Addis Ababa, Ethiopia July 16, 2007 (WIC) - Leaders and members of the CUD who were convicted of charges of treason in connection with the unrest that followed the May 2005 elections have asked the Government and people of Ethiopia for pardon, the Office of the Prime Minister said later on Monday just after the Federal High Court handed down sentences.

The vocal diaspora is out of touch with reality, once again. This does not say much about diaspora, except that they believe in their own fantasy. This denial that there is no government in Ethiopia is part of the problem. EPRDF had committed a few mistakes. But these few mistakes, like rendering Ethiopia land locked, have great negative weights.

EPRDF believed in equality
of nationalities and organized the nation as such. It has a ratified constitution which gives equal rights and responsibilities to the citizens. And, as such it has justice system emanating from the constitution etc. Today that system found the CUD leaders guilty and sentenced them to life in prison. The CUD leadership, after playing bluff for two years found out the hard way that this government meant business, and asked for pardon, after admitting their mistakes. The same diaspora that got the CUD leadership into prison by supplying false and misguided hopes, continues to spread lies, saying that the signatures are forged etc. The vast majority of diaspora appears to be not informed well about situations in the homeland.
Today justice is handed down, right or wrong, and the bravado filled CUD
leadership is humiliated, by its own making, and asked for pardon. Diaspora that is reality. Denial is not a strategy for success.

Please don't be taken aback by this face-saver game to relieve tplf unbearable pressure from inside and out.
