ADDIS ABABA (AFP)
– A leading Ethiopian opposition group gathered Sunday to protest against the country's anti-terrorism legislation, the head of the group said.

???We want the government to abrogate the law and to release all political and prisoners of conscience immediately,??? Negasso Gidada, the leader of the opposition Unity for Democratic Justice (UDJ), told AFP.

Several opposition members and journalists, including dissident blogger Eskinder Nega, have been jailed under the 2009 legislation.

The government accused the group of ???glorifying??? convicted criminals and said the threat of terrorism in Ethiopia needed to be taken seriously.

???These people are downplaying the danger that this country has been facing... its not a potential threat, it's already there,??? said government spokesman Redwan Hussein.

Negasso said he was briefly arrested ahead of the protests along with the single member of parliament from an opposition party, Girma Seifu, and 60 other people.

Redwan said he did ???not know of anybody??? who had been detained.

The demonstration is part of a three-month campaign launched by UDJ, which has held protests in several cities across the country.

Negasso estimated the crowd at 80,000 people, while Redwan said only a few hundred had gathered.

The group, led by five people dressed in prison uniforms, chanted slogans demanding freedom and the release of prisoners, including UDJ member Andualem Arage who is serving a life sentence after he was convicted under the law.

Rights groups have accused Ethiopia's anti-terrorism legislation of being vague and used to stifle peaceful dissent.

Last year, two Swedish journalists jailed on terror-related offences were released after serving 13 months of their 11-year sentence

“Beqlo gemeduan betesech bilew, ayee tewat bakihe saychegrat berasua laay assaterech alew”
That’s what this losers are doing. They were given the freedom to do everything. But they use that freedom to advocate for convicted terrorists and Muslim extrimists. That will be a good reason to keep them in a short leash.
The so called opposition parties in Ethiopia have nothing to present as a legitimate political party. No party program, no party agenda ie, what makes them better than the ruling party, if in case they get a chance to be on the throne, in a way to develop, to transform, to defend, and do all the things the current regime has done so far differently if not better.
Instead, all they can do is, hide inside a noisy few vagabond and anarchists, with their usual cry demanding the release of convicted terrorists. And glamourizing and glorifying Muslim extremists already in custody. And crying to out law the anti-terrorism law.
LONG LIVE THE ANTI-TERRORISM LAW!!
PREVENTION BEFORE DESTRUCTION!!

Its a good start, esp letting the world know about the plight of those innocent Ethiopians imprisoned for various reasons. But true change only comes when those in the rank and file of the military realize the damage done to the Ethiopian social fabric and act against this regime. We all know who the top leaders are, corrupt to their core with fogged up brains drunk with regionalism. But the lower rank officers, those whose hands are clean of blood should react to the will and need of Ethiopians. The Emperor was overthrown because the military acted, Mubarak had to leave because the military turned against him, so did Moorsi. No matter what the politicians do, its the eventual realization of the people’s suffering and action by the military that will bring change.

One sad fact about this protest, very few Ethiopian flags. They clearly thought it was better not to carry one, rather than carry a flag with Woyanae’s askeyami star. The Ethiopian flag had the Emperor’s emblem during his reign, and Derg’s zembaba during the days of Derg. But noone went to jail or paid fines then if they carry the simple plain Ethiopian flag. This current regime, control freak as it is, is the only one that criminalized Ethiopians for carrying their beloved flag. Very sad.

Staging major/minor rallies, protests and demonstrations in the harshest political environment is a sign of bravery, determination and standing behind the principle set forward by opposition parties.

I am very grateful and proud of my fellow Ethiopians who flooded the streets of Addis Abeba and voiced our quest for freedom.

We all know woyanes/TPLF and woyane-lovers hate to see, hear or know such rallies. As opposed to this, the Ethiopian people need/love to voice their quest for freedom, equality and democracy.

Certainly, the Ethiopian people will do what they love/chose to do and not do things chosen for them by woyanes/TPLF.
We do not expect earth shaking results from each and every rally staged. We like it or not, the outcome is incremental. The more rallies, protests and demonstrations are staged in this manner, the more the Ethiopian people awareness is raised/increased. That is what matters most. The rest will follow accordingly.

Lool! Seems the opposition bloc are roaring back with vengence. It seems they got some how their balls and grooves back from oblivion status. I wonder where people like poor Addis Fart will hide next time around – the going gets tough. Personally, though, I would like to see that opposition groups come up with more substance, inclusive, united and clear platform to get the blessing of the diverse masses.

