Good comment, I can say that OLF truly stands for Oromo people. All of us can be withness how couragously carrying OLf'S flag while EPLEF pointing teh gun at them. I don't think you have any problem with that. The stake lies weather there will be political or economical independent afterward that they can achieve for oromo people.

This question can be answered due time, in my opinon they are on the right track. I mean, if there is a favorable condition in the country to live together, I don't think any of us have a problem. But the problem comes if the rest see us as second class citizen in our country. AS long as politics bulid on multicultural manner, and humble with democracy. There is no more joy than living with my amhara, gurage and tigray neighbours. For me difference is a beauty, if its content is respect and mutual understanding otherwise everlast fighting. Due respect your opinon, I am also afriad, that a political monopoly, while creating division among others(divide and rule), which weakening other from aquiring strength to fight doesn't lead us to democracy. when people get a choice and freedom to chose (more oppositions) than we can see progress.

To generallized my comment, I fully support AFD and to me it is ok if they work all the way through and also ok if not as long as they don't marginalized their difference with innocent peoples blood. As for me no one can speak the truth for majority of amahra except amhara political party, but in the process they can encourage the benefit of amahara if they live with the rest of the country. if it is in favour of they I mean. The same thing applies to Oromo and the rest of the counrty.

Thanks

Ato Zewudu Bekele,

Your commentary does not help the effort in progress to sign up a permanent contract to save Ethiopian Empire from all kinds of dangers posed to break it up into several pieces. The old and the current political system in this country can never lead Ethiopia an inch forward. Today we are living in different world than 100 years ago, even different world than 16 years ago, when the two global socio-political blocks were crumbled in the history of mankind for good or in different world than 32 years ago, when the OLF was established as a political organization to vanguard the rights of Oromo nation. Therefore, somebody with a thoughtful mind should pre-plan and act on his strategy to build the nation based on these facts on the ground, not on inapplicable illusions and nightmare fantasies.

Thus I believe, here you are nobody but to give a dangerous, misleading and ambiguous interpretation to the very document the Woyane regime has fabricated and distributed. In my opinion, you and TPLF are appeared to be two faces of a single coin.

Intersting article however as the author said it is "Commentary".

One issue I always observe from the Diasporas is their view/plight is the ONLY correct plight.

If you do not agree 100% then automatically you are the enemy!

My question is therefore: how can ever be only one acceptable perspective?

Here, I can sight what one of the “CUD intellectuals” have said after he heard the Unity (UEDF) party decided to join the parliament.

He disgustingly said, “what do you expect from GALA and WELAMO?.

He was directly referring to Prof. Merara (who is an Oromo) and Prof Beyene (who happens to be from the Southern part of Ethiopia).

My main concern is, don’t you think that, if we do not have a tolerant view on all ethnic groups, we will always be at each others' throats?

I believe we CAN-NOT possibly deny the very fact that “Ethiopia is a country of at least 70+ million.

Therefore, there is bound to be different views, opinions and concerns. BUT my other concern is, if we are not tolerant of each other, how can we ever be united??

Regards, Zena

Dear ato Zewdu bekele.IF you are concerned ethiopiawi ,just do your share for GOD's sake. hair spliting and allubaleta can not be injera or a cup of tea. let us win first weyanes and then we will see later.ethiopia is a mother 's of more than 80 ethnice groups. if olf will change it's word and will continue it's separatist idea the rest 79 ethnice groups even including eritreans will kick off OLF out of the ring. THAT trash article can come out only from weyane or OLF, but from some backward and corrupted groups in the name's of ethiopia.

Zewdu BEKEL, are the tru woyane agent. If you knew the new generation, you woudn't give us your hate catalyist of living together. You knew only the old generation, the generation that destroyed the ethic of our living together by setting up different political orginazation like EPRP, TPLF, OLF, EPLF. Those generations including you are responsible for the fate of today's ethiopia. Now, the time of the new generation to bring love between brothers and sisters first and to rebuild our Ethiopians with confidence.

Ato Zewudu Bekele,

I have been amazed by your conclusions as to why the OLF leadersship used the Amharic language instead of Afan Oromo and as to how that highly secret document escaped from the hands of the OLF people.

