Meles Zenawi: The Prime Criminal of Ethiopia

Meles Zenawi: The Prime Criminal of Ethiopia

By Mesfin Arega

The recent empty bravado about Weyane's supposed incursion into Eritrea to attack the most probably non-existent opposition training camps is much ado about nothing. I highly doubt these attacks were indeed actually carried out. They absolutely do not make sense and therefore are extremely suspicious, to say the least. Being a veteran of thirty years of bloody guerrilla warfare, Isayas is not that stupid to set up training camps so close to the border - a mere 16 km which is well within the range of Weyane's ultra modern artillery, such as the self-propelled M109A1 howitzer 155 mm gun of range 30 km, supplied to the the terriorist Weyane by the United States for its staunchest - by far the most doggishly subservient - African "ally in the war on terror" - ever ready to be deployed wherever and whenever it is told to, without asking any question whatsoever, except, ofcourse, "Where is the money?". In all likelihood, this bluff is Meles's mischievous trick - his devious ploy - to give semblance of validation to his oft-repeated baseless argument about international oppostion to Ethiopia's any attempt to gain her rightfull access to the sea - as a pretext to go ahead and happily sign the "final and binding" decision of the boundary commission so as to realize his ultimate and most satifying dream of making Ethiopia legally and permanently land-locked.

Ever since he usurped power, the actions and behavior of Meles Zenawi – the measure he took, the policies he adopted, and the statements he uttered – have been puzzling countless Ethiopians. Even well meaning foreigners who keenly follow developments in the country are having great difficulties in making head or tail of Meles’s policies.
How come the leader of a country not only becomes the first to recognize the secession of a crucial part of his country (without which the country will be totally and helplessly land-locked) but also nags – harasses– the leaders of other countries to do the same? Why does the leader of a country completely reverse all the military gains of the country – achieved at enormous sacrifices – to turn a victorious country into a vanquished one – an absolute loser – which not only loses all of what it gained militarily but also what was incontestably hers? Why does the leader of a country divide the country along ethnic lines when he knows for sure that it is a recipe for disaster? Why does the leader of a country adamantly stick to his policies when these policies have been proven to be total failures? In short, why does the leader of a country abhors that country so much so that nothing seems to please him more than seeing the very name of the country completely wiped off from the world map via disintegration, and its population driven to extinction via plague and famine?

The aim of this article is to address these and other seemingly perplexing questions and, thereby, explain the reasons why Meles Zenawi is behaving and acting the way he does. It can be viewed as my token supplement to the recent excellent articles of professor Messay Kebede which beautifully explained the seemingly inexplicable actions of the weirdo Meles, though it was written and posted way long before those articles, about a decade ago to be exact, when, to my utter dismay now, I used to prefer writing in English than in Amharic. I have only made minor corrections and few additions to that old article, so as to take recent events into consideration.
Meles has grand plan – a life long dream – the dream to hook-up his father’s province (Tigray) with his mother’s province (Eritrea) so as to form the Tigray-Tigrin Empire or Greater Tigray - as christened by the proponents of this crazy idea. It is with grand plan in mind that Meles annexed huge lands - strategic and fertile lands - from Wollo and Gonder and incorporated them into Tigray. It is also with this grand plan in mind that he resettles – under the pretext of fighting famine – tens of thousands of Tigrians in these newly acquired lands. By doing so, Meles intends to make these lands permanently Tigrean so that the future Tigray-Tigrin will become, at least agriculturally, self sufficient.

These newly acquired fertile lands – Meles reckons – will play invaluable roles in winning the hearts and minds of those Eritreans who until now are vehemently opposed to the idea of Tigray-Tigrin, mainly because they see no economical advantage – if not disadvantage – in Tigray joining Eritrea. Add the industries, colleges, irrigation dams, hydro-electric plants, roads etc. built in Tigray – built with taxes collected from other regions of Ethiopia, and with money borrowed in the name of all Ethiopians – the province will soon become so tantalizing that an Eritrean must be a diehard moron not to be thrilled at the prospect of gaining full access to these resources via Tigray-Tigrin.

[Caution: Let it not be interpreted that I am begrudging the “development” of Tigray. Far from it. In fact, Tigray being the cradle of Ethiopia, and I being a passionate believer in Ethiopia the idea – Ethiopia the religion – no one would be happier to see Tigray prosper. However, I believe that it is in the interest of the people of Tigray themselves if the little we have is shared equitably – if due emphasis is given to our people who deserve it most – the Omos and the Agnuwaks, the Benshanguls and the Gumuzs, the Afars and the Isas etc. Why build a dam on the practically seasonal minor river Tekeze before the perennial major river Baro for instance? Why plan a rail link to the externally pumped, artificially inflated, economically secondary, if not non-viable, Mekele before the more economically sound towns Awassa and Nekemte? Why connect the ghost towns of Tigray with asphalt roads before the much more important Assosa? Why build so many colleges and universities in Tigray when there is no high school worth mentioning in Gambella? Why ..... Why ....... Why ....... ]

Meles’s Tigray-Tigrin grand plan also explains why Meles – quick and aggressive though he was to grab lands from other regions of Ethiopia and incorporate them into Tigray – is not in the least bothered at all whether any part of Tigray (Badme, Zalanbessa, Irob etc) “goes” to Eritrea or not. For him any “boundary” between Tigray and Eritrea is a meaningless temporary line which will become moot the moment Tigray-Tigrin is born.
Meles’s expression of “dissatisfaction” with the ruling of the boundary commission is nothing but a propaganda hoax designed for public consumption. In fact, Meles cannot be any happier about this ruling, because it fits perfectly with his Tigray-Tigrin grand plan.

The boundary commission’s decision he “accepted, in principle” will make the land-locked status of the present day Ethiopia legally recognized by all countries and international bodies of the world. As far as Meles is concerned, this is the single most important effect of the commission’s verdict – the one which makes him the happiest – since it will ensure that, when Tigray eventually joins Eritrea, the resulting Tigray-Tigrin will have complete control of the red sea cost, rendering the rest of Ethiopia a strangled, weak and ethnically divided mass of land which can easily be manipulated and controlled, forever serving as a source of raw material and cheap labor for Tigray-Tigrin. In short, Meles renounces the entire red sea coast to Eritrea by a “final and binding” decision – a term included in the Algiers agreement by the insistence of Meles – only to get it back as a sole, uncontested, and internationally protected property of Tigray-Tigrin , when this artificial entity is realized in the not so distant future. A very brilliant plan indeed! I have to give credit where credit is due and begrudgingly admit that this guy called Melese or Legese is deviously smart , the devils own reincarnation. And, for some reason, God seems to be on his side, because, up to this point, every thing has been going precisely according to his plan.
Perhaps, God is using him to punish us for our horrendous sins, for the unspeakable crimes we committed against each other, and against his chosen holy land – the cradle of mankind, the biblical Eden Ethiopia – against its lakes and rivers, its forests and wild animals, its mountains and valleys, and its churches and monasteries. Our sins were so horrendous that this devil sprung up form – of all places – Adwa - only to defile the very essence of Adwa, to desecrate everything Adwa symbolizes. Adwa – by far the holiest place not only for Ethiopians but for blacks all over the world. Adwa – that massive grave yard of our heroic forefathers of every ethnicity, drenched to the core with their blood.

