It is only PR. I dought its motivetion is Charity, because most of the people who are helped by the gentle man is young people who can help themselves or national celebrties.

Watching this video and reading some of the comments here makes me wonder if at all we Ethiopians are capable of objective reasoning. I would not want to take anything away from this man, I would be silly if I did, because he must have been doing something right to be where he is. But the way Ethiopians react to his riches has been incensing me since I first heard his name in the mid 1990s.

What is it that makes us so awestruck by the size of this person’s wallet? I admit some see him as a treacherous hired hand with an ulterior motive to convert Ethiopia in to an Islamic state, but there are others who talk about him the way one would talk about the Prophet Mohamed or Lord Jesus Christ himself - a God incarnate among us, worthy of our praise and worship, a selfless humanitarian and philanthropist. The way this man is worshiped in Ethiopia sometimes makes me wonder if any man, not just woman, in Ethiopia would refuse to bend over for him in full public glare on the streets of Addis and take it up the arse on the unlikely occasion this man decides to bat for the other team (sorry for the vulgar figure of speech there: I guess it shows how strongly I feel about this subject). I suppose abject poverty has reduced my country men and women in to subservient zombies who would not refrain from selling their soul to the devil himself for a little loose change - not that I think he is the devil, far from it.

Should we be worried about this unswerving blind loyalty and personality worship that has become one of the hallmarks of the Ethiopian psyche? I say we should. Loyalty is costly when it is misplaced. Oftentimes those who miss place their loyalty do it willingly with the hope of short term gain. But there are also those who genuinely fail to see whatever ills their “idol “might be doing to them and to others. Take for instance our fellow citizens who swear by Meles Zenawi or Hailu Shawel. What ever their motives are, they can not take away the fact that Meles and Hailu alike have done enormous damage to our country and they continue to do so. The inconceivable and sad reality that these individuals could garner immense worship and adulation from a significant section of the Ethiopian public does not do any thing to discourage present and future would be autocrats from washing their hands with the blood of innocent Ethiopians. At the end of the day, if Meles and Co. could kill with impunity and still be held with respect, and if Hailu Shawl, a former Derg official, could be viewed as a democrat and get elected in to government, then why should the thieves, cheats and murderers who are in Meles’s government and in the countless -LOs, -PDOs and -LFs feel the need to reform their ways?

As for Mr Al Amoudi, he is not doing Ethiopia or anybody a favour. He is an astute businessman who is simply following the scent of profit. Anyone with the unfettered access to the authorities and untouched riches of a land like Ethiopia with virtually non-existent competition would make the choice he made to invest in Ethiopia over and over again.

Some of the comments here just amazes me. How could u guyz have the guts to cretesize some one who is helping not one or two but hunderds of thousands of ppl creating jobs and feeding their families..? what this man is doing is something no Ethiopian has done in its entire history…no body is forcing him to ivest his bilions in that country..he could have invested it anywhere be it asia europe north america or even on some other country..he’s not someone like u and me..he is an international of only few Billioners in this place we call planet.
When was the last time any of here have donated or sent even a penny for the distraught…poor…for the ill..needy of ur fellow men and women..? dont say u can’t afford it or u r n’t able to….as long as u have a slightlety better life than the one next to always can help that person if u have the desire..tell me when was the last time any of u made someone smile, cry in happiness and thankfulness…when was it..? all u like to do is putting someone doing the right thing down…actually i care less to what u all have to say about this man because i know he’s the most beloved person in the eyes of most of ethio ppl right now….the attitude about him has changed so so’s hard to find someone critiszing him for what he has done and is in that am happy and u all need to wake up and smell the reality..God Bless

Poverty is terrible and ugly no matter where it is and charity begins at home! Put yourself on the ground needing help and see what your attitude would be. As we saw in the videos everyone has a unique and sad story to tell. Witnesses said that the family Sheik Al AMoudi were helping many people in their community and now their son is following their foot prints. What this country needs is more people like the Sheik Al AMoudi in helping the poor and the sick because a life is worth more than anything. Many bloggers in write only about destructive politics, negative comments about each tribe, divisive comments and bashing each others rather than humanity.

Sheik Al Amoudi’s generosity and love for his country is a big satisfaction for him psychologically and emotionally. We brought nothing with us when we came into the world and we can take nothing with us when we go from here. Those people in these videos think they are poor but they are rich in *faith. I am all for assisting those in need and believe we as a people should help our family, neighbors, community and our beloved country as individuals. Ethiopia is daily bombarded with negative images and stereotypes of famine and poverty and now we are in the right path heading to progress to prove them wrong. Every Ethiopian should have an obligation to its own people and work to remove its own poverty not only Sheik Al AMoudi! Be Ashmed of yourself and stop negative comments about this man who has done a lot to help the needy!

For me Al Amoudi is the greatest thief alive. He is sucking and looting the wealth of Ethiopia with his collaborators the NORTHERN BANDAS. He can go back to Saudi where he came from and belongs. He is no Ethiopian, has never been Ethiopian or will he ever be Ethiopian. How much did he pay for this garbage documentary?

Invest in your country wherever it is Ethiopia or Eriteria. Al-Amoudi is one of a kind a classic example of a rich and generous. Regardless of your analysis and reasoning he and his money with his investment consultants have changed the economic landscape of ETHIOPIA. Can I ask the lucky and fortunate diasporas go and see for yourself in Ethiopia and judge.
