Ethiopia: Courting foreign waves the Ethiopian way

Ethiopia: Courting foreign waves the Ethiopian way

By Hindessa Abdul

Ethiopia and Qatar restored diplomatic ties, was the news that dominated the airwaves this past week. The Qatari delegation led by the Prime Minister were accorded a warm welcome in Addis Ababa that included a banquet.

There are no permanent friends or enemies only permanent interests, so goes the old adage. “We have sorted out our differences,” Ethiopian foreign ministry spokesperson assured the media.

Why did the two countries severed their relations in the first place? At the time the government in Addis was accusing Qatar of all kinds of misdeeds. At one point it went as far as labeling the Gulf state as “a major source of instability in the Horn of Africa.”

The elephant in the room
The official statement from the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affaires (MFA) cited Qatar’s relation with Eritrea and its assistance to some of the Somali war lords as the reasons for the tension between the two countries. Another important source of the conflict was the ever pervasive satellite news channel which is financed by the state.

“It is hard to ignore the fact that Al Jazeera broadcasts out of Doha, the capital of Qatar. Qatar is a close ally of Eritrea. It would be totally unrealistic to imagine that any Al Jazeera program on Ethiopia could be anything other than seriously biased,” read the statement issued by Ethiopian MFA at the time.

As a state owned media outlet, the channel may find it hard to completely assert editorial independence. In that regard, Ethiopia’s claim might be partially justified; but in a diplomatic cable released by Wikileakes indicated that the Qatari government was not ready to twist the arms of Al Jazeera. The country’s official in charge of the African Section at the MFA said:

“States more important than Ethiopia had expressed ire at Al Jazeera’s reporting without effect, and that Ethiopia would not succeed in changing Al Jazeera’s coverage by taking this action.”

By now these exchanges must have been toned down; and the officials of both countries were tightlipped about the satellite news channel in their press briefings.

Though it is difficult to say how Ethiopian authorities will react to future Al Jazeera coverages, for now it is safe to assume at least the website, which was filtered for its coverage of Ethiopian Muslims protest, will be accessible for foreseeable future.
South of the border

This is not Ethiopia’s first time to get into conflict with other countries for media coverages that didn’t please the ruling party. While the saga with VOA can make for another piece, the beef with NTV of Kenya is analogous to that of Qatar.

Three years ago Kenyan Ambassador to Addis was summoned by the MFA for a reason beyond his control. Kenya’s privately owned broadcaster NTV – part of the Nation Media Group – was running a series on Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) entitled “Inside Rebel Territory.” Ethiopia was trying to stop the airing of the four part documentary. To that effect, the ambassador in Nairobi sent a letter to NTV executives saying the decision to broadcast the series is tantamount to speaking “for these terrorist elements in our sub-region, leading us to question NTV’s covert or overt political agenda.” Covert or overt, NTV stood their ground. Besides, as soon as the series were aired the station wasted no time in making them available on YouTube for everybody to see.

While it is the duty of the powers to monitor what is said about the country they are governing, panicking and picking a fight on every little thing are hardly a panacea for all foreign affaires woes. Blaming it on “covert political agenda” to every bump on the road, even more so. Investigating and addressing the issues is in everybody’s interest.

The writer believes Jazeera(a media company) than Eritrea (a government) was at the heart of the problem between the two countries:too narrow and very selfserving, thus misleading. The attempt to draw a parallel between Jazeera and NTV, on the one hand and Quatar and Kenya, on the other, would not work. Kenya and Ethiopia remained friends.

Arround the same time Ethiopia and Qatar severed their relations, Ethiopia had another problem with Norway. Eritrea was the culprit here too, not Norwegian TV.

It’s high time someone in charge at Ministry of Information swallow their ego and hire a professional western media consultant to teach them how to be proactive, instead of just reactive…Foreign media doesn’t care about facts, just juicy stories.

Ogaden (ONLF) terrorists (financed by Qatar, armed by Eritrea) machine-gunned over 70 Chinese and Ethiopian oil workers asleep in bed, and regularly ambush humanitarian workers, yet ONLF still has office in London? Yes, because no professional media lobby is there to pump photos of massacre to British public and shame British government.

Government zero. Opposition zero.

It is impossible either to silence, controll the world journalists or put them for life in prison like Eskinder!
Ethiopians know wht’s wrong or right. As we dont believe all the story told by the tplf mass media, we dont believe every thing said by others. At least after 21 years we deserv a little bit respect.

It is impossible for the other regional nations to wait for indefinite time until tplf loot enough capital to declare article 39 for tigray. The other nations people also want the same right. We all are equal.

There is nothing wrong to live in unity or separatly. What is wrong is the double standard and living like second citizen in ones own home/country.

What is good for tplf is good for all Ethiopia or regional states of Ethiopia.

Whatever said ,even with its close ties with the Qatari regimes ,many times the Shabyan regime has been criticised by Al Jazeera ,on its different reports, concerning the leadership and the suffering of the refugees .I don’t think so the actual Little Tyrant HMD shall be spared by Al Jazeera just because of his new tie with Qatar .On the contrary in a way to gain Qataris Moneys ,Agazi Bandits and Tigre Mafiosis are certainly ready to accept their Shabyan Master conditions on the Badme issues and the accesses to the Red Sea .Once again selling the unity and sovereignty of Ethiopia for the sake of their New Gulf Emir boss .

When it comes to Arab countries and Woyane relationship on Ethiopia we should never let our guards down.

All those home grown enemies such as Shabia and TPLF/Woyane were groomed and nurtured in Arab counties. Now it is the continuation of their “Let’s Ruin Ethiopia” program that was created before 1991 Woyane era.

