Real wildcatters go to Ethiopia to hunt for oil
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Amid East Africa's oil and gas boom, the more adventurous oilmen are starting to gravitate toward the vast Ogaden desert region of Ethiopia, where drilling activity has been sparse since rebels attacked an exploration team in 2007, killing nine Chinese and 65 Ethiopians.
Oilmen believe Ethiopia lies on the same oil-bearing strata as the massive discovery in Kenya by British-based Tullow Oil in early 2012.
Initial estimates are that Ethiopia has oil reserves of around 2.7 billion barrels.
That's a modest enough total in global terms, but it's a potential bonanza for an impoverished state like Ethiopia, which has been land-locked since Eritrea broke away to form an independent state on the Red Sea in 1991 after a 30-year separatist war.
The Horn of Africa country has not produced any oil in commercial quantities since its first oil seep was reported in 1860.
There was some exploration 1915, which continued fitfully until the 1940s without any serious finds.
Drill baby drill
The Arabs do not want Ethiopia to become an oil state and they will do everything to stop it. It is the Arabs conspiracy that blocked Ethiopia for getting out it’s oil shares since late 1960, the time Ethiopia established diplomatic relation and recognised Israel as an independent nation.
There is oil in Tigre and wollo province. One of my relative used to keep well documents in his House in old air port.
The only way we can become an oil producer nation is without any foreigner company involvement. We Ethiopia should explore oil our selves.
That is wonderful. Is it real? When are they coming to make Ethiopia as rich as Saudi Arabia? Welcome Real Wildcatters.
“That’s a modest enough total in global terms, but it’s a potential bonanza for an impoverished state like Ethiopia, which has been land-locked since Eritrea broke away to form an independent state on the Red Sea in 1991 after a 30-year separatist war.”
This is how the English Empire of Slavery, colonization, Neo-colonization, occupation and crimes against humanity(think about Aboriginals in Australia and Native Americans) and with other countless crimes against the world for more than 500 years school of media and journalists and literature and writers is working.
Does this motherfucker know way Ethiopia is landlocked since 1993 despite the country is the oldest independent nation including from modern time since 1850s while countries including like Italy 1880 and Germany 1877? The rest of Africa is created by the colonizers and became as independent nations since the 1960s with the English brainwash mentality and damaged ability to build an African society but suffering with civil wars created and orchestrated by the English lead west which is still going on.
England was the leading factor in Europe/west the civil war in Ethiopia to be happened the way it was. Ask from the Eritrean as well as TPLF sides. The English officials were there with them supporting including in the battle field. One English woman who was with Meles for long time in the dedebit is still living in Ethiopia. What was she doing there and who was/is she? MI6 spy agent ?
England was working hard for years to land lock the oldest nation in Africa which is Ethiopia using her UN permanent membership as an advantage to work for anyone giving her money and other benefits including weapons trade which is the only English export product left and they are doing it knowing people are killing each other with English made weapons and they are exporting with Billions of dollars turn over.
Is that to benefit Eritrea? No. It was to hurt Ethiopia and making the Arabs happy in a way they would continue buying the English weapons and hiring them for jobs Arabs are not willing and not capable of doing. Ethiopia being land lock is continues reminding us and the world about the English leading involvement in UN and beyond to make Ethiopia land lock and others issues affecting any nation they are against.
USA and France were voting to land lock Ethiopia but they are not to blame. It is a friendly politic based on allies and they must be persuaded by the English that are the primary responsible about slavery, colonization and anything bad happened in the world for 500 years including in Australia and new Zealand. Ethiopia has lots of reasons to work with USA and France too.
But not with the English. Believe me, avoiding them is the best work the leaders and people are doing for the country and their own benefit. They don’t like to work but looking reasons and sectors that are the play grounds of looting, cheating, manipulating and the likes including the financial sectors. Weapon Industry is the only export they have which is killing and destroying other people and nation for their own benefit.
