Andy Oppenheimer told the Mirror: “There is a great fear that al-Qaida is planning on using internal devices to try to get through airport scanners. These explosives could be in breast implants.”

Analysts believe that the preferred substance for so-called “intimate bombs” is Pentaerythritol tetranitrate, or PETN. They said that security fears over the devices were already leading to longer queues at airports.”

One cannot find any Arab-Muslim person inventing something that benefits human beings but only that destroys them; hence, Christian Ethiopia should avoid any business dealings with such dangerous people who always pray for the destruction of the civilized world. Ethiopia, which abhors Islamist terrorists, is one of the civilized nations.

Long overdue,
the telecom sector of the country has been nothing but a disaster, even by Sahara standard.
The focus of every sector in Ethiopia should be now QUALITY not quantity and fake statistic.

So much for the empty irresponsible EPRDF/TPLF regime rhetoric’s.

The EPRDF/TPLF regime has been screaming about the 11% fake economic growth and a development that is destroying houses and life day in and day out.

In the mean time even 1% of the population don’t even have phone/s to communicat.

According to BBC, “Less than 1% of Ethiopia’s 85 million people have access to the internet on mobile phones and 23% of the population subscribe to mobile phones, AFP news agency quotes the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as saying”

Now Dictatorial regimes as both China and EPRDF/TPLF the master of spies are on the way build mobile phone infrastructure attached to spying devices. Those less than 1% of the population with mobile phones already are being spied on daily and now they want to spy more on the rest.

Considering how poor our telecom network is , this is a very good news. Now, if only there is transparency on how we pay for it .

Good news though too late for such a great and large country.I hope this project will also improve the penetration rate. Ethiopians living abroad are paying millions of dollars more to call back home than the amount our African brothers and sisters pay to call to their respective countries . Example, A five dollars calling card would allow me to talk for only 20 minutes to Ethiopia. Whereas my Kenyan friend would get 100 minutes from the same five dollars calling card. So to get 100 minutes, an Ethiopian should spend twenty five dollars.Ethiopia’s Telecom is the most backward even in African standards.Seriously, it is a shame. So this is good news for all people who are sick and tired of buying calling cards every now and then.

God Bless Ethiopia!!!

Mogadishu has a fastest and modern mobile service than Addis where weyannes run the telecom branches office as a prison camp. I heard the merkatoo beggars has created their own fastest 4G with help of Northern korea satellite system. Weyannes are now confused by this latest development.