Groups such this one that believe in non-violent struggle will have my support. But those individuals or a member of any group that advocate or condone violence as a means to bring about a political change back home will not muster any of my support. As I said before many times our people has seen enough violence and went through unconscionable hardships as a result of such political violence. Violence begot violence; Violence begot pitching harmonious people against each other; Violence begot societies getting ripped off their sensible values. I can’t start to comprehend what a society would our country turn out to be if for every political change, violence is the only means to end it. Just look at the next door. Name any of them. Somalia, Sudan, Southern Sudan ae sitting on each side of the border broiled in a never-ending violence. Now Kenya is tittering on the edge. It gives me chills in my spine and nightmarish nights if violence is imbued in the psyche of our youth as the only tool to bring about a regime change. I personally hold all those who advocate violence as the only form of struggle responsible for the youth who will lose their lives or well-beings. History will hold them responsible for wanton bloodshed that will uselessly flow. They will not get any of my support and not even one red cent. In my advanced age, I have seen many and many young individuals losing their priceless lives for just causes but being driven into senseless forms of violent struggle. They shed their sacred blood in vain. I still remember faces of those bright individuals from back in the early to mid 1970′s who marched into smoldering flames bare-handed to their deaths. They were told by leaders of their group that their individual sacrifice will produce thousands of more replacements. They could have been one of me with families and grown up children. I have asked some individuals back home in the 1990’s if they can find the names of those well educated persons are on the list of victims of the Red Terror. A lot of them were indeed there on the list. I sobbed and did so bitterly. Quite a few of them were Summa cum laude, magna cum laude graduates of famous universities here in the West. They took the writings of Marx, Engels, Lenin and Mao so literally that they surged ahead to their deaths. Just imagine if they were all still alive. Just imagine!!! It brings tears to my eyes still remembering them. The irony of their unfortunate and fruitless demise is that some of the leaders of their group have shrewdly survived and written books still unapologetic about their deadly mistakes. They still have their feet anchored in that archaic leftist stubbornness and blaming others as the primary cause for the one-sided bloodbaths. They sent those young gullible individuals into the lion’s den barehanded known very well that it would mean their demise without a doubt. That is why I hate violence. I despise it and those who promote it!!! No more violence!!!

If what terrorism and religious extremism had done killing innocent people and destroying properties worth astronomical ammounts does not give lessons to those who in the name of freedom of expression make continuos noises, I do not know what can.
Actions of terror are the everyday lives of people in Pakistan and Iraq. Nairobi became a scene of this horrendous crime a few weeks ago. As recent as yesterday(29/3 2013) the terrorist group Boko Haram massacred 50 school children. The list of these heinous acts can go on and on.
If this is what the sick minds of Berhanu Nega, Andargachew Tsigie, Issias Afeworki and members of the toxic anti Ethiopia diaspora community want for our country by making noise against the anti terrorism law, are they not wishing mass killings and destructions like what we are seeing on our TV screens everyday to happen in their own country? How more evil can a human being be than by coming up with this kind of hideous and revolting demands targeted simply for cheap political ends??
The prison is where terrorists should be kept in, away from doing harm to innocent people. In my opinion, the anti terrorism law should be even tougher leaving no loopholes for evel minded people like Birhanu Nega and Andargachew Tsigie who seem to have not had enough of the terrorism they played active part to in their youth days as memebers of the EPRP that were responible for the deaths of many innocent young boys and girls.
Long live the anti Terrorism Law!

Ethiopia is prospering and shall continue to prosper!

This is the second time nazret erased my comment on this subject.
Why?
I criticized nazret for not posting Prof al articles.
I also criticized Woyane cadre, Extraterrorist (Visitor) who threatened me and Ethiopian peaceful Muslims to slaughter as a goat if we temper with his secularism (Marx version) and his development (for the north).
He doesn’t believe in freedom of speech, writing, religion and so on.
This is not practiced in Marx secular state with development.

This cadre never threatened Ginbot 7, OLF, Eritrea for they bear arms. He like his comrade cadre addis zemen (visitor) fascist have heart only for peaceful Ethiopian Muslims.

Peaceful struggle has shuttered their pillar of oppression as Bereket Simon iterated on September 25. Watch ESAT on this day. Simon said followed to 2005 electon, this Ethiopian Muslims peaceful struggle posed a great danger to his oppressive rule. So he uttered a plan how to destroy this peaceful struggle for once and for all. Mr super power prey on mass people in vain and for his fall.

They say Muslims want establish Islamic state and Sheria law on 95% of Ethiopian Orthodox. The census extracted from former king Haile in 60’s when he said 5% are Ethiopian Muslims.
Believe me Muslims they don’t dream this in their life time. Impossible.
Everybody crave for American time democracy and not Marx secular of Woyane.

Nazre do not fear freedom of expression. You allowed bigotory, hate, threat post here and not the right to defend this threats.
Please refrain from this. It doesn’t matter if you hate Muslims. Extremis Muslims hate non believers. We can do nothing except try to teach them the right path via dialogue. Woyane never believe in dialogue.

“Thousands of Ethiopian opposition activists demonstrate in Addis Ababa on June 2, 2013 (AFP/FILE)”

Nazret the story is not about June 2 but sep. 29. Why are you using the wrong date and picture?

O sorry. Is it because of AFP (a Fuck*en western journalist who is on the mission against Ethiopia) is using this picture, and you also have to follow your master?
O, Boy, Give me a break. Where are your rights, obligations and responsibilities for your own story as an Ethiopian? Or do you have your own mission as some failed so called Ethiopians are relaying on the enemies that are foreign agents looking and wishing anything bad against Ethiopia. Stop eating everything they are telling or showing to do. It is your story not them. Take the lead and allow them to take from you, not otherwise.

The truth.

There was an illegal demonstration in some isolated location in Addis. There were very few people on the demonstration and most of them were the Arab culture Burka and beard brainwashed people demanding the wahabi terrorists to be released.

Just watch Ethiopian TV if you are Ethiopian. If not, Go to hell which is ESAT and the worthless Blog Serving the Tigrigna Eritreans which is Eritrean review called by mistake Ethiopian review that is totally run with false, wrong and mislead information about anything in Ethiopia just for few Tigrigna Eritreans(his entire blog participants) consumption.

Hope, you will replace the wrong picture with the real one; matching the date of the demonstration which is 29 sep. You can get it on Ethiopian TV sep.30 with few hundred Burka and beard demonstrators called by an ignorant foreign journalist that has own agenda in our country “opposition". KKKKK