First, since its establishment OLF has never used Amharic language as its main communication tool; leave alone among its fellow members, even in occasions when conditions bring them (the OLF people) to deal with Amharic speakers. It is in our recent memory when the OLF leadership presented its cases, future plans and catastrophic consequential outcomes if the TPLF would not go as it had promised and signed in the provisional administration contract with the OLF during the formation of the transitional government in Addis Ababa in 1991. On that founding international meeting, the OLF boldly used both Afaan Oromo and English instead of Amharic language in conveying its messages.
This is just an example among thousands of documents that the OLF can exhibit to make sure that it solely uses Afan Oromo as its main language of implementation of both public and organizational activities.

Indeed, it’s offensive, mockery and blasphemy as to say that the OLF members do not properly understand Afaan Oromo, the tongue they are born with. May be Mr. Zewudu has been confused the true Oromos with those around his circle, the Oromos who do not know who they really are, those who always condemn the freedom struggle led by the OLF and who always complain that the Oromo language is not as good as a written language, but confined in a kitchen. Mr. Zewudu, I would have been very happy would you have known how extra miles have Oromo gone in the course of these 15 years to ensure that its language, its culture and its land are the most beautiful treasuries in the whole world. Tens of Millions of Oromo people are gladly using this language over the vast stretch of oromoland. High prices have been paid for this language from time to time by the Oromo people against the oppressive regimes longstandig experiences against the very system which has been inherited from ancestors to new generations of the ruling classes.

Secondly, I would like to say some words about the comment made on as to how the secret document was slipped off from the OLF leadership into the hands of Woyane. As I know, OLF does never distribute such high profile documents even to each of its central committee member; leave alone its ordinary members. OLF does have a strong organizational structure where each branch of its departments runs its own business with legally authorized personalities. Whenever any interest arises to introduce something to its members and supporters, the OLF sends out its own one or two staff members of men or women all over the world in order to meet its demands. These people are mainly contributed from the foreign affairs department office and are personally identified and responsible for anything they are committing. Therefore it is premature to evaluate that the OLF leadership carelessly distributed such an important documentation as this.

The article belongs to noone but its
true owner, the current TPLF government. I say this for the simple reason that it was written in
Amharic. Mind you, OLF writing an
inside letter in Amharic.

I also know the Oromo people very well. Its not in their nature to
write this kind of caniving deceptive letter. Read the letters
they write in different web sites
about the AFD. While toning down
their language they still use the
same way they have been talking for
thirty years. A very good examle of
how honest they are, compared to many others.

I think OLF has gone very far to improve the relationship between
different opposition parties. Hair
splitting at this juncture will help
noone. We have had enough of that

I read your 14 page baseless report. I remembered your old colonial grand father philosophy and laughed for my self. Why don't we think differently? Let us forget "old Ethiopia" and build "new Ethiopia" which might all of us love. Even, let us think to change the name if that might help from “old Ethiopia’’ to “new Ethiopia” or to other name. I am laughing when I was reading every time, a theory wrote by “semantic persons”. Why people forget “The name Ethiopia a side” and think for the “equality of individual person living on this land”? Then, if the latter question is answered among the deteriorating political environment of this country, we might able to build the country we might all love. Unless, the fear surrounding in every bodies mind “including me”, might happen in the near future. If I am thinking that I don’t want to live with my family? Is that wrong? I don’t think. But if love and equality surrender all my family, no one want to live a lone. I advice to all people like Ato Zewudu Bekele who possessed by the name “Ethiopia” to check their mind and think for the “equality of the people who live on this land.

Great “New Ethiopia”!!!!

This is a very long article with precious little in terms of adding new facts or illuminating existing ones; as far as current Ethiopian politics is concerned. But to be fair, Ato Zewdu said from the outset that these are his opinions, and God knows he is entitled to them.

Ethiopians have always known that EPLF, TPLF, OLF and all the other ethnic based liberation fronts and liberators were getting their inspirations from the same source; smelling salts leftover from the era of colonialism intertwined with the evil ideology of Marxism Leninism.