However, Ethiopia will get her sea coast back, soon. The little evil England that is heading faster and at all levels towards poverty, chaos, Sharia and the likes will not continue playing her centuries old dirty games against Ethiopia including the Issue of the 1984 Dance and music from happiness in front of the world came from Wimbledon and BBC(British Black colonization was covering it as horror films with real people that made them hateful racist and have no respect towards Black people) in the name of hungry Ethiopians, victims of civil war caused by the English active support to the rebels and dirty political and economic games against Ethiopia in the international arenas. They behaved that way is not to help but to humiliate all black people with image like that. They know it. It was not just a journalist and camera men work. But the whole establishment secret as well as open agenda and work.
Ethiopia being impoverished is our thing and soon we will improve it. What about more than 5 million impoverished people living in England and is growing with alarming numbers in England which is a very small country and is an European Island that had her time from the suffering of others worldwide and her future is not certain but Sharia is coming there run by oil and gas money which is when the English (class society) gets money they don’t care about anything including their country future.
Go to London and other English cities and you will feel you are in Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Arab desert, Middle East, Somalia, Srilanka or in India? 57% of about 8 million people living in London are foreign origins living with own areas, speaking own languages, behaving own ways and dressing and doing anything the same and even too conservative ways than back home. Burka and Beard culture is taking over that little Island called England while they are still on the head and shoulders of the people they still think are their slaves and colonies mainly in Africa.
Ethiopia continues working with countries in Europe like Italy, Germany, France and some Slavish nations including Russia. But the rest that are known with colonization and slavery? Let them stay away knowing they know no better but behave the way they did during those bad days because of them. They cannot work and benefit others based on win-win relationship but zero sum games with looting, cheating, creating conflicts, division and the likes.
The Little England Empire of journalism and writers school must stop undermining Ethiopia. They must know that everything negative and bad about Ethiopia including the land lock and civil war issues are the result of England. Intentionally Damaging the Ethiopian image and undermining her people is the daily job they have and we know it in a way we don’t care about but our people is getting the full knowledge of about the Evil nature of the English especially those serving the establishment where English Medias, journalists, writers and so are part of it.
This article also had to be about the company and the possibilities in the future rather than talking about all bad and negative pasts about Ethiopia. This is the true nature of the English school of journalism and writers. It is always about bad and negative things about others.
What about the horrible and inhuman long period nature of their past including slavery, colonization, occupation the countries and continent don’t belong to them and wiping out the natives and so on? Do they want those issues to bring them back to feed the 21-century humanity?
These evils need to stop trying to undermining others bringing the past most of the time they are responsible for and are leaving for the past legacy but about the common and better future together.
OPPOSITION DIASPORA STABBING THEIR EYES TO AVOID ALL THE GOOD NEWS!
lets annex Somalia now they have alot of sea
What happens to the refined product? Are we - the United States - buying the product or is it being shipped out and sold on the world market? Whose “oil” is it?
woyanne doyenne government work for themselfs .
The price of oil ten years ago was $35/barrel. It’s more than double that today. In the meantime, the price of wind and solar are dropping rapidly.
Add wars and global warming to the liabilities of oil, coal and natural gas and there’s no comparison in 2013. And this is not 1980 alternative energy we’re talking about. Not even 2010. And the days of the 1955 fossil fuel prices are long gone and not coming back greedy, gluttony, excess ,hungry Ethiopian government- regime .
Again and again. Any modern technology meant to transform that so backward society to industrialize it should be commended. Oil exploration and pumping it out of the earth’s womb is all but nothing an ‘about-time’ project that should have been put in place in the 1920’s, 30’s, 40’s or 50’s. I say ‘forward in over-drive!’. Turn that society upside down with industrialization until agriculture and nomadic way of life are given pink slips and fired on the spot. Those tourists who enjoy looking at jumping and singing human beings with bodies laid bare should be told to look somewhere else. They can go to libraries to look at past pictures. Once industry takes the lead you will see its dividends politically. We should not underestimate how industrialization shapes people’s subconscious makeup. You go to Chile and try to become Pinochet again and you will end with a bloody nose. You march in Seoul and tell the people of South Korea that you are bringing back Park in the governance and you better cut loose and run before the people catch up with you!!! You walk in Tirana and tell Albanians they are going back to the Godless Enver Hoxha days and you better say your prayers quick before you are caught because you will have no time to do so. Again, I say turn that joint upside down, in and out with industry.
