Elsewedy International, an Egyptian firm, seeks industrial zone in Ethiopia

Egyptian firm seeks industrial zone in Ethiopia

Elsewedy International, an Egyptian company that has just opened a cable factory here, has also requested for a huge plot of land for an industrial zone hosting over 40 different companies to be constructed in Ethiopia.

Foreign demands to establish huge industrial zones in the country have received favourable responses from Girma Birru, Trade and Industry Minister of Ethiopia.
Three years ago, Elsewedy entered into an agreement with the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation to jointly produce a digital electric meter. But when the company observed EPPCo and the country's huge electric cable demand it decided to establish a factory, Elsewedy Cables Ethiopia Plc, at a cost of 200 million birr.

The cable factory, which covers 20,000 sqm of land, was opened last Tuesday. The success story of Elsewedy attracted many Egyptian businessmen and also two highly ranked ministers to the launching ceremony.

Why do Egyptians want ethiopia to develope? If Ethiopia developes it will require more power and that means more demand of the Abey rever for internal use. That is not in the best interest of Egypt. When Egyptians business men come and invest in our country - they don't bring with them a platoon of elite army with them. Usually it will be composed of the owners and few trusted people that work for them.
So I don't see what is this distrustful way of seeing thing. On the contrary, these foreign business people would bring the much needed economic developments and jobs for our citizens.

As long as these business people do not interfere in the politics of the country. They should keep their fucken religion at bay and don't try to exacerbated the already rampant nepotism by giving the job only to our Muslims fellowmen/women.

Other than that I don't see why not. If we let the Israeli have strawberry & flower farms and the Turks bringing their expertise in the fields of textiles and the Chinese have all kind of business Why not the Egyptians?.

There is a fine line that we are crossing. On one side of the coin we are harboring paranoia and contempt to Muslim by discriminating against Egyptians and on the other side of the coin we are advertizing to the whole world - Ethiopia is the seat of Africa Unity and the symbol of Free Africa

This kind of dirty politic does not seat well with me.

If we let Israelis or Indians do business in our country why not the Egyptians or the Saudis? As long as they are not a threat to our national security and they don't interfere in our internal strife.

If we show too much antagonism towards the Egyptians - We are doing them a favor. For a very long time Egypt wanted to play the host for those major International organization and wanted the Africa Unity in their beautiful city of Alexandria. So if Egypt withdraw from this Africa Unity - we will be seeing a domino theory being applied- all North African nations and the Muslim nations in Africa will side with the Egyptians. And god forbid we don't want that to happen - Ethiopia will be losing her biggest prestige

Sometimes it is wise to write and think wisely instead of jumping to all kind of misinterpretations and allegations. Ethiopia is a land that both Christians and Muslims call home

A Century ago Africa was invaded by people who came with arms. Today it is quite different. Neocolonialism has capital as its weapon.
China has opened the way. The aged West has become a spectator after it failed to work with Africans. It wanted to have its way all the time, and it wanted to be always the master, with no tact or decorum. The West never wanted to teach Africans to catch a fish by themselves. It wanted to have them as children that will never grow up, to be in bondage of eternal dependence on the West.
The new comers China, India, Egypt, Turkey etc. come with cash with the aim to take back much more money. Nobody gives anything for nothing. This is the unsurpassed law of capitalism, because it is not Christianity.
Today’s neocolonialism is refined, subtle and difficult to see its true face. It is more palatable than that of the previous invasion by the West. It says I will give you something (infrastructures) and you give me back something else I need. I scratch your back and you scratch mine. I invest in your economy and I want my dividend. What is more logical, at its face value?
Nevertheless, what I do not like, as much as Turkey and Egypt are concerned is that, being Moslem countries, I doubt how much their business enterprises are free and clean, with no undercover plans for religious indoctrination or Islamization of secular Ethiopia. Especially concerning Egypt, it is a long time enemy, which naturally will not be a good friend over night. Therefore, Ethiopian government should not see only the cheese, but it should also be able to see the trap. It is another matter if the regime wants to be intentionally blind.
Ultimately, we are before a new phenomenon. Ethiopia cannot close its doors and forget the world by which she was once forgotten. Also, it should not be a country with rulers who are not ready to protect her interests. Having witnessed so many betrayals, as much defending the national interest of Ethiopia by the incumbent government is concerned, one cannot help but worry that Ethiopians might find themselves again before a new surprise and a big disappointment.
This is a message to the regime that Ethiopians are scrutinizing closely its actions and it better act responsibly and with a patriotic feeling and not with a narrow self interest.

The Egyptian cable manufacturing firm, is to supply three generators each with 40wm generation capacity to the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation
These generators, planned to be erected in Sebeta, Geferssa and Mekanisa areas -where the power company has substations transmitting power to the capital - will be brought to EEPCo through leasing. These substations were also preferred among seven sites for their capacity in carrying more watts to be generated from the generators!

Their lease and operation cost will be financed through a loan EEPCo will secure from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

When nazret.com posted the article of Saudis leasing lands in ethiopia to do farming then I voiced my opinion; But today the article is about egyptians creating cable company which is not the same as farming.. And any industrial factory by anyone is a blessing to the people of Ethiopia. First of all, who are you guys to decide on the fate of 55% muslims of Ethiopia? Egypt can and must invest. The security of Egypt and Ethiopia is one and the same. Reality, egypt did not introduce Chrsitianity to Ethiopia, as a symbol yes there were some egyptian priests who used to come to Ethiopia.

Reality, it took me about fifteen minutes to reply those and by the way I am a professional, the only person I deal with is the boss of the organization I work for. I do not have "customers", just because you are busy with "customers" you think everyone had to deal with "customers"? :D