The Italians, during their occupation were doing anything and everything to alienate Ethiopians from the idea of ‘Ethiopian Nationalism’ by concocting all sorts of poisonous ideas and feeding them to the different ethnic groups. This was aimed at staving off the fierce opposition to their occupation and also as a time bomb that will explode at a later date in case they were successfully ousted by nationalistic forces. This is a routine calling card used by all former colonial powers on their dominions. The British used it in India (the split of Pakistan, Bangladesh) and all over the world, and so did the French and Italians in Africa and else where. A day does not pass with out hearing in the news, the French intervention in Central and West African states to prevent ethnic conflict among the population.

When it comes to Ethiopia, the script goes like this: There is a dominant political elite ‘Nefetegna’ (code word for Amara), that is subjugating all other ethnic groups, languages and cultures under the guise of this bogus and non existent idea of Ethiopian nationalism to foster its own language culture and religion on others to ensure its own economic and political dominance. Our resident nuclear expert ‘lekim’ uses this script at each and every one of his postings and so does economist extraordinaire ‘wozeiro condjo’ at most of her postings.

This theme always has a slight variation from one group to other. The Italians after WWII and before the referendum were telling Eritreans, that they are unique and more advanced and civilized than the rest of Ethiopians because they have been under Italian rule for such a long time. The Eritrean descendant and former BBC correspondent, Michaela Wrong actually wrote a book (I Did if for You) and told the whole world on a BBC interview that, how Eritreans were very proud of being colonized by Italy because of the advances and prestige it brought them, such as enjoying spaghetti and stuff.

As far as the leaked document is concerned, we really don’t care whether it was fabricated and/or massaged by the evil TPLF or circulated by the OLF as a work in progress. Ethiopians know that the break up of Ethiopia is still dear in the heart of Meles inc. and they also know that OLF used to harbor such sentiments for the last 30 years or so.

Getting back to the AFD, I have never seen an outfit that has generated so much passion, controversy and outcry about what it is and it is not. AFD supporters tell us it is a panacea to everything that is wrong in Ethiopia today and its opponents say it is the beginning of the balkanization of Ethiopia.

TPLF is understandably shaken to the core by this development, and has ordered all its cadres to overdrive. They are scouring the media outlets including the cyber space as mutant Kinijit supporters, decrying the betrayal of the spirit of CUDP and the legacy of the imprisoned leaders in Kaliti (talk about ‘Azagn Kibe Anguach’). It looks like the UEDF is in tune with TPLF on this though for a different reason. It looks to me the UEDF feels left out from the initial process and has decided to play the spoiler.

There is also the rhetoric of some hardcore OLF supporters who are still married to the old secessionist daydream of OLF, that is a free, independent and powerful Oromia in the horn of Africa. This group would like us to believe that OLF has the unqualified support of the entire Oromo population. There is also veiled threat coming from this group which says; you better dance to the tune of OLF and accept it as the de facto dominance force within the AFD if you want to salvage the notion of your precious Ethiopia.

I totally agree with the assertion that OLF has a lot of OROMO supporters in places like: Gothenburg, Berlin, Helsinki, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, OSLO, Amsterdam, Chicago, Minneapolis etc. One thing this group, in fact all groups tend to forget is, that Ethiopians live in Ethiopia. To the majority of Oromos the notion of secession from Ethiopia is an alien concept just like Qubbe is. Like the rest of Ethiopians Oromos want peace, prosperity, equality and respect for their individual rights.

Unfortunately, it is this silent majority that the likes of seenaa biyyaa characterize as follows (emphasis mine):

“…May be Mr. Zewudu has been confused the true Oromos with those around his circle, the Oromos who do not know who they really are, those who always condemn the freedom struggle led by the OLF and who always complain that the Oromo language is not as good as a written language, but confined in a kitchen…”

There is nothing more lethal to break up the AFD than rhetoric like these. Our jubilation when we heard the formation of the AFD was in the hope that OLF has finally decided to mend its way and is ready to stand along the majority of the Oromos to build a just and equitable Ethiopia.

The AFD so far has released two draft documents and nothing else. Based on these two scant draft documents, there is no cause for panic and not much to celebrate either. Let’s wait and see what it does in the coming days and months. At the end of the day, the AFD will stand or fall on its own merits based on how the majority of Ethiopians accept its vision if there is one.

