Ethiopia - Formation of UDJ does not at all usher in a new era
By Saba
Birtukan Mideksa might have won the hearts of some of the 350 members gathered on that day in Ethiopia, but not mine and millions of other Ethiopians‘. It is preposterous to suggest that the 80 or so million strong Ethiopians have fallen head over heals in love with her.
Formation of UDJ or what ever it is called does not at all usher in a new era in Ethiopian politics. If any thing, it upholds and reaffirms the status quo - power struggle, disloyalty and infighting. UDJ is by all measures a self defeating organization. It can not advocate unity when it is born out of disunity and rebellion.
If Birtukan and her co-rebels were as smart and as democratic as they would have us believe, they would have submitted themselves to the rules and regulation of CUD. No one can dispute Hailu Shawal behaved in a very embarrassing and anti-democratic manner when he suspended some of them, but that can not be an excuse to follow his suit and behave in an even more anti-democratic manner that damaged their creditability for ever. As a result, the Ethiopian people are more divided and the opposition more weakened and fractured . Hailu, Birtukan and her rebel friends should shoulder the lion’s share of the blame.
It is only the murderous despot Meles Zenawi and TPLF who have come out winners out of this sorry saga, not the pseudo- democrat Birtukan and her rebel friends and definitely not the millions of starving, destitute, disease ridden, and oppressed Ethiopians.
To my mind the bunch of idiots have shot themselves on the foot by setting up a renegade organization instead of remaining in CUD and ousting the weak, clueless and despotic ex-Derg official Hailu using the rules and regulations of the party. Their failure to do so is a clear indication of, at best, their thin support base with in the party, at worst, their anti democratic credentials and non existent political and diplomatic skills. Now we should ask how this idiots could unite an increasingly fractured and polarized society of millions of people like ours if they could not hold together a clearly disintegrating party of few hundred members. I think there is a distinct possibility that if ,God forbid, one day they take power in Ethiopia, they would go on and form another country for themselves by rebelling against our laws if they find we disagreed with them or we did not like them, or we wanted them out of office.
Mark my words, soon enough rebellion will brew in UDJ, and we will see another reneged party spring up out of it. No one needs a crystal ball to foresee this: it is the natural order in Ethiopian politics. In fact, it is the natural order in Ethiopian life. Even Ethiopian churches, the most sacred of institutions, are not immune from this disease. Tolerance and compromise are bywords in Ethiopian life.
It seems to me Ethiopians submit only to the rule that there is no rule. We are loyal only to disloyalty, well unless a gun is pointed at our temple or a bundle of worthless Ethiopian Birr is waved at us. Just what makes the hundreds and thousands of Derg and TPLF officials, cadres, secret police, solders, informers and stupid and irritating diehard TPLF supporters on this site blind to the predicament of their country or the plight of millions of their fellow citizens? The answer is money. They know no truth, no right and wrong. They are devoid of morality and principles. These degenerates would sell their grandmother for loose change. They fail to see that we all could have more money, better lives, better homes, beautifully designed towns and cities, better hospitals and schools, better transport, communication and IT systems, above all peace, freedom, dignity and respect from the rest of the world if we set up a legitimate and representative government transparent and accountable to all citizens. We have a blessed, beautiful and resource rich country that could potentially be the envy of the world. Unfortunately not much good things can be said about us, the people who inhabit it.
Surely Birtukan and her peers should know that Ethiopians should break the vicious cycle of rebellion, disloyalty and violence if we were to succeed in creating a stable, peaceful, civilized and developed country free from injustice and oppression. I guess they are grafted from the same tree as Haileselasse, Mengistu, and Meles. Hope and a better future continue to elude us until we get the basics right. How I wish I am wrong!

Comment from: ፊታውራሪ Free [Member] "There are clear indications that suggest her connection with the TPLF gangs, ever since she led a rogue group to the West defying the orders of the party's chairman."What are those indicators that you are vehemently talking about to support your baseless character assassination, could you share them with us?
"How can a woman who betrayed her comrades, the party leader, and Kinijit's movement, trusted to be faithful to ordinary Ethiopians and her country?"Sir, did you forget that it is Hailu Shawul that has left alone with his 18th century arrogance and dictatorship? did you forget the fact that while Birtukan and Her comrades were promoting and explaining their cause to the people, your beloved old man was obsessively engaged with the act of blackmailing his comrades? Or did you think once you are a president, there are no rules to be followed and respected, that you are immune from adhering by and submitting oneself to the rules and other principles the party upholds? Hailu and his close friends represent only their little group and perhaps AAPO, perhaps less but nothing more. For your dismay however, the newly found UDJ is the only hope Ethiopians have left with to achieve their dream of a strong, free and democratic country. Even look at what you are doing in here, you are here to defend Hailu Shawul not Ethiopians' aspirations nor Kinijit's causes and its existence. Seems like you have absolutely accepted Hailu's own principles of his black book and that is nothing comes before his own personal glory, Nothing! Don't forget, no body has contributed more than Hailu to destroy the once vibrant Kinijit, and through that we have understood that he has always been a self obsessed and impotent leader who wasn't even willing to sacrifice his ego and the arrogance that comes with it to save the party he was in charge with. Now, if you have any facts that indicates Birtukan's woyanenet, bring it forward and do us a favor, if not Shut your stupid mouth.