In the meantime, I wish Obbo ‘21-century’ above was careful in his choice of words. Also, I wish the good folks of Nazret stroke out the foul language he used in his comment. When have we become accustomed to such vile terms from the gutter?
Hats off for you brother. Even thought I don`t agree with your point of view, I still respect for your eloquence of the subject. You are funny and well equipped to defend your ground as well.
My only two cents in this matter is that the discovery of oil and petrol at this juncture could be disaster for us. The so-called `curse of natural resources` like oil discovery is very common issue among many third world countries that lack transparency, accountability and democratic culture or institutions and our country has been and still is the best candidate for the said scenario. Nigeria, Angola and many others in the Middle East countries and Latin America are good examples for the cases. I am afraid situation will only lead to deterioration of the existing dismal socio-economic mismanagement, corruption and environmental issue

In Ethiopia, the Ogaden Basin Area is within a proven hydrocarbon setting. However, to date no commercial production has been established. Oil, gas and condensate discoveries indicate that there is a complex petroleum system. The limited available data in this under-explored area indicates that there is a wide range of potential petroleum type and volumes in this basin.
The company are now in the exploratory drilling phase. There are three rigs working at present and the plan is to bring another three rigs in over the course of the year. These wells are being drilled by experienced drilling contractors; a Polish company called OGEC, an American company called Weatherford and an Egyptian company called EDC. “There was a fairly high exploration budget this year of $468m so we have a very active year and it will continue next year,” Hill adds.

Thank you for noticing my comment and kind words. That place needs to be turn upside down industrially and hence culturally. I come from a mixed pastoral and agrarian family background. Part of my clan are settled farmers and the other part are semi-settled pastoral although the latter part has been declining for lack of moving space in the lowlands, When I talk about the power of industry to transform people’s all around psychological make-up, I talk about it from experience. I recall a story of one of my cousins who was picked from his pastoral family by an Italian soldier auto mechanic during the 5-year occupation to be his assistant. They call such helps as ‘autante’ then. He taught him about cars mechanics and he learned very well. When the British drove the Italians out he was given a job of becoming a chauffeur for one of the local officials. That official(district governor) took with him when was transferred to the southwestern part of the country. I remember how was transformed by his new mechanical skills. You would find it difficult that he came from a pastoral background. And another example that is very close and personal is myself. I left home after only the 3rd grade and spent a good part of my teenage years in the then British Territory of Aden in the 50’s and early 60’s. Working around and going to very modern schools run by the British was an early awakening for me that inspired me to go on my further education. After my college days and working at factories here in the Good Ole USA have shaped up my way of looking at things around me. You see, industry and its driving technology will make questions like ‘how’ and ‘why’ become everyday lifestyle. I can see how a single machine operated by people transforming population of a locality including those in dead-end pastoral or agrarian way of lives. Above all, we live in a twentieth century. Don’t we? I assume from you name that you may be one of our Somali brothers and sisters. I should not be the one to tell you how pastoral way life has pitched various ethnic groups against each other. One day, sooner or later, there is no place open to move the herds around. Such way life has exposed and will continue to expose the people to diseases and pestilence. Due to lack of knowledge and modern technology in their possession they chose to move on therefore laying siege to the landscape and other people on their way. My prescription for such malady is industrialization.
Thank you century 21
I wish every Ethiopia take your analysis very seriously learn it as a bible or kuran. Yes we have enemy, the enemy with big pocket, no sympathy or empathy to other human being, they have interest, only their interest. They don’t believe in any gods or life after death, means their moral play ground is misleading, the head of their government is Quine devil. They might give you a blanket but with virus, they may worship with you only until the pub opens. They may invite you for meeting, not to listen to you but to still your ideas. If their is an oil it is better to let Somalians to dig it out, at least you can fight and victory is guaranteed, with euro skeptics my Ethiopia will burn down to the ground.
Please listen to 21 century were the true is told and stick to it if you really love Ethiopia.
We’ll come to our tragedy oil!!!!!!