Cheers,

-Gundan

OLF didn't distributed its papers in the Amharic version. What is posted in the websites is a translation of the Afan Oromo papers.

You can check the Afan Oromo version at WWW.dallolnews.com
So, the argument on this issue is invalid. You better focus on other issues dealt in the paper.

Ato Zewdu,
I critically read your worries. As a person who wanted the current situation of the Ethiopian empire, your comments on the so called secret paper forwarded to memebrs by OLF sounds well. But for the other Ethiopians who suffered the consequences of the age long suppression, econmomic exploitation and humilation caused by the Ethiopian ruling cliques your worries about future of the country is not a worry.

So, what I would say is, please don't always assume evil things and conclude that AFD will end up in destegration of the people of the empire. Be proactive and try to dream for better by contributing the best you can than dividing the people who wanted to bring change. If all of us positveily think and make efforts to bring freedom, equality and democracy for oppressed people, I think the integrity, prosperity and sovereinty of the country be sustained. If you and the like continue in the way you are doing your worries of disintegration of the country could definitely come irrespective of the will of the people like you. There is no way to stop the oppressed people from gaining their natural right to be free from any sort of opression.

The promotion of ethnicity in Ethiopia

Ethiopia is a multy ethnic land in the horn of Africa . even though ,the people are intermingled through marriage evanescence 3000 years its independent . there are no a such any nationality that claim to be pure from mixed blood that enable them to be separated from each other in the way EPRDF government intend to promote ethnicity in the country .

First ,when EPRDF came to power in 1991, he abolished the constitution which used to bind the different nation and nationality .the instituted his own ant Ethiopian constitution which instigate one race against another like what had happened in Rwanda and Burundi in Africa .

This kind of inciting ethnic war by EPRDF is for a simple reason, that he /EPRDF/ has an ego of remaining in power for which people will not get time to revolt against his atrocious deed against innocent citizen of the country .the other wicked game of EPRDF to promote ethnicity is for exploiting the resource of the country. When the attention of the people are diverse to ethnic problem. Although every race knew his evil and antis city away of ruling the country ,they /the citizen/ still took a strong stand to struggle the EPRDF /TPLF framed/ government to overthrow him .

Due to people resistance against him through the opposition groups formed ,EPRDF cracked down indifferently on the citizen by torturing ,killing , imprisoning in mass for which no comparison till now in any part of the world wherever dictatorial rule established on its firm base ever since people of the world started to be ruled by any form of governing bodies .

Lately after EPRDF instituted himself being the only contender for the election later came out as legal government of Ethiopia, he /EPRDF/ started to close down the office of opposition groups offices by misappropriating office documents in order to not to be any opposition group in the country which is undemocratic way of ruling a country but in work he is democratic as he always used to declare himself in which he misled the world to have wrong conception of him. To be true the reverse is true /undemocratic and dictator/..EPRDF is democrat in paper and dictator in action.
Therefore , since the EPRDF is undemocratic, dictatorial government having no mass base of the people of Ethiopia, I personally request all the democratic government of the world to abstain from helping EPRDF economically ,politically and instead put pressure that he /EPRDF/ must go away so that peoples government will be assign.

Let me remind some of you that after all, it is one single grain of sand that makes the oyster form a pearl.
Maybe after EPRDF Ethiopia will be born again as a new, more democratic nation where all tribes and religion are respected. and above all, that facto language - amarigna" will not be the language of instruction but to be thaught only as a regular language. Only then Ethiopia will prosper

Dear fellow readers

For me it so interesting to read your postings not because I support one group and oppose the other, but to know what each group has as a package for us, the ordinary people who want to live in the world of freedom. Call that freedom as Ethiopian, Oromo, or give it any other name. I have been calling my self and still do Ethiopian since my birth. I do not want demand for a change of the name but change of my status. I want to be a true citizen, I want my pride, I want my freedom as human being and freedom of my fellow citizens, call them Oromo, Amhara, Walayita, Sidama, Tigray, Agaw, Afar, Gomuz, Anyack, Gedeo, Shinichoo… my people.