All Arab counties especially Gulf give their citizens including the beduans rights to abuse Ethiopians and poor foreigners who came to work as labors, maids and servants. Fairness and human rights never have or will ever exist even to their own women. Qatar may be slightly better democratic to its own citizen but not to foreigners.

Guess what now we have Alamoudi the Saudi Billionaire who ruining the farm environment and sending organically farmed vegetables and food to Qatar and building his empires at the destruction of Ethiopia. There is no friend of Ethiopia in the whole Arab continent except maybe Yemen who is also a victim of Saudi invader.

Qatar also acting as a Super Power like Saudi Arabia not because they are strong in military and technology but because they are oil rich and can buy African greedy so called leaders.

The article reports: “There are no permanent friends or enemies only permanent interests, so goes the old adage. ‘We have sorted out our differences,’ Ethiopian foreign ministry spokesperson assured the media.”

The old adage, not the author of the article, is wrong for there are permanent enemies in this world, and these permanent enemies of the other human beings are the Muslims who hate the Jews, the Christians, the Hindus and the other non-Muslims. Muhammad the false prophet of Islam confirms the permanent enmity that exists between the Muslims and the non-Muslims: “We reject you. Hostility and hate have com between us forever, unless you believe in Allah only” (Quran 60:4).

The friendship that exists between the Americans and the Israelites is permanent, eternal, and unshakable despite the Arab-Muslim world’s failed explicit and implicit agenda to severe the long lasting friendship of the two sovereign nations – the United States and the State of Israel.

When the Ethiopian foreign ministry spokesperson confirms to the public that Ethiopia and Qatar have elucidated their differences, he is not, for sure, telling us the whole truth and he must be lied by the Qatari delegation who follows Muhammad’s teaching that Muslims can tell a lie and can say anything they want to say (Ishaq: 365; Tabari VII: 94). They can also break any treaty they have signed (Quran 8:58).

In my view, the main goal of the coming of the Qatari delegation to Addis Ababa is to closely observe the Ethiopian Muslims’ protest against the Christian government of Ethiopia and to secretly encourage it, finance it, and strengthen it until it has achieved its long-awaited goal – to overthrow the Woyanne regime.

This renewed communication between Christian Ethiopia and Muslim Qatar helps not Ethiopia but the Islamic Qatari government in sending Qatari Jihadists to the Christian land of Ethiopia to spread Islam through out the country. The Qatari Embassy in Addis Ababa will be staffed by the Qatari imams, mullahs, and Sheks: some of them will be money distributers to the Ethiopian Muslim protesters; some of them will be Ethiopian Muslim recruiters and Christian converters to Islam, and many of them will be tourists so that they could go to various Ethiopian provinces and gather new information about the weakness and strength of the Christian land of Ethiopia. They will finally pass their collected information to the underground working Jihadist Muslims in Ethiopia. Then these Jihadist Ethiopian Muslims, having all the information they need, will strike the Ethiopian Christian government at the right time and at the right place. And the government will easily surrender its power to the Islamic rule, but the Christian northerners will never easily surrender to the Muslim government. They will fight back and become victorious, and that will be the end of Islam in Ethiopia.

Hence, I advise the Ethiopian government never to have any treaty, trade, or business with countries that hate Ethiopia, and the only countries that hate Christian Ethiopia are the Muslim countries. All Christian countries are Ethiopia’s friends and all Muslim countries are Ethiopia’s enemies. The closest friends to Ethiopia are the state of Israel, America, England, Canada, France, Germany, Russia, Armenia, Serbia, Portugal, Spain, and many other Christian countries.

It is much better for Ethiopia to annul the new trade agreement between the Christian city of Addis Ababa and the Muslim city of Doha to avoid a further headache as the result of this uncalled for “warm welcome” to a Muslim delegation and an unintentional friendship with a Muslim country – Qatar.

The Emir of Qatar whose wife grew up and educated in Libya succeeded creating an Islamist Freedom and Development political party in Libya with huge resources that led Qatar to get credit of the Arab Spring revolution denying the intended western type democracy in Libya.
Saudi Arabia did the same thing in Egypt.
In this new Islamic revolutionary world order both Qatar and Saudi Arabia want Muslim oriented governments in every Muslim country, because western type democratic government will be hostile to the old order, they believe western type democratic governments will result in ballot hostility. Qatar’s interest in diplomatic relation with Ethiopia is simply to deal with Somalian conflagration and deny the out come of shaping the future Somalia by the major power players of the region. Both countries(Qatar-Saudi Arabia including UAE)being in the Arab solution for Somalia(Muslim camp)could not move an inch on Somalia to achieve their goal establishing legitimate Islamist Government after Al-Shababs defeat without consulting the major power players in Somalia(Ethiopia,Kenya,Uganda,AU,IGAD and some none state actors).Already Qatar and UAE spent a huge resources in the selection of the new Somalian Parliament that selected the new President Mr.Hassan who promised to negotiate with moderate Islamist -Damut-Jadid factions in the Al-Shabab hierarchy which was the old Somalian Muslim Brotherhood version known in the old days as “Al-Islah” Who are these Al-Islah in Somalia?.Al-lslah group in Somalia were those Muslims who were educated at Al Ahazhar University in Cairo by Muslim brotherhood sent to Somalia after independence with about 70 Wahabist from Saudi Arabia. This group barley survived the Ziad Barre’s Socialism by going underground after Ziad Barrie changed Somalian language use from Arabic use in the Mosque into Latin lettered practices .It was this group credited creating the Shiek Awey’s group and Al Shabab. It is this group of moderate Islamist(Damut Jadid) that Qatar is now wants included in the negotiation with the new Somalian Government leaving the hard core Godane-Robow-Al Hamami group of Al-Shabab leaders denying any credit the major power players of the region(Ethiopia Kenya Uganda Burundi) in shaping the future of Somalia.