Meles’s Tigray-Tigrin grand plan is the principal reason for his ethnic division of Ethiopia under the guise of federalism - his dividing up of the country into numerous, potentially antagonistic pieces – held together by nothing but a very thin string dubbed “federal government” – a string deliberately designed not to withstand even the slightest tension force – a string which, unlike any other string witnessed in nature, pushes rather than pulls, defying the laws of physics.

Unlike the other regions of Ethiopia, Meles’s Tigray is governed by a strong “local” government with no “minority” rights at all, even though the region includes sizable Amhara and Oromo populations, especially in the newly annexed lands. Likewise, the Eritrean government is as central as any government can be. There is no talk of that nonsense called “ethnic federalism” in Eritrea. Thus the foundations for a relatively huge Tigray- Tigrin empire, ruled by a strong and highly centralized government, and adjoined by ethnic-based, weak, and antagonistic mini-states have already been laid. In this regard, Meles is on record to have replied, when asked why his emphasizes ethnicity, whereas his counterpart in Eritrea suppresses it – “I guess we both are right”.

Meles’s main problem with Shabia’s leader Isayas Afeworki is not because he claims this or that part of Tigray, but because he either totally rejects Meles’s Tigray-Tigrin plan or vacillates between accepting and not accepting it. This is, perhaps, the reason why, in an interview with the BBC, Meles laments that Isayas is “very unpredictable … today he is your friend tomorrow he becomes your enemy and the day after tomorrow he can be your friend again..” Why Meles wishes to befriend Isayas – Ethiopia’s sworn enemy – should not be a mystery here. If Isayas does not like the idea of Tigray joining Eritrea, it may be partly because he is smart enough to foresee that - in any union of Tigray and Eritrea - Eritreans will be completely swallowed by the comparatively huge and rapidly growing population of Tigray and, therefore, will be reduced to mere minorities, with little – if any - say in the government.

Meles’s other problem with Isayas has something to do with Meles’s insatiable thirst for power. The control-freak Meles wants to be the sole, uncontested, leader of (what he hopes) the soon-to-be realized Tigray-Tigrin. In Isayas Afeworki he sees a series rival - a physically imposing adversary well endowed with that abstract thing called “charisma” which Meles so conspicuously lacks. For this, and for this reason alone, Isayas has to be gotten rid off in due time – liquidated if necessary. Thus, if things go Meles’s way, the fate of Isayas will be – at worst – that of General Hayelom Arayay, and – at best – that of Sye Abraha.

Meles has now tapped Hirui Tedla Bairu - the son of Dejazmach Tedla Bairu (Eritrea’s first president under federation) – to replace Isayas Afeworki. Hirui is a fanatic disciple of Woldeab Woldemariam – the greatest protagonist, if not the pioneer, of the Tigray-Tigrin movement. With Hirui in power, Meles’s cronies in Tigray will immediately invoke article 39 of “Meles’s constitution”, proclaim that “99.8 percent of Tigrayans are in favor of secession”, and then secede from the rest of Ethiopia to join Eritrea. A new country – Great Tigray – will then be born, with Meles as its greatest founding father and its first president.

For obvious reasons, Meles’s grand plan cannot be made public until the right time comes, until every ingredient is put in place to actualize the plan. Till then Meles has to use every means he can muster - historical distortions, pure lies, scaring tactics, psychological demoralization, etc. – to deceive the Ethiopian masses, to deflect their attentions. In the remainder of the letter I will go over some aspects of this deception campaign of Meles, lest some Ethiopians are not aware of them.

One aspect of Meles’s campaign involves distortion of facts and misinterpretation of historical events. An excellent example of this is his argument that “the question of Eritrea was settled once and for all when Emperor Menelik stopped at Mereb and signed agreements with Italians”. Nothing can be further from the truth. Emperor Menelik stopped his pursuit of the utterly defeated Italians at Mereb, not because he believed that Ethiopia ends there but only because, his army completely exhausted, he was painfully aware of his inability to chase them any further. He didn’t even have any more proven military leaders who would carry out the chase, since most of them were sacrificed in Adwa. May their soul rest in peace! We should not forget that we are talking about a war between a European country whose well trained army deployed the most modern weapons of the time, and an African country which didn’t even have a standing army, and whose hastily assembled “soldiers” fought with essentially nothing but spear and swords. No wonder that the price for the victory of Adwa was a huge sacrifice, a sacrifice more than five times paid by the Italians, a sacrifice which even included our then war minister Fitawrari Gebeyhu. How many wars have we heard of in which the defense minister of a country got killed? This should sum it up.
Under such unfortunate circumstances, Emperor Menelik had no choice but to sign, albeit reluctantly, an “agreement” with the Italians, knowing full well that, in due time, the Italians will be kicked out and Mereb Millash (a.k.a. Eritrea) will rejoin her mother land, which it did in 1952. He surly didn’t foresee this artificial narrow strip of land become a permanent one even after the Italians left. Let alone Emperor Menelik, even the Italians themselves didn’t mean it to be permanent, since they were not interested in this artificial entity as such except to use it as a spring board to colonize Ethiopia proper. The Italians knew that their “agreement” with Emperor Menelik was not “final and binding” but a mere ploy to buy time until they scrap it altogether, which is what exactly they did when they invaded central Ethiopia in 1936.

Another aspect of Meles’s campaign involves scaring Ethiopian from ever taking measures that would jeopardize his Tigray-Tigrin grand plan. An excellent example of this is his argument that, since Eritrea is now a country recognized by the U.N., it will be defended by that international body should Ethiopia attempt to get her ports back, much like the case of Kuwait. This is nothing more than baseless terrorization. If any thing, it exposes that the real reason why Meles hurriedly recognized Eritrea and implored others to do so was to give this artificial entity full international protection and, thereby, dissuade Ethiopians from ever attempting to reclaim any part of it.

Being a veteran of thirty years of bloody guerrilla warfare, Isayas is not that stupid to set up training camps so close to the border - a mere 16 km which is well within the range of Weyane's ultra modern artillery, such as the self-propelled M109A1 howitzer 155 mm gun of range 30 km, supplied to the terriorist Weyane by the United States for its staunchest - by far the most doggishly subservient - African "ally in the war on terror" - ever ready to be deployed wherever and whenever it is told to, without asking any question whatsoever, except, ofcourse, "Where is the money?".
Many Ethiopians are indignant at the UN for endorsing the break up of Ethiopia – its founding member – by giving ultra-fast recognition to Eritrea, but, at the same time, adamantly refusing to do the same in the case of Somali Land. But what was the UN expected to do, when the supposed “leader” of Ethiopia is the most vocal advocate of the cause, more so than even Isayas Afeworki himself?

