Dear Assta B. Gettu:

What exactly do you mean when you said, “almost everything"?

I am afraid, it is not only hunger that we are done with. As a people and country, we have tens of things to wage a war against and win the battle.

Please do not simplify the deep trouble we are in. That certainly does not help anyone.

you should understand Assta’s comment contextually. Now and then you should pat yourself on the back and feel good. His lines were meant just to be that.

Mr. Mario (visitor),

It is not an easy thing to keep a country as big as Ethiopia glued together for over 3000 years, and there must be something in the Ethiopian blood that enables them to fight all their enemies and win all the wars and keep their country united without being colonized like many of the African states by foreign powers.

When I stated, “Ethiopians have always been the winners in almost everything but in the battlefield of hunger,” I am saying they have been victorious in everything against their foreign invaders except hunger. I am confident they will, one day, defeat hunger and disease too, and feed the rest of the African nations, not only the Ethiopian citizens. In the sport arena, they have demonstrated to the world they are capable of winning many sport competitions and continue to win. Their victories in everything are greater than their defeats; for these reasons, Ethiopians have always been the winners in everything except in the battlefield of hunger, which is visible in the eyes of thousands of our Ethiopian children. Very soon, hunger and disease will vanish completely from our naturally rich country if we all work together and use our resources wisely and economically without destroying the environment and polluting our waters we drink and our air we breathe. There must be always a balance between development and clean environment.
