Ethiopia's Ministry of Education said it has been doing its level best to produce skilled human power in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) so as to bring swift growth in the industry sector.

A two-month National Practice-centered Pedagogical Training was opened in Adama University on Monday.

Speaking at the occasion, Education State Minister Wondwossen Kiflu said the government has attached due attention to create skilled human power, who would contribute a lot towards industrial development and address unemployment problem.

The training is aiming at building the capacity of TVET teachers, he said.

About 35 professionals from Philippines, a country that registered fruitful results in the sector would share their experience during the course of the training.

The minister said ways through which the teachers could upgrade their professional competence would be facilitated.

Some 1,500 TVET teachers drawn from various TVET institutes throughout the country are taking part in the training.

17 universities in Ethiopia graduate over 35,000 persons at diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate levels: Ministry

Higher learning institutions operating in different parts of Ethiopia graduated over 35,000 persons at diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels until 26 July 2009 upon completion of relevant training on various fields of study, the Ministry of Education disclosed.

More than 5,000 of the persons graduated at first degree level from the ten newly-established state-owned universities of the nation, according to the ministry.

The persons that graduated so far in the current academic year were from 17 universities of the country including the Addis Ababa University, foreign and public relation directorate director with the university, Abera Abate told ENA.

The universities are striving to produce skilled human power trained at international standards, he said, the number of students enrolled in higher learning institutions has been remarkably increasing from year to year enabling the country produce skilled human resource in various fields of study.

The director called upon the graduates to assume a leading role in efforts toward extricating the nation out of the deep-rooted poverty.

Meanwhile, he said, the ministry has attached due attention toward ensuring the rights and interest of teachers since they are key partners in ensuring quality education in educational institutions.

As part of these efforts, the ministry has been offering advanced training for university instructors at postgraduate level, he added.

Ethiopia's Addis Ababa University on Saturday graduated more than 2000 graduates trained in undergraduate program.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony university's Academic Vice President Dr. Tekalegn Woldemariam said the university will launch improved working system and organization to render efficient service.

Since its inception 57 years before, Dr. Tekalgne said, the University has been graduating a number of trainees in various fields.

The present graduates are trained in fields of social and natural sciences as well as medical science.

Handing over awards to outstanding graduates Professor Emeritus Ermias Dagne urged the graduates to serve the public diligently

Prof. Ermias stressed significance of information communication technology and improved working system to help graduates improve their skill.

Gondar University in Ethiopia on Saturday graduated over 3400 students trained in regular and continuous programs.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, university president Dr. Mengesha Admasu said 19 of the graduates received training in postgraduate program. Some 46 others graduated from medical faculty as general practitioners.

The president said percentage of the total female students in university has reached 20 percent. Some 697 of this year's graduates are females.

The university has been building capacity to enroll more students and attain quality of education. It is making preparation to open education and agriculture faculties in the coming academic year.

Dr. Mengesha said the university has launched implementation of Business Process Reengineering to attain quality of education and deliver efficient service.

Handing over awards to outstanding graduates, Addis Ababa University President, Professor Andreas Eshete said the growth in number of higher learning institutions will contribute a lot to speed up the ongoing development endeavors of the nation.

He urged the graduates to contribute in the ongoing efforts to speed up development in the country.

Ethiopia - Assossa College graduates nearly 500 students with diplomas, certificates

Assossa College of Agriculture existing in Ethiopia's Benishangul Gumuz State on Sunday graduated close to 500 students with diplomas and certificates in regular and continuing programs.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, College Dean, Tsedeke Demissie said the graduates received relevant theoretical and practical trainings in plant and animal science, and also natural resource fields.

Handing over the diplomas and certificates to the graduates and special awards to outstanding ones, State Chief Ahmed Nasir urged the graduates to play their role in improving the livelihoods of farmers.

Established in in 1994 E.C., the college has so far graduated over 1,000 students with diplomas and certificates