Deep down, the whole world – including those Arab or pseudo-Arab leaders who lavishly fund Shabia for the sole purpose of weakening Ethiopia – very well know that Ethiopia has both the legal and moral rights to get her ports back, that Ethiopia should not be penalized for fighting – and defeating – colonialism and white domination, and that - had Ethiopia been colonized - it would have had the entire red sea coast and more. In any case, let us not put the cart before the horse. The moment Meles is gone, we should immediately take our ports back, by any means necessary. We will then see which countries – under the auspice of the U.N. – will send their soldiers, attack us, drive us our from our ports, give them to Eritrea, and condemn a country 80 million - a country which accounts from more than 10 percent of the black African population, a country which symbolizes the pride and dignity of blacks all over the world, to be suffocated to death, with practically no means of breathing in or breathing out.
Yet another aspect of Meles’s deception campaign is his claim that the red sea ports are not essential for Ethiopia and, therefore, can be given away without adverse consequences for the country. Nothing can be more insulting to the intelligence of Ethiopians. One does not have to be a rocket scientist to realize that having her own access to the sea is crucial to the very survival of Ethiopia, surrounded as it is by inimical and potentially inimical countries, chief among which is Egypt. Ethiopia cannot afford to be blocked from her natural access to the sea by a colonial-fabricated artificial entity called “Eritrea”, an entity which is overzealous to cooperate and serve as a spring board for Ethiopia’s arch enemies in any possible - dare I say, inevitable - future confrontations. Lack of her own ports will no doubt kill Ethiopia, albeit slowly and agonizingly. Besides, the immense sacrifice paid from time immemorial by millions of Ethiopians in safe guarding her red sea cost from the Egyptians, the Turks, the Italians and – yes, the Mereb Millash bandits and bandas with slave mentality should not be in vain.
Another deception employed by Meles - to mislead Ethiopians into abandoning the question of sea out let one and for all - is his argument that, right now, we have more pressing problems to deal with – famine, poverty, and disease. This is nothing more than Meles the actor – the “Oscar winning actor” (remember he won a “peace award”!) – shading a crocodile tear. Now we know why Meles deliberately implements flawed land and economic policies which do not assuage but aggravate the plight of Ethiopians. Now we know why, with Meles at the helm of power, the proportion of Ethiopians totally dependent on foreign hand outs grew to a colossal value - one in four. And now we know why, right after Meles grabbed power the HIV infection rate in Ethiopia increased so dramatically that it quickly became one of the highest – if not the highest – in the world. Nevertheless, this pretext of Meles is a very treacherous one which can easily deceive many well-meaning Ethiopians – Ethiopians who are constantly worried about the suffering of their country men. However, such Ethiopians have to realize that deciding on a permanent issue – and a very crucial one at that – based on temporary problems is nothing but shortsightedness at its best – a classic example of the donkey’s adage “Ene Kemotku Serdo Aybkel” (“Let no grass grow after I die”).

We have to think of hundreds – if not thousands – of years from now. We have to consider the future generations. As the saying goes “We didn’t inherit our country form our fathers, we borrowed it from our children”. And when we borrow something, the most honorable thing for us to do is pay – the principal plus the interest. Should it happen that we cannot pay the principal plus interest - shame on us – but we have to make sure that we pay the principal, and never less than the principal, which is what it would amount to if we condemn our children to live in a land-locked country.

The question is then, do we want our children to be at the mercy of others for what they import and export or not? Do we want them to be completely excluded from harnessing the rich and untapped resources of the Red sea or not? In short, do we want them to be, as our saying goes, “Ye Bei Temelkatch” or not? Think of the very adjective land-locked. “Ethiopia – a land-locked country in the horn of Africa – blah, blah, blah”. How shameful! How psychologically demoralizing! Surely, Meles Zenawi should one day be made to pay dearly for this grave crime of his.

Meles is using famine to advance his own Tigray- Tigrin agenda - be it resettling Tigreans in lands annexed from other provinces of Ethiopia, or amassing huge sum of money to “build” Tigray and, of course, enrich his own coffer. More importantly, he uses it to demoralize Ethiopians by consistently complaining to BBC journalist that “it is difficult to run a country that is very poor”, as if any one in the whole world needs to be told how poor Ethiopians are, and as if Ethiopians are begging him to run their country.

Here is an interesting observation. Of all leaders of Africa, why is Meles the darling of the BBC and, by extension that of the British government which bestowed up on him what amounts to a sainthood – “Africa’s new-found savior”. Why do BBC journalists, who are well aware of Meles’s intense hatred of the Amhara since his rebel time, repeatedly ask him inappropriate and totally unfounded questions like “how do you deal with Amharas who think that they have the divine right to rule Ethiopia? ” – if not to reinforce his hatred and provoke him to do even more damage to Ethiopia , as if he needs any provocation. Why don’t these English journalists slightly modify their own question and ask an Irish freedom fighter [say, Gerry Adams of the Irish Republican Army (IRA)], or a Scottish nationalist, or a Cymru (Wales) separatist “how do you deal with the English who think that they have the divine right to rule the U.K?” – a kingdom which, to the best of my knowledge, has never been led by a person of non-English decent (aside from King James IV of Scotland), which is absolutely not true in the case of Ethiopia, most of whose leaders have been, in fact, non-Amharas. [We should not confuse an English man born Scotland such as Tony Blair for a Scotsman. The same applies for Cymru and Northern Ireland.]

Ethiopia’s scintillating victory at the battle of Adwa (March 1-2, 1986) has proved beyond any doubt that , well organized and wisely lead, the black man is capable of defending Africa from those European murderous beasts otherwise called colonialists. Ever since then, the colonialists and their descendants – now called pro-colonialists - have, understandably, developed intense hatred towards Ethiopia, and what the very name Ethiopia stands for. With regard to Africa, the shaming and humiliation of Ethiopia has been their main agenda, partly because it will be a severe blow to the black man’s pride, hope and aspirations, and partly because it will serve as the ultimate justification for colonialism, enabling pro-colonialists to proudly claim that “colonialism was good for Africa, just look at the only non-colonized country in Africa, Ethiopia, which is destitute, hungry, and always at war itself”. In Meles Zenawi, they have finally found the perfect man to implement their agenda - the man whose own objectives precisely match with theirs.

I am not a fan of the term “Amhara”. I would rather use “Ethiopians whose first language is Amharic”. We are so intermingled, so blended with each other that there is no such thing as pure Amhara, pure Oromo, pure Tigre, pure Somali, etc. The mobile nature of the people of Ethiopia has insured that there is no such thing as a pure ethnicity in Ethiopia. Our tumultuous history – the “invasions” of Yodit and Gran, the Oromo “expansion” northwards, the Menelik “expansion” southwards, and the continual relocation of the capital city of Ethiopia – has made it more so.

Thus, no one – absolutely no one in Ethiopia – can say “I am 100 percent this or 100 percent that”. No body can claim to be “totally Amhara” denying his Oromo root, just as no body can claim to be “totally Oromo” denying his Amhara root. The same applies to other peoples of Ethiopia, most of all to Tigres whose home province Tigray has been – until very recently – the seat of Ethiopian government – the center of power – to which Ethiopians of all ethnic backgrounds congregate. And no Tigrean is as good a proof of this fact as the race obsessed - the ethnic purist – Meles Zenawi himself. One just has to take a brief look – a quick glance – at him to concur with my point.
[Caution: I am not implying that Meles is physically ugly, although there can be no question about the ugliness of his mentality, aberrated, distorted and disfigured as it was by the far mentally uglier Sebehat Nega, over and above his unfortunate up bringing, confounded by his not so glamorous roots. Far be it from me say that Meles is physically ugly and, thereby utter such an obnoxious – absolutely vulgar – statement. I was just trying to drive home my message that Meles Zenawi – try as he might to convince the rest of us Ethiopians and, most importantly, himself that he is ethnically pure – is, in fact, the antithesis of that – a perfect example of how far intermingling has gone in Ethiopia, and that, in this sense - only in this sense - he would have constituted as good a leader as Ethiopia can have.]