Some of you comment simply on the symptom, the pain, and outcome of the sickness cuased by Mr Zewdu’s article. Only Gundan knew the sickness from among the group since he is nearer to the sickness, to my understanding. I tried to figure out that Zewdu belongs to kinjit at first for sure he is not, “ UEDF” perhaps, Wayyane likely. The pain he causes to me makes me feel that way. The sickness, I am the only right, “ the only way to democracy is the EPRDF’s way” was the poster I read ten years ago in Arsi Asela town while I was on a field tripe. The other fear “bringing Oromo to power”, Zewdus fear why, change of statuesque Zewdus fear, coming to round table and each trying to present to the decision of people “ no that is dangerous” power may go to unwanted corner. I remember a Derg official by the name Buzuayehu Alemayo saying “Ye ECHAT alama degmoo ye debubun yebelaynet lamatat new, ”. He was trying to tell us the fault of each political group they were killing one by one. I was only a junior high school student by then, I did not understand what it was all about.

As a humble citizen, I feel we have to address the main sickness of trying to deny glaring facts, tolerance, and fabrications to camouflage the true hidden agenda and try to confuse us. Don’t try to tell me that want I as a citizen want comes only from you. That only you have the prescription to keep Ethiopia alive. Perhaps you are in diaspora enjoying your life in USA or Europe with what ever status you earned in may name, or on the payroll of Wayyane, but I have been paying dearly for My Ethiopian identity. But I never forgot that there is a need for a change! I need change, I suffering under wayyanne, don’t tell me any move that did not include you doesn’t work, tell me your alternative, … it is up to me to yes, or no to it.

Don’t jus play around, be honest! Lastly, question to Mr Zewdu OLF said I did not write that document, you are insisting that they did and trying to convince us we believe you OLF should be the author, why should I believe your speculative argument also? Why are you that afraid of the AFD? ( I am not saying AFD or any organization for that matter is my choice, but it is trying to give one alternative view)

To Gundan (simin melak yawetal yibal yele), what do you want to tell when you said OLF has mass support in the cities you named? Have ever been to Ethiopia recently, or do you know the feeling of People in Oromioa? Do not full yourself in the rhetoric of what you and your likes always fabricate to undermine what you do not want and exaggerate what you wish. Let me tell you my position, I do not like CUD’s political way, but I was the witness of how many supporters they have, including the profile of the supporter. They did a great job for what they believed to do and achieved a lot. I commend the courage they took. OLF enjoys support of Oromos in Oromia more than the effort it shows to prevail. OLF is a spirit among the Oromos, albeit, a lot of weakness of the leadership. Recently, I appreciated the move they took to ally with CUD, the relatively strongest party among the rest and with opposing view to the OLF way. OLF did not go for a weak, who would probably agree with its programs. Doesn’t this show confidence, no fear of being dominated or being overtaken… doesn’t it show the same from the point of CUD? And would it be advantage for us all if these parties with popular support but opposing views would come together and in the process narrow down their differences or just agree to work in peace with each other without abandoning their objectives leaving that judgment to the people who are the ultimate decision makers, providing the country with the advantage of check and balance?

I hope all of you understand my humble concern.

Why don't you go and investigate throughout Ethiopia about their common grievance and the one that comes on top by far is "Why we have to learn their Amarigna language"? The rest of Ethipians do not want to go to school to learn this de facto language. By the way it is not the national language.

By imposing on the rest of Ethiopians to learn this language, it seems for the rest that Amhara culture is regarded as better than theirs and they have the impression that this language is imposed on them.

English should be the language of instruction from grade one. Actually this was how it was during Haile, I don't know why they changed it. And let amarigne be as a second language for who ever want to learn it.

Another point about bringing English language as a medium of instruction is those students who finished high school in Ethiopia speak english like a 2nd grader.

You can even notice on this forum the way most (97%) write in English. It is so pathetic.

But if you talk to those who graduated during Haile's era they speak English language fluently, their grammar is correct. They can express themselves beautifully. Of course we all have some degree of accent, that is not a big deal.

Just listen when Meles Zenawi speaks. PERFECT ENGLISH. By the way he graduated from that illustruous english school called, Winget. And let me add, he was a brilliant student.
