Bloggers in Ethiopia

Just a small percentage of Ethiopians have access to internet and an even smaller part understand proxies. Because I am one of them I am regularly asked what the news is. Meaning that because I read foreign sources I know more what’s going on in my country then people that have no access to it. But if they had, they would be voracious readers.
The government may have had the thought that they could stem the publics 'over politicized-ness'.The reality is it needs just a spark and the freedom fires will burn like ever before. They are doing all they can to hold information back from the public.

The blogs that others and me write are mainly for the consumption of the Diaspora.
So Addis Ferenji could come back to Ethiopia, wrote about how people detest the ruling parties'kebele meetings and visited the Kaliti jail to speak to the imprisoned members of the opposition. Then she announced she would be silent. So what happened? They told her that mr. Ferenji could come into trouble? Maybe the expensive lobby bureau in Washington needed some ammunition. So they let her come, let her write her blogs and presented it to congressmen in the United States. They did not take a big risk. What could AF reveal we do not already know. That the Oromo population are not very keen about the ruling party? Or that African jails are less convenient than an European horse stable? Read the annual human rights report made by the State Department and you be amazed what they know about Ethiopia.

Ethio-Zagol’s seminawork.blogspot is regularly visited by me. He/She is a very well informed person who is writing it. He, or she for that matter, knows what’s going on in the streets, but also gives accurate account of what’s happening in the courtroom during the trial against the opposition leaders, journalists and civil society members. We get information as deep as the Crime Ministers Office. He knew that Bereket ‘Goebbels’ Simon, alias Baghdad Bob, had a stroke, was hurried to Israel and that his wife had rushed to the bank to get money to pay for the doctors. He even knew that probably for publicity reasons Bereket ‘Goebbels’ Simon, alias Baghdad Bob was brought to the party conferences but left as soon as the cameras had his appearance on tape. Thanks for the information Ethio-Zagol.
Probably the Mafia Gang sees no reason to hide this kind of information anymore. They have noticed that it works to their disadvantage, specially when the Diaspora is using it as an argument to reveal their undemocratic nature.

What about me? I wished I was better informed about what’s going on. But that’s Ethiopian reality. I remember calling abroad to hear what was going on when the munitions depot exploded in 1991.
But let me try to remain a pain in the ass for the Mafia Gang and their servants. Ethiomedia.com, Ethiolion.com, EthioDenhaag.com, Ethioforum.org, Debteraw.com , Nazret.com and others are all blocked because they bring more than news. They openly support the democratic movement and encourage the organization of resistance.

Dear Urael,

Many thanks for your tireless effort informing us. It means a lot to me personally. I clearly understand that you are undertaking a huge personal risk to get us informed. It is my daily prayers that the Almighty God shield you from the hand of these blood thirsty devils.

Please keep up with the good work, keep the freedom candle burning.
And as you beautifully said it “remain a pain in the ass for the Mafia Gang and their servants”. I also truly agree with what you said, together some how we need to strike the spark and let the freedom fire burn like ever before.

At present I feel the Ethiopian people are hostages of this mafia gangs including us living in the Diaspora mainly to meet their aid grabbing objectives, seems so far their strategy worked at the expense of the suffering of our people. I agree with you saying “The anti terrorism arguments are just pretences to stay in power. The Gang has always been keen to jump on the bandwagon. It used to be the aid industry and now it is anti terrorism”.
The west countries seem knowingly sucked in the trap and collaborating with the devils. I think we need to unite to restore the dignity of our people ourselves. I really hate to hear high expectations of freedom from the West.

Prove me if I am wrong but most of the Ethiopians in the West as the likes of the Yiracheefe’s call us we are parking lot attendants or toilet cleaner’s so forth however what they fail to understand is we are in some little way contributing to the economic growth of the West, the West clearly know our contributions, they call it “some one has to do the dirty job”, we are those someone’s or simply the ones maintaining their living standard. On the top of that we bloody pay tax which is an added advantage, so you guys really think the West wishes us a true freedom? I don’t think so. Please let’s pin the hope of freedom in ourselves.

You see my personal motivation stems from the likes of Abebe Bikila, Mamo, Miruts, Haile, Kenneisa, Derrartu, Fatuma, Dibaba, Mesert etc too many heroes to name, I think we Ethiopians need to learn a lot from our patriot world champions, they simply time and again win, win and win because of hard work and determination. We can do the same in every front we can free our people at last from misery if we unite, work hard and be determined to the cause of democracy.

Many Thanks again!

Your admirer Turae.

Urael,
don't be discouraged. we follow your blog everyday. seminawork has some connections but the reality is that is how you get info in Ethiopia. This does not reflect badly on you. It is a reflection of the US supported occupation TPLF goverment's policy. Let me make a suggestion: Give us info that you see daily.. Price of goods(weekly or monthly comparison). Give us updates on govt officials, especially the ones that don't appear in public.and so on.
Carry on my friend.

What a pure white lie! I was in Ethiopia during the EPRDF conferences and had the chance to sit down and meet with Berket Simon, advisor to Meles Zenawi. It was a fun moment. He is a very smart charismatic and well read person. Nonetheless, your lies won't succed on the backstreets of Meskel Square so don't try.

Even if it is not the only one, the solution for our country will come from the militaty side.

Whether they are from tigrays or not, those who stays now in the military, are waiting for their chance. There are exprienced soldiers, generals and so on who doesn't support melese any more.

There are even Agazi soldiers who will not kill there brothers any more.

So, the crime minister are runnig out of not only time but also persones who will follow him.

I have a dream.

On day I will wake up and click on the link where I store the Ureal page and read the folling:

It is over!!!
Dear brothers and sisters Ethiopia is free now.

And the next day I buy a plan ticket for five thousend Euro (since every body is looking for those tickets) and fly to Addis Abeba.

Comming to Bole I will see people comming from all over the world who are crying and dancing at the air port and every where.

In stead of going to my parents thsi time I will give the visit for mother Ethiopia and will walk from bole to Pisa enjoing, crying and dancing with Tedi Afro music and giving the money I have to the poors . Even the agazis and other tigres are dancing with us, since the ethiopian people will give them mercy and there will be no revange.
The new gov. will announce the whole weak as a hollyday.

The democracy in ethiopia will start. The whole matured man power of ethiopians from all over the world will meet in ethiopia and develop the country and those who have money will invest. Ethiopia will be the china for afrika.

I had a lot of dreams which have be fullfield and I know this one will be also true sooner than I think.

In sha Allah! I am praying in Remedan for this.
