Ethiopia - Hailu Shawel Opened Kinijit General Assembly Meeting
Engineer Hailu Shawel, president of Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD) must be commended for his courage to open the Kinijit general assembly meeting today in Ethiopia. It was also broadcast live from Addis Ababa on Kinijit pal talk.
In addressing the large audience in attendance at the Kinijit general assembly in central Addis Ababa,Engineer Hailu Shawel said in his opening remarks that the road to democracy seems longer but we must keep working on it in a peacefully way until justice ultimately prevails. His speech described ongoing efforts to organize Ethiopians for future elections in Ethiopia. From South to East, to North and West - all the country of Ethiopia - we must work together for democracy. Engineer Hailu Shawel stressed the importance of new economic policies and the need to unite the country. We must also congratulate him for his vision for a better future Ethiopia.
He also appeared in court personally in Ethiopia to argued that Kinijit name belongs to his organization, that he made a convincing evidence to the judge. This is hard evidence that Engineer Hailu Shawel is working on the behalf of our voiceless Ethiopian people to build a better future for all. Please join with Engineer Hailu Shawel and his vision for the future; join the struggle with KINIJIT!
Regarding ongoing efforts about HR 2003 legislation work in Washington, DC:
1. We have sent a formal letter to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee members and staff telling them the truth about the looming catastrophe in Ethiopia . The dictatorial rule of the current Meles regime has left the population in grave danger of mass starvation. We explained to them that the United States Congress's House of Representatives' action in passing HR 2003, (UNANIMOUSLY!!!), has now given them the opportunity to join all the members of the House in providing the critical support that the people of Ethiopia so desperately need.
2. On October 2nd of last year Congress action was a major victory for Ethiopia. It is, however, just one step along the way. As you all know the road to democracy seems long but we Ethiopians, and friends of Ethiopia must work hard together for the passage of HR 2003 in the Senate. It is essential that everyone who wants democracy and human rights to be respected in our homeland must contact members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to press for a rapid vote on this bill Lobbyists and propagandist for the Ethiopian regime will definitely attempt to block or defer the vote.
3. Ethiopia faces hunger as we speak. Ethiopia has a difficult geopolitical situation as well; on all sides. Ethiopia has a major problem on its Western border caused by Sudan's border incursion; to the East with the festering sore of Somalia; and of course, the unresolved questions of the Eritrean border.
4. Senator Russell Feingold (D-WI), the chairman of the Senate's African Affairs Sub-Committee has registered his strong condemnation of the Ethiopian Government¢s new NGO law. in his prepared statement for the Senate, He has, and will continue to, insist that fundamental political and human rights be respected and defended in Ethiopia , and encourage the U.S. government and international community to use all possible levers to achieve this basic respect for key provisions of international law.
We face a year of great possibilities for Ethiopia with faith, hope, and determination. The American elections are rapidly approaching; they are just 135 days away. Let's use this period to remind our legislators that we here in the United States have a voice; a vote; and opinions to be taken into account. Unlike in Ethiopia they work for us!

Hailu Shawel, please leave us alone. you are a Derg cadre and you are replaced with majority Kijijit members led by Birtukan Mideksa. 95% of Kinijit is currently with Birtukan inside UDJ. so why are wasting your energy and confusing our people??
