Last immigrants from Ethiopia land in Israel, ending a 30-year saga
But thousands of Falashmura remain stranded in camp, refused entry by Interior Ministry.
The last 450 immigrants from Ethiopia landed in Israel on Wednesday afternoon, ending a 30-year national project. However, hundreds or even thousands of others remain in a camp in Ethiopia, as Israel has refused to let them in.
Wednesday's landing completed the effort’s final stage, which consisted of 91 flights over the past three years, bringing in the last 7,864 Falashmura whom the government allowed to immigrate.
Hundreds of excited family members and friends, some of whom arrived from Ethiopia only a few months ago, filled Terminal 1 at Ben-Gurion International Airport to greet the newcomers. Pictures of the immigrants coming off the plane and making their first steps on Israeli soil were broadcast onto a large cinema screen in the hall. The crowd applauded and cheered every time a familiar face appeared on the screen.
As the new immigrants entered the terminal gates their relatives rushed toward them, hugging and kissing them.
Good luck to all of you!
But don’t forget us, come back and visit us as soon us you make money.
Hopefully we will be rich by then.
Ship the old man Ass be Kittu to this country though “zionist Jew” (Visitor) said does not want him in his comment a couple month ago here.
I had an Eritrean friend in the university who said he was in Israel claiming he is an Israeli when he is not by taking advantage of this kind of immigration. Eritrea was part of Ethiopia then. Now he is in the west.
I urge Israel to be careful of those infiltraters who have no Jew blood nor religion. They migrate for something else.
While I wish my fellow Ethiopians would stay home, I wish them good luck. As a member of the diaspora, I truly wish I had never left Ethiopia even under Menge. I should have stayed with my fellow countrymen and, if I died, I would have died in my own country having shared the good and the bad. Now I am stuck outside my country and while I do visit often, I would prefer to live there. I am stuck for just a couple more years until my kids go to college.
As for my kids (born here), may God help them not to forget their country. They speak the language and eat the food and consider themselves Ethiopian, but I wonder if this is the end of the road for my bloodline in Ethiopia.
The old man in the picture above should return to Ethiopia. I know it’s his right to choose where to live, but it’s too late for him to start over.
In any event, let them taste Israeli discrimination. They will be just a little bit above the Palestinians in the social order.
Ethiopia is doing great (not excellent)and it would have been better for them to stay. As we say
ONCE ETHIOPIAN, ALWAYS AN ETHIOPIAN
I feel pity for these ignorant poor and brain-washed gonderes folks. Im also ashamed to be an Ethiopian with such rich diverse culture, history and beautiful land. I dont get why these people give up their proud national identity and surrender to a country with 10 million people in the middle of volatile extremism desert environ with no viable economic future except hand outs from the USA.
Dont tell me about discrimination issues. The Walaitas, Bantus, Budas, Gurages Aderes and many other minority groups have suffered worse fate but they have never denounced the god-given rights. And dont tell us they are just emmigrating for economic or political reasons like everyone else is doing the in West. No, we are fortunate that no one forced us to give up our identity, heritage and culture or faith.
Soon as they leave our land, they are no more Ethiopians and good luck with life with racist Israelis
I believe in the blessing message that God gave to human being “BIZEHU TEBAZEHU, MELEAWA LEMERIET"! And those Ethiopian who have migrated to Isrial must be in GOD’s willing that he wants the beautiful Ethiopian people spread all over the world and shine their beauty…
God bless the world!
Good luck to them.
In the other hand its sad
They did not left us. And they are not far away. They are not in foreign land.
They went to Israel the Zion of God,
our creator Almighty.
Israel is part of us and we are part of Israel. It is duty of every Christian and jewish Ethiopian defend
Israel the Zion. As Ethiopia is also,
a Zion of Africa. Israel is Zion of all world.
Our brother and sister of Flash origin are just like us. We are all children of Abraham.
Christians and Jews are one in 21st century. We have one God and one enemy. It is one wether it is a Nazi,
Facisits, Alqaida,Alshabab or other name. And we and Israel are one.
You stupid terrorist somale! Why does everything has to be about your extremism? Why do you want to associate everything with your nonsense jihadism?
You start denouncing Israel for just the sake of it, but not really concerned about the Ethiopian Jews. All it matters in your extremism agenda is, how to isolate Israel.
No problem now anymore about you dead end jihadists. We’ve invented a device which can detect your suicide vest and detonate it before you leave your cave.
Good luck to all of them. I hope those who have settled well already would make things much better for this new immigrants, I am sure these ones would progress in much better pace than the previous generation. They sure were the most skilled farmers, naturally enlightened people. They were the blacksmith, potters, welders, weavers, traditional healers, gallant fighters etc etc. These people were not just country side folks but very skillful people who without formal education were capable of doing many things! Their ancestors were the backbone of Ethiopia for many centuries. I wish they would remain in their own country but if Israel is what they choose, then best of luck to them!
* As for some people opening their mouth to disrespect the Beta Israel from their refugee & Asylum status somewhere in USA, EU, Canada etc, please, take a long, good and hard look at your own damn self! You also left your country to live wherever the hell you are living at. Shall we expect you to be no longer Ethiopians then? Smh!
We wish them all the best. What about Gragn Achemed follower to Saud Arabia the promised land.
What a shameful history. Modern day slavery. These people are leaving for economic reason not the really beleive they are juwish. How could one section og a society. Could end up betraying their country. The only reason is to expliote and to labor them. But these people dont get it nobody taught them. The government couldnt care less. I wonder why polticians specially opposition dont mention that. Why wasnt mentioned on the news. Bcs. Our politics. Focus on the game of how to take and retain power.
Whatever the reasons ,this has been their choice to settle
in a Land that they consider as
the promised by God as much as any
other jew .Ali Roble ,better you refrain your stupid comment .As you and your fellow muslim brothers first wish of all is to
accomplish Pilgrim to Mecca and Medina which you consoder as the Holy Lands ;these peoples too have also the Rights to fulfil their dream of accessing their promised Land .
Why did the Jewish came to Ethiopia in the first place. Why was the arch of the covenant taken out of Israel to ETH. Why did Mohamed told his followers to go to ETH. Ethiopia is the land where the first human inhabitants of the earth choose to wonder freely.
The fellashas will immigrate back to Ethiopia. The time will come. I have a dream.
Ali, that is their choice. You changed from Camel to Camry. RESPECT!