It follows that, at least in the case of Ethiopia, ethnic purity is nothing but a pure lie - a political ploy employed by the likes of Meles Zenawi and some other leaders of the so called “liberation fronts” including those who claim to “represent the Amhara”. In retrospect, we should be thankful that such a blending – such a mixing up of genes – occurred in Ethiopia, since nature tends to select the strongest – the most dominant - gene from each participant in the process. A blended – genetically diversified - “race” is much stronger than a pure one – if there is such thing as a pure one – in every physiological aspect, be it physical or mental. The greater the extent of the genetic diversification, the better. It is only the ignorant – the naïve - who proclaim to be of pure blood, and brag about it.

Defamation is another aspect of Meles’s campaign of deception. Any body who exposes the destructive policies of Meles - his step by step plan to annihilate Ethiopia – is demonized by Meles and his cronies as a blood thirsty, chauvinist war monger. Ironically, these are the very people who sacrificed of tens of thousands of Ethiopians at Badme, Tosorona, Zalambesa etc - not to gain anything but to lose what was incontestably ours. Their message then is very clear. When it serves their mission of destroying Ethiopia, they are the greatest warmongers – cold blooded murderers with absolutely no qualms about using young Ethiopians as mine sweepers or Fenji-regach as they disdainly refer to them. In the contrary case, the shade crocodile tears and pretend to be peace lovers, going to any length to avoid blood shade, be it by giving away Ethiopia’s own lands.

Unfortunately, a substantial number of Ethiopians have fallen victim to this treachery Meles. It is not uncommon to hear many Ethiopians label those Ethiopians who oppose the ethnic policies of Meles and demand the restoration of Ethiopia’s rightful access to the sea, as Amhara chauvinists living in the “Ivory Towers” of the west. However, such Ethiopians have to realize that one can never have peace by giving away one’s own land to whoever threatened to take it. It has never been witnessed in history – until a person called Legesse Zenawi came into the picture. Besides, if we start giving up portions of our country so as to avoid confrontation, where are we going to stop? Now we give up our entire Red Sea cost so as to have “peace”. Next we will be asked to give up the entire Ogaden region, lest we have war. Next the Gambella region …Next …. As the saying goes “One who fights and run away; will live to fight another day” (equivalently, “Alebabsew biyarsu barem yimelesu”).

Then comes Meles joke that his chopping up of the country into ethnic enclaves “effectively averted the looming danger of national disintegration”. But who in the first place did create such a danger? Yes, during the military regime, the survival of Ethiopia was in question - as it has been in question myriads of times in our tumultuous history. However, it has never been in question to the extent it is right now. Ethiopia has never been so close to the edge of a very steep cliff – a precipice - that – apply the slightest push – it will tumble down so violently, and then explode with such a cosmic big-bang that it will disintegrate completely, leaving no trace – absolutely no trace - in its wake.

Now, who is going to apply this little push – this tiny little push so dreadful to the majority of Ethiopians that they don’t want even to contemplate about it. Yes, you guessed right. It is none other than Meles himself. After working so hard to bring Ethiopia right to the very edge of oblivion, his is definitely not going to give the “honor” of finishing her off – the coupe de grace – to any body else. This is what Meles believes he came to this world for, this is what he has been dreaming about since his childhood, this is his ultimate way of getting even with who he thinks are his mortal enemies – the Amharas - and this is what he reckons will give him the greatest satisfaction of his life that Meles will make sure – absolutely sure - that nobody else but he, himself, is going to do it. In the mean time Meles will use his power to dissolve Ethiopia at any moment of his choice to scare Ethiopians - who are constantly worried about the fate of their beloved country - from ever attempting to get rid of him. The very survival of Ethiopia has now been reduced to Meles’s bargaining chip.
Thus, we should stop calling Meles what he is not - a traitor. He cannot be charged for treason but as an enemy viceroy such as Rudolf Graziani, for instance. Meles never said he stood for Ethiopia. He set out with a mission to destroy Ethiopia - to wipe it out from the world map - and has never ever entertained even the idea of being unfaithful to his mission, let alone being unfaithful. He has stuck to his mission steadfastly - sort of religiously.

Ethnic nationalism continues to be the greatest source of disorder and violence in the world. Several methods have been tried to confront it. One method is partition. If a part of a country attempts to break away, let it do so. However, partition almost always leads to bloodshed. Think of India-Pakistan, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, and Yugoslavia. But, nothing exemplifies this better than the carnage – the senseless loss of both military and civilian life – in the so called “Ethio-Eritrean” conflict. Another method is power sharing. Give the troublesome region autonomy at the local level and a share of power at the national level. Yugoslavia tried it under Tito, before everything fell apart. Lebanon tried it, sharing power between Christians and Muslims. That, too, was a total failure. The same goes for Sri Lanka and East Timor.

So far, the only method which has been proven to work is the one adopted by Pierre Trudeau, the former prime minister of Canada. Mr. Trudeau’s method involves neither partition nor special status. His idea was, instead of trying to appease groups, empower individuals by bulking up their constitutional rights. Give individuals – whatever their back grounds or beliefs – the opportunity to flourish within the existing nation. In other words, build a broader definition of the group, rather than a narrower one. In line with these ideas, Mr. Trudeau introduced a new concept called Multiculturalism, made Canada bilingual, and introduced The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which includes, among other freedoms, the freedom to move and take up residence in any province of Canada.

Various groups all over the world are trying to rebuild violence-torn nations by applying Mr. Trudeau’s idea of a civil society based on rights and laws, rather than ethnic identity. The best example is of this is the Republic of South Africa which, when it abolished apartheid, flirted with the idea of special status for blacks and minority whites, but in the end chose rights-based constitution that made every one equal. It is working quite well. However, no where in the world would Mr. Trudeau’s method be as brutally practical as in our own country Ethiopia whose people live jumbled up together - Tigre next to Amhara , Oromo besides Somali, Welayta up against Gurage. If every group in Ethiopia that considers itself a people strives to become a nation, the horrors of Yugoslavia and Rwanda will look like a child’s play. The point is not that Ethiopians should live together. The point is that they have to live together.

In conclusion, every policy Meles adopts, every measure he takes, is geared towards one and only one objective – the realization of his life long dream of creating an artificial entity called Tigray-Tigrin via the annihilation of Ethiopia. Should, God forbid, he succeed, the ensuing chaos will have catastrophic repercussions not only in the horn of Africa, but in the whole of Africa and the Middle East. Meles is thus the messenger of doom – the great Satan – who must be fought by any and every means available. He is the prime criminal of Ethiopia drenched with the blood of tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of our brave soldiers sacrificed at the battle fields of Badme, Tsorona, Zalanbesa, Barentu, Tesenney, Bure, etc. He is the prime criminal of Ethiopia, the main reason why millions of our people perished and are perishing from disease and starvation, and why millions are completely dependent on foreign handouts. He is the prime criminal of Ethiopia principally responsible for ethnic massacres in Gambella, Bedeno, Assosa, etc. He is the prime criminal of Ethiopia solely responsible for the Ethiopian version of Sharpville massacre - the cold blooded merciless gunning down of peaceful demonstrators on a broad day light - albeit in more places and in much worse scales. He is the prime criminal of Ethiopia who imprisons, tortures, maims and kills anyone and everyone who opposes his apartheid bantustan policies. He is the prime criminal of Ethiopia who orchastrated the ethnic cleansing in Welkait and other regions annexed from Wollo and Gonder. He is the prime criminal of Ethiopia singularly responsible for the plunder our land and other natural resource by grabby foreigners and greedy local collaborators. He is ..... He is .... He is ..... and so on.

We Ethiopians must never, ever, forget that this prime criminal in no way represents Ethiopia and, therefore, agreements signed by him on behalf of Ethiopia have exactly the same weight as those signed by Graziani when Italy occupied Ethiopia – they will be null and void the moment he is gone. That he will be gone and his ethnic based apartheid style Weyane regime which is rotten to the core will crumble, I do not entertain an iota of doubt. However, it is entirely up to us to make him go sooner than later before he does irreparable damage. The ultimate sacrifice paid by our martyrs' massacred in June and July 2005 - ironically dubbed "hooligans who destroy government property" by the looter Weyane which got to where it is now by assassinating opponents, mining roads, blowing bridges, robbing banks, burning depots, and intentionally facilitating, orchestrating and filming massacres such as that of Howzen - should not be in vain.

this article doesn’t make sense whatsoever. it is based on unfounded suspicions and fears that have been circulating in the populace informal y for decades. It seems to paint a disturbing image that the Tigrains are ultimately the beneficiaries of the regime while all the evidence witness that the Tigray people are as much suppressed other Ethiopians. It is unacknowledged anger toward them and distancing of the Tigrains, technically no different from the EPRDF rhetoric and practice. Lets talk about Ethiopia.

This is the best ever analysis in relation to the TPLF (Tigray’s parasitic looting Front) true motives. No matter how and with what intensity, the tigre cadres beat, and beat, and beat, around the bush to exonerate the treasonous Meles Zenawi, he remains to be the number one enemy of Ethiopia and its people. Can a leopard change its color? That is what Tigre goons are trying their level best to do. Deliberately designing the ruling party owned and operated economic system inside the overall economic system of the country, to suck the blood of Ethiopian people; and the most recently selling of land that belongs to Ethiopia, are the full-fledged signs and symptoms of the extent to which, particularly Meles Zenawi is vehemently hating Ethiopia by extension the unity of its people which allows him to build the foundation of the future greater “Talaqua” Tigray.

Another very important characteristic to note is that, the ruling party TPLF (Tigray Parasitic Looting Front) in Ethiopia, Meles Zenawi at its helm, is not a simple type of dictator, such as other African dictators. In fact, one would not find in the world, the head of a ruling party that hates, looks down on, and pays no attention to, the people he/she is supposed to administer, and yet appears on international forums claiming to represent the people he/she vehemently hates, looks down on, and pays no attention to, except in Ethiopia. He never intermingled and interacted with the society. That tells you who this guy is. Bottom line, this is the authentic picture that clearly defines Meles Zenawi and his mafia group in referrers to its relationship with Ethiopia and its people. Therefore, in Ethiopia, where the survival of the country is at risk, the struggle primarily should focus on the survival of Ethiopia and the unity of its people. The longer Melees Zenawi is left to rule on the people he vehemently hates, looks down on, and pays no attention to, and the country he is trying his level best to break it apart, the more the effect of the erosion on the unity of Ethiopian people.

Melees Zenawi and his mafia group demonstrated beyond any doubt, the hatred they have for Ethiopia and its people while they were in the forest. For example, here is what they did to Ethiopian prisoners of war as told by Gebremedhin Araya, the then financial officer of TPLF, in 1975 (EC): There were seventy Ethiopian prisoners of war. Meles Zenawi and his mafia group decided to kill all of them. They came up with a method to kill them. The method was to use cyanide. Meles Zenawi took the charge. He ordered Abadi Mesfin, the technical health assistant, to get the cyanide. Bisrat Amare, the then chief commander of the jail, brought the cyanide to the jail where the seventy Ethiopians were held. Bisrat Amare as the coordinator, fetched tetracycline capsules to be used as the delivery mechanism. They opened the capsules and emptied the tetracycline and replaced it with the cyanide. Filled the capsule with the cyanide and closed it back. The Ethiopian prisoners were told to take the cyanide filled capsules in order to protect them from meningitis. The seventy Ethiopian prisoners took it and collapsed immediately (yeweyanew talaQ sera beQedmo abalat sigaleT, p. 71). Do you sense a venomous hatred exhibited by Meles Zenawi way back then? Do you relate this genocide to the method and the manner people are killed in Addis Ababa and in the provinces? This is who Meles Zenawi was and still is. It is really very sad Ethiopia is ruled by her sworn Enemy Melese Zenawi’s TPLF (Tigray Parasitic Looting Front).

i couldn’t understand why most confused and ignorant individuals try to relate Meles or TPLF with the ordinary and mass people of Tigray under whom the people is highly oppressed more than any people in the country. please try to differentiate politics from people. it is true that the people of Tigray has bravely let his/her around 60,000 young heroes believing that they will bring peace, prosperity and unity to the country whom has been sacrificing like his fore fathers together with the other oppressed Ethiopian people. however, the dream for which he sacrificed has blown because of some selfish individuals and their divide and rule policy who made him the first and worst victim.it is also natural that the regime could have supporters from any region including Tigray. but these individuals don’t represent the mass people whom most of you is hatefully trying to insult which makes your argument nonsense and in-matured and of course with some of you knowing the truth on the ground but still unwilling to face the reality because of your hatred and uncivilized thinking. so act like a civilized people and while i know you have the right to criticize and even topple the current regime, you should realize that the people of tigray under the current regime is the most economically and politically oppressed unlike your wrongly thoughts and fabrications that the people is most favored.

“(People who ignore the truth for their well being, and people who promote it for their own wealth, because when there is WAR, there is Money for the Government).”

it is worthwhile to look at other great powers of the past. Roman empire, nazi, russia….all fallen with their surrogacy .history will repeat itself and very soon we will see the fall of dollar wipe out all the puppet depending on it.days are remaining in numbers.

Mesfin Arega,
I am sure you wrote this taking hallucinants and other drugs that people take while writing a FICTION. The diffeence from other thousands of anti-Tigray scribes is that yours makes the most voice, like an empty vessel as the saying goes “an Empty vesel makes the mosy vesel". No matter how badly you attempt to paint the good name of the people of Tigray, we will remain adhered to our mother land Ethiopia. We were, are and continue to be Ethiopians. if not us who then? Yours is not different from the thousands of defamamtions targeting the Tigreans. But yours is done foolishly and noisly.
yes thanks to our bitter struggle and winning over your the Derg, EDU, EPRP, TLF, ELF, and recently your EPLF (Shaebya). So it is no wonder that you come here make a lot of cacophony. We know that your mentor Isayas Afewerki has given you this assignmnet to defame the people of Tigray its brilliant child, Meles Zenawi though you pretend to be against shaebya in some parts of your writing. This is not new. We have seen and yet are to see a lot of other allegations. The last point is as the astray dogs bark, the determined camel keeps marching.

1.So you said TPLF orchestrated the bombardment of Hawzen and filmed it? hahahahahahahahahaha

2. So you said there are no people called Amhara, rather than people whose first language is Amharic (to your utter dismay, most of the good people of Amhara do not speak other languages apart from Amharic)? hahahahahahaa

3. So you said Tigray is enundated with roads, colleges, dams, universities, industries etc etc. You said Tigray has become an earthly mana and even can tantalize the eritreans for the ‘roadmap’ Tigray-Tigrn? hahahahaahahahahaha

4. So you said our brilliant Meles is physically and mentally ugly, but your Isayas old jackal is woderfully looking leader? hahahahahaha

All in all, the mission that shaebya enthrusted you to write this diatribe is doomed. Only shouty, noisy and flooshly lengthy insults like yours will not score a point. It shatters down and will be a subject of ridicule and laughter. That is what most readers of this article will for sure do. Good luck

Let’s talk about Ethiopia. Tigray didn’t get any kind of benefit from this government. Even if I agree with Meles dictatorial rule and should be removed from his power, I do not agree with this kind old style political analysis or old strategy to get rid of meles. The writer looks like he found out about the the TPLF manifesto today and tell us like we don’t know about it. Hello! Sir you need to come up with something new strategy because this kinds of analysis didn’t do any good for the last 20 years except feeding the cancer to get bigger and bigger. You look like you just wake up from coma. These days things are different…unity among all oppositions under one umbrella to get rid off EPRDF/TPLF. Please, no more of this kinds of garbage. Move on man and talk different and do different. We do not want to use the same thing again and again. People like you are the one who give life for this dictator. Thank you!

There are 200% Amhara.

Such as my dear friends Abera and Tiru Work.
Stop your bigotry. As there are pure Orome like me there are also pure Amharas. Amhara and Oromo will eradicate TPLF by any means. The day is not far.
Those of you who hate Amharas especially the most inferior and very wild Tigreans would like to say there is no Amhara. Why?

Tigreans are Beja nomads who invaded Axum Agaw people. These wild hordes of people have taken the land beyond the river Mereb and language of Agaw-Geez people in the 8th century AD. The Axumite Empire declined because of these barbaric invaders and the rise of Islam in the Red Sea.

Ethiopia is the museum of people.
Wehave pure Guraghe, Afar, Somali, Hadya, Kambata, Sidamo, Jarso, Itu, Nole, Arsi, Tulama, Mecha, Jilee, Gamo, Agaw, Shinsha, Gonga
Hence leave the Amhars alone.

The traitor Bandas are Tigrean. As Italian Ascaries were Tigreans. Melese Zenawi and his father were Italian Ascaries.

Any Tigre Banda is sooner or later will pay a high price. That is dead sure. TPLF is a western stooge. Is destined to perish.
Ethiopia will prevail!!

Mesfin Arega, this is absurd, you can not distibguish between facts and fictions. I know why you decide to doubt Ethiopia’s attack on the three Eritrean training camps, The president of Eritrea has sent a letter to the UNSC via his foreign minister. This indicates Shebiyas indirect admission of the assault which destroyed three military camps.

Get your facts straight, now people like you who wanted to use Eritrea as a safe heaven to attack Ethiopia have started to pay the price. Ethiopia will not fold its arms and get attacked by Eritrean sponsored terrorists. The attack is a warning to those ethiopians who are stationed in Eritrea, Ethiopias capacity to penetrate deep inside Eritrea and obliterate its enemies is a warning to everyone with an evil intent.

Mesfin Aregas article sounds as if its written from the crambling trenches of shaebiya. Wait there till we turn your trenches into your graveyard. The Ethiopian government is capable of recycling kings of doom and gloom into a better use. Watch how things unfold in the coming few months, if Eritrea launches another attack Ethiopia will go again and hunt down leftovers of G7,OLF,TPDM and other terrorists. Weyanes are kings of the jungle.

Dear Peace, your one written-paragraph explains better than the low-self-esteemed Mesfin Arega. if we are talking about Ethiopia, lets talk about Ethiopia and not Tigrians, Tigray-tigrigna, Meles, Assab. The writer himself sounds more tribalist than Meles. For example almost every Ethiopian is aware and is sad that the ports are now with Eritrea but is it right to say “we have the right to reclaim our ports"? What about caring atleast for the people who are residing in it and thinking how we have to find ways to make peace with them? Neftegna ideas (im superior, one-culuture, one people, one tribe, one religion etc) are dangerous and is one of the main reason that we lost Assab/Eritrea for the second time. They were reunited with their Ethiopian brothers but the fullish emperor decided to impose his Neftegna ideas.

And the issue of Tigray taking land from Gonder is pure fiction and spoken out of frustration. Is there a word in Amharic such as: Enda Mehoni, korem, azebo, alamata, welkait, humera and tselemeti? How you pronounce them is ur choice but the meaning is the most important. All these areas were administered by Gonder and Wollo in the past (Neftegna divide and rule) and now they are brought back to where they belong. You divided the Tigrigna speaking people into two (Tigry & Mereb Melash/Eritrea) and now you fear that they are gonna be reunited. Don’t fear because you have done a huge damage that they are not able and will not reunite atleast not until Isayas and Meles die. Rest in peace.

I’ll be surprised if this guy is not a member of Shabiya thug.
If by chance I’m mistaken then he is just a weirdo with some OCD or any other fancy psychological disorder of the day.

The entire analysis is very much outdated and holds no drop of water.
If Meles is the enemy of Ethiopia, why didn’t he dismantle the country in the last twenty years? Who on earth stopped him from doing so.
As you already said he has all the power to dictate his wishes.
If he hates Ethiopia as deeply as you describe him, why does he work hard to prosper the country?
Why does he work day and night for the Abay dam, why should he fight other separatists like the OLF tooth and nail?
And don’t ever try to fool us by putting some empty words that you like Tigrayans and you don’t mind if you see them prosper.
That is not true. But for your information, it is not only Tigray, the whole nation is growing in an amazing fashion.

So, please save your energy for some other ploy. The one you employ is busted long ago

Ato Mesfin, very good job!
Allow me to just highlight one very basic truth you presented that any self respecting person of Ethiopian origin should bear in mind.

“I am not a fan of the term “Amhara”. Our tumultuous history – the “invasions” of Yodit and Gran, the Oromo “expansion” northwards, the Menelik “expansion” southwards, and the continual relocation of the capital city of Ethiopia – has made it more so.”

“It follows that, at least in the case of Ethiopia, ethnic purity is nothing but a pure lie - a political ploy employed by the likes of Meles Zenawi and some other leaders of the so called “liberation fronts” including those who claim to “represent the Amhara””

Thank you for sharing your fantastic, revealing analysis!

The land you claim taken by Meles to Tigray used to be part of Tigray before Haileslasse took it from Tigray after First weyane. There is no much of Industrialization of Tigray than The Amhara or The south region of Ethiopia. There is more progress or Industries built in Oromo, Amhara and South region than in Tigray. There is no even a dissent road build between Axum and Adwa.

I have read what you put forth in its entirety with a great interest and I have to say that was a well assessment, examined character behavior of Melse Zenawie. There is absolutely no doubt he is on to something. I hope we are not late waking up discussing real issues that matter to us the most but either way identifying it now is a the way to start. This man Melse has deceived us. The sooner we realize what went on we will be able to save our country from her demises.

The heart of the problem is there’re those who are used to accomplish this mans plan ignorantly. That helps this man to maneuvers easily without any problem toward his objection that is as you clearly & eloquently mentioned above. He does have a devoted supporting group like a cult whom he relies on to execute his devious objective. Lets be honest they are doing a good job from keeping us away to the core of the issue and always distracting us. We lack unity, trust, determination to the things that matter the most to us our survival depends on it. I do hope and pray we have learned that. One thing need to be mentioned is his hard core supporters are who’s tangled up with ethnic afflation or those who does not have ethnic relation sold their soul to get crumbs from the loot. Those who support this man are shares the same ideology mainly from Tigray & Eritrean ethnic. We should not shy away from the truth it must be said as it appears on the ground, lets not camouflage is what I’m saying.

We are in this predicament because we pay little to none attention for the enemy within. Yes, I will say it again the enemy is able to accomplish our final burials because of our willful ignorant and denial. Melse is a single person he needs numerous sympathizers followers who does share his ideology. Yes, he found that within Tigray and Eritreans. Anyone who doubts that is buried his head in the sand. The same ideology binds them in the wilderness fighting Derg the same still keeps them in secret. They’ve much more in common things that separate them. lets keep it real. When it comes to the distractions of Ethiopia they are one inseparable.

I think any organization we may forum that have a lasting result for our survival have to exclude this two enemy’s within. I will say it again Tigray & Eritreans they are more sympathizers to their own clans/ethnics than the greater cause of our Ethiopia. I think we need to be serious about this issue yes there maybe some who will be uncomfortable with excluding. Go back to Ethiopia and take a good look at the reality on the ground and talk to me after that. Those who keep denying the enemy within soon after they sold the country they’ll start to negotiate to sell your body organs then may be you’ll wake up!

this guy reminds me of the man i spoke about 15 years ago who told me “there will not beethiopia in 10 years"! and boy did i believe him..lol..but thanks to the almighty Godethiopia is not only alive but she seems to be better than she was 15 years ago, according to many witnesses even including those who oppose meles. also the fact that OLF seems to be dropping the 50 years old independent mission and ONLF withering down doesnt support his assessment that “ethiopia has never been on the cliff edge like today". as to the access to the sea, that is one issue that burn allethiopians but, in due time ifethiopia develops its economy and continue to grow, there is no question the two nations will work out some kind of arrangement. the other alternative we have which this guy is wishing for is to go to war and i am sure the majority ofethiopians will choose the former. regarding the grand scheme of tigray-artera, it just seems too far fetched. first of all tigray is not meles, ithas over 4million people who are asethiopian as any one else, so why would they render theirethiopiawinet, for one man???. all in all this is the usual I-the-angel Vshe-the-devil line of thinking.

An article by a terrified member of reaction - Those who continue to mesmerize the archaic feudal- oligarchy of the now gone system are so mystified by the ongoing changes in the country that they vent their outrage on sites such as this one. For these unrepentant bigots, the emergence of Ethiopian nationalism that is inclusive and unprejudiced is translated as dismantlement and retrogressed of their beloved system that existed before 1974. That system was wherein about seventy percent of the citizens were humiliated and subjugated by handful members of the ruling gentry. That system was wherein all of the citizens dwelled in hunger and misery. For the first time an Ethiopian government that championed a genuine Ethiopian nationalism emerged under the EPRDF in the modern history of the country, despite some of its pitfalls. At least every member of the people is recognized to have a share in pursuing a dream of wellbeing from whatever the country is able to offer without explicitly or implicit discrimination based on ethno regionalism. ‘The proof of the pudding is in the eating’ - One needs to look at undeniable developments especially since 2000 that are measurable and more inclusive. Today, for example, the cabinet ministers are a makeup of all domains of Ethiopians that is unprecedented and was unthinkable under the previous regimes and systems. It is these significant undertakings that are utterly dismembering the old order that is also terrifying the likes of Mesfin Arega. They of course dare not say their causes are squared against the will and the determination of the people – They are petrified of the consequences – instead, they spout their fury against the leading architect of the transformation from the transition in our country. These creatures will surely be remembered as an example of a wild animal that is frantically gasping to survive after being shot by a hunter before its inevitable death.

Not only is Zinawi terrorizing the whole country,he is also giving a signal to the rest of his agents to follow his order and implement it when they want it with or without him giving them the go-ahead signal either to kill or to cleanse.

The oreder came directly from Zinawi’s office, and the agents who were on the command post took the order from Zinawi and put it into practice,as a result,we horrifyingly watched and witnessed the crime being committed on children and their families.yes, while the perpetraters were busy in cleansing and poisoning their victims,Zinawi and members of the crimefamily were delighted in seeing every devlish deed they do to Ethiopians is accomplished step by step;we should not simply think what next zinawi will do;rather,we must act individually to stop Zinawi and zinawians from the dispecable crimes that they are committing on all the citizens.

Ethiopians,we must first take the crime committed by Zinawi as an important and burning issue and all go out and protest.Who are the actors and what interest are at stake?

We have to illuminate the landscape of the issue.By the way, there won’t be any individual or citizen who won’t be afftected by Zinawi committing crime at different time and in different places;so,we have to act individually as well as collectively. We have to mapping out the issue ie the latest crime that zinawi is committing on innocent citizens and the distruction the zinawi’s agents and armed men and women caused on the country and its people.Zinawi has become much worse than a serial killer. When Zinawi is turned more crazy, what he thinks is,creating more and more sorrow and distruction just help him going through his criminal daily life. This devil is hopelessly in congnizant of the agreagated crimes that he has committed and is well aware of what sort of judicial punishment he is going to be awarded. This is why this ugly monster is pressing his agents to not wait for his order to cleanse and kill citizens.

Zinawi will never become a champion;early in his criminal career,Zinawi campained terror on citizens in villages, towns, and cities and carried out raids on villages, curches, and robbery on banks and murder and killings on citizens. In 1991 Zinawi came into Ethiopia with a head full of hate and dislike towards Ethiopians.Time favored the robbers and invaded Ethiopia;they had a lot of guns and bullets to murder and loot Ethiopians;they then immediately scattered out allover and accross the country and rushingly moved into villages, towns, cities, and neighbourhoods;they then broke into homes and vandalized the life of families.

Ethiopians, the best way of kowing the enemy is by what it did,by what it does, and by what is planning to do.One can not throughly know Zinawi by simply looking at his picture or body movement.when he speaks,he speaks less, but when he does crimes againsdt Ethiopians,he does it little by little;this is not what he is;rahter,it is what he is doing what makes him he is.From the time that Zinawi went out to the jugle and organized criminals to the day, yesterday, the crime that he committed, one can easly deduce that Zinawi has the beginning and the end.We will end Zinawi’s crime;we will retaliate Zinawi with victory;we will capture and arrest Zinawi and chain him from top to bottom and make him crawl on his knees inside and outside the places where he committed crimes. The citizens that he uprooted their livelyhood are in deep shock and freezing trauma;it will take time, especially for the children to recover from deep shock they absorbed, but in order for them to quickly recover from the wound infilced upon them by Zinawi,Zinawi must be captured as soon as possible. There is always one hero who is out there, there are also individuals who are already born and witnessed the crime that Zinawi committed from the time that he stepped into Ethiopia;all and above, heroes are out there to carry out their duties.Zinawi did not get a chance to see Fascist italians committed crimes on Ethiopians, but he inherited the knowledge and the methodes from the askaris and bandas on how and when to put it into practice.Definitely, those who brought this monster into this world must have been irrisponsible and haters of Ethiopians.

Guys,
Do not confuse yourselves with uncountable excuses and evil thoughts of woyane and their cadres. We need to differentiate and see clear picture of what is going on inside our communities and surrounding our area and in every corner of our society.
We need to think clear and learn who is who? We need to learn about all our neighbours and their intentions upon Ethiopia. Instead of paroting what woyane propaganda is, we should use our common sense and differentiate what is true and false.
Lets take our neighbours S.Sudan/Sudan. They been brothers for decades and just broke-up as two nations. But does that mean they cannot be good neighbours and friends in the future? Probably. We need to see things on its positive side and expect the best, if we mean for a peaceful horn of africa. So lets say the sudan case is solved peacefully and here we have got calm and harmony on east-west side of our border. Go to south, our Kenyan brothers would have an agreement with S.Sudan for mutual cooperation. We should be thankful and join our hands to share their cooperation and gain in between. When it comes to Somalia, woyane is trying to play polis between Somalis. Woyane’s policy is -Divided Somalia is Calm Ethiopia (Ogaden)-. To the opposite, the united and harmonous Somalia would create development and confidence to Ogaden. The people of Ogaden, we like it or not have their roots in Somalia. They speak their language and they have same religion. Ogadens eventhough we Ethiopians deny them their rights, Ogadens have a lot in common with Somalis and bloomished Somalia would make Ogadens life easier and our people would get double choice to enjoy life peacefully with both parts. When it comes to Djibouti, it is our lifeline as far as we cannot negotiate with Eritrea peacefully. So we need to keep our connection with the smallest but delicate part of the puzzle effectively. Eritrea, Eritrea yes when it comes to Eritrea, it is foolish to deny that we have used our capability in a wrong way. We would have gained a lot from Eritrea, if we would be kind to them, but unfortunately what we are doing against eachother now is what we have done to them for years. We looked down at Eritreans and abused them inside their territory, just as woyane are doing in Ogaden now. We have missused our power against all in our environment. The most complicated and hard to understand point is what Woyane is doing to Eritreans now. I thought woyane and EPLF had an agreement to lead both countries together. As soon as woyane came to power, he started sending back all Eritreans by force and there something went wrong between the two. Loosing their confidence woyane started to see everyone as their enemy. Instead of solving insider crises peacefully, they used voilence against demonstrators in Addis. They killed many innocent and imprisoned opposition parties and the same method has continued for years now and woyane definitely lost to the control people’s trust. Woyane created more enemies than friends both inside and outside the country and I am sure all the above would come and End up the Chapter together and harmonise the zone.
Peaceful Ethiopia is the stream of Peaceful Horn.

Go to south, our Kenyan brothers will have an agreement with S.Sudan for mutual cooperation. We should be thankful and join our hands to share their cooperation and gain in between.
When it comes to Somalia, woyane is trying his dangerous game which is not good for our diplomacy Somalis-wide. Ogadens, eventhough we Ethiopians deny them their rights, have a lot in common with Somalis and developed Somalia would contribute on Ogadens which makes life easier for our people, they would get double choice to enjoy peaceful environment amongst both parts.
When it comes to Djibouti, it is our lifeline as far as we cannot negotiate with Eritrea peacefully. So we need to keep our connection with the smallest but delicate part of the puzzle effectively. I said delicate because woyane is pushing so hard on our Afar tribe hunting them from inside bordering Eritrea. Afars are very much connected to eachother and would make it worse for Ethiopia through Djibouti Afars for revenge. There we have to be very careful not to lose their trust.
Last but not least, when it comes to Eritrea, it is foolish to deny that we have used our capability in a wrong way. We would have gained a lot from Eritrea, if we would be kind to them, but unfortunately what we are doing against eachother now is what we have done to Eritreans for years. We looked down at eritreans and abused them inside their territory, just as woyane are doing to Ogaden now. His Majesty has missused his power against them and again Derg was worse.
But the most complicated and hard to understand point is what Woyane is doing to Eritreans now. I thought woyane and EPLF had an agreement to lead both countries together. As soon as woyane came to power, he started sending all Eritreans back by force and there something went wrong between the two.

This is the most pesmistic view I ever read in this site. The hateful writer has raised so many disturbing issues based mainly on assumptions, lies and fallacies of facts about the past and present situations of the country.

I am one of the millions of Ethiopians who believe the country must have an outlet to the sea. But Unlike the writer I do not believe that neither Meles nor his government are the only respossible people for depriving our sea ports. All governments of the past, even Menelik who has been the vanguard of our freedom and that of Africa cannot escape the blame, because he had signed many pacts with Italians with regard to Eritrea and with France with regard to Djoubti, although one may genuinely argue that Menelik had no choice at the time. Nevertheless, one cannot deny the basis for the troubles in Eritrea had been the feeling of Eritreans that they have been sold to colonial Italy. With regards to Djoubti, that country was leased to France for 99 years by Menelik, and that period had lapsed when Mengistu was in power. What did he do about it? He surely had more chances to reclaim the port of Djoubuti than Menelik who had exhausted his military power after defeating the colonialists. But the writer is so bias and hateful that he had not even mentioned about the role of Mengistu in depriving the country its sea port.

With regard to the ambition of greater Tigray and the ploy of Meles about ultimate destruction of Ethiopia, and the unification of Tigray and Eritrea, these can only be described as ridculous fantacy of the writer. If the ambition of the TPLF and EPLF were to devide Ethiopia into two countries of north and south, they would have done so during the struggle against the Derg. But the fact of the matter is that the two groups had completely different agenda that are clrealy shown at the end of the struggle. The truth is that EPLF and Isaias’s struggle had been for separation from Ethiopia while TPLF and Meles’s sacrifice had been for one Ethiopia- a democratic properous country where all its citizen’s are equal in every aspect of their earthly life. So no matter how much you try to distort events the fact of the matter is that Meles and TPLF along with other alike fronts united to form the EPRDF that is today achieving positive things for the country that are well recognised world over. According to recent international publications, Ethiopia’s economy is the 3rd fastest growing economy in the world.

With regard to the annexation of land to fulfil greater Tigray is not an issues as long as Tigray remains part and parcel of Ethiopia. Past governments had also allocated to one region by taking is from another for various reasons but had not been condamned or even critised. For your information the lands that the current government had taken from Gonder and Wollo were once part of Tigray, and parts that are given back to Afar were added to Tigray by previous governments. People in those areas are also Tigrigna speaker and in those areas incorporated into Afar also speak Afar. So for practical reasons it makes sense to put together people that share the same language. I think this is a basic humanitarian and democratic right of such people to live together sharing the same language and culture for all practical reasons.

With regard to the claim of unequal and unparallell development and prosperity of Tigray compare with other regions is again a lie and sheer fabrication of the writer. As in the past Tigrayans today are also struggling to survive. The ordinary Tigrayan has given his/her life for freedom of the country and to bring about justice, equality and prosperity to Ethiopia. They are pleased to see these things are taking place today. Since the writer claims that Tigray has developed at the expense of other regions of the country, can he provide readers hard evidence prove his claim to every one?

Long Live Ethiopia.
